When did your child grow out of dinosaurs?

I'm wondering at what age children grow out of dinosaurs? I'm sure this varies entirely depending on the child in question, but parents who have had children (mine is a son) who have been really into dinosaurs, and dinosaur clothing, etc... at what age did yours grow out of this phase?

My 10 year old is still obsessed, but I blame his 30ish teacher who is also obsessed.

grassisjeweled · 14/02/2021 00:41

6 years old

HexWitch · 14/02/2021 00:44

Never. DS is 20 and they're still one of his major obsessions.

Lastbonestanding · 14/02/2021 00:49

Mine started at 2 and is still going strong at 11. I don't think he will grow out of it. Dinosaurs are interesting.

idontlikealdi · 14/02/2021 00:55

Dts are 10 and show no signs of it, they genuinely love dinosaurs m. What's the problem?

DavidsSchitt · 14/02/2021 01:03

Erm, I'll ask them in the morning. Why? Have you grown out of dinosaurs OP? Does it matter?

JeffreyJefferson · 14/02/2021 01:05

She never did. She’s now a palaeontologist and the most knowledgeable person I know Smile

TaraR2020 · 14/02/2021 01:07

Tbf I still have a soft-spot for dinosaurs!

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 14/02/2021 01:08

Yip, 17 year old here. Off to study dead and buried things and hoping to find a complete parasaurolophus skeleton.

I blame Tyranasaurus Drip.

Stompythedinosaur · 14/02/2021 01:21

Dd1 is nearly 10 and still keen. I'm 40 and I quite like them too.

BestZebbie · 14/02/2021 01:29

Fanatical at 3, over them by 6. Shame, as I’m 39 and still rather like them!

Wallabyone · 14/02/2021 01:31

My 8 year old still finds them interesting - so do I!

TLKlover · 14/02/2021 01:37

My 13 year old is still very much into it, I've got tbh..I still quite like them aged 37.

My 13 year old in year 6 was told by her teacher she was the probably the expert in dinosaurs in the class, as in she knew more than him :)

I thought that was lovely tbh that they appreciated her passion & made it into a good thing for her.

TaraR2020 · 14/02/2021 01:39

Did you all hear about that 3yo girl who found a complete fossilised footprint - with toes- while out walking along the jurassic coast last month?

Palaeontologists are very excited about it Grin

NovemberR · 14/02/2021 01:41

I guess he was less obsessed by them by about Y8. It had probably been pointed out to him he was nerdy by Y7. He didn't really care...but he gradually grew out out them as a major interest.

He works with jet and fighter engines now.😁

fairydustandpixies · 14/02/2021 01:42

My best mate is still obsessed and she's in her 60s.

Kanaloa · 14/02/2021 01:48

Judging by my husband it can last well into late 30s.

MrsH201 · 14/02/2021 10:09

Fantastic range of answers. Thank you. Absolutely no problem at all... I love it! And I’m learning so much, too. I was just curious. My son was very much into tractors when he was little, but it was a relatively short lived phase, so I wondered if this might be a similarity short lived phase. And particularly with clothing, whether there was an age at which wearing dinosaur print everything might suddenly be considered a bit baby-ish, I suppose.

DD1 is 20 and still obsessed. Her favourite item of clothing is a pair of dinosaur print dungarees.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 14/02/2021 10:17

Still loves them, but the love is maturing with her (she's nearly 8). It's widened into a general love of exploration.

EveryoneOutsideNow · 14/02/2021 10:20

I’m 34 and I’ve got a dinosaur T-shirt and dinosaur phone case.....

Sheleg · 14/02/2021 10:36

I still bloody love the things and I'm 40 next month.

britnay · 14/02/2021 10:42

Dinosaurs are pretty awesome! :D

DinosApple · 14/02/2021 10:55

DD1 (11 yr7) has just grown out of her black and gold dinosaur t-shirt and is a bit upset. Still has lots of books and still says she'd like to be a paleontologist or farmer.
Us adults in the house are into archaeology though so geeking about old stuff is normal. Dinosaurs are too old for me though.

WarriorN · 14/02/2021 11:00

@JeffreyJefferson

She never did. She’s now a palaeontologist and the most knowledgeable person I know Smile

Awesome!

How did she do it? Ds is absolutely determined to be a palaeontologist.
