Anyone have real nostalgia for 90s/early 00s sitcoms?

I'm talking the channel 4 (now I think 5?) things. Friends, Frasier, Everybody loves Raymond, King of Queens, will and grace. I know I know, so much of it has dated and I really roll my eyes at certain episodes but I also love the simplicity of life, hos it was family friendly and funny without constant weird sex scenes or black mirror type storylines. Plus the fact everyone would watch it at the same time.

What is the version of these types of shows these days? Maybe I'm also nostalgic for pre-Trump, pre-covid America and generally being young. 😂

New York, Seattle, even suburban New Jersey all seemed more desirable back then!

I love 90s shows and it’s totally my era, but don’t we have the same level of event TV now? Fleabag felt like a big deal a couple of years ago, with a new episode dropping every week. I’m not sure what the major American series would be since Big Bang and Modern Family wrapped up though - is Superstore big over there? I’ve see a few episodes and thought it was great. Schitt’s Creek is great as well, but perhaps not massive in the way friends and frasier were.

Fleabag isn't exactly family friendly! I miss the fact you could all watch it and only adults get certain jokes.

Just finished binging on King of Queens and now we're watching 3rd Rock from the Sun.

Omg I love that!

Also Seinfeld and Mash. Those were the good old days.

Drop The Dead Donkey is on catch up (Ch4)

Utterly wonderful !

GingerBeverage · 13/02/2021 20:35

Watching Seinfeld from the beginning and so many of their adventures wouldn't happen now we have mobile phones.
I love seeing the clothes, the hair, the outdated references. The comedy is still so sharp though.
The show that gave us "regifting" and "double dipping".

LunaHeather · 13/02/2021 20:36

I only have a soft spot for King of Queens because I saw it while being in NY for work.

I can't watch it here and it doesn't seem funny.

I think part of my nostalgia for old shows isn't real, it's just there's no comedy being made now that suits me. I loved Frasier, Black Books, even Not Going Out, which is dire now.

I keep thinking there must be good comedy out there but
I can't find it.

Two and Half Men used to be funny. Bertha was hysterical, bless her soul.

Oh, I did enjoy Emily in Paris.

GingerBeverage · 13/02/2021 20:36

Also Elaine is a feminist icon IMO. She held her own and never kept quiet.

I cannot spare a square! 😂

Soup Nazi would not be allowed now, though he is based on a real person.

Love Frasier. Yes the clothes and hair are dated but the humour is timeless - my favourite being the episode where Niles is getting ready, trying to iron trousers and winds up passing out and setting fire to them 🤣

Yes but..but...flour baby!

I'm re-watching my Frasier box set at the moment.

There are some fabulous laughs to be had. Genius lines and spot on comic timing.

ipswichwitch · 13/02/2021 20:39

And 3rd rock from the sun is brilliant

Or the ski lodge... “I’m not gay Guy!”

Wilsonwilson · 13/02/2021 20:41

I do, I love the golden girls, married with children, many more. So nice to watch. I don't really like frasier or Seinfeld tbh, they are OK but very affected.

FourTeaFallOut · 13/02/2021 20:41

Malcolm in the Middle fits the bill although I find myself feeling a much greater affinity with Lois now Grin

LegendDairy · 13/02/2021 20:42

Dharma and Greg is next on my watch list

Wilsonwilson · 13/02/2021 20:42

Anyone like Grace under fire or Caroline in the city?

BingBongToTheMoon · 13/02/2021 20:43

I loved The Nanny.

ipswichwitch · 13/02/2021 20:43

Yy to Malcolm in the Middle - recently watched with DS1 who loves it, so I feel I’ve done something right there!
