That sounds beyond dull. I definitely think your Internet is playing up. They're a naff idea at the best of times but via zoom, why?!

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 12/02/2021 21:47

Now is not the time for a baby shower. The poor pregnant woman. She should be in bed! (Or is that just pregnant me?)

Onlinedilema · 12/02/2021 21:48

Sit with a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates. Can you slyly go on mumsnet whilst smiling at your camera and nodding along.

Dogsarehairy · 12/02/2021 21:48

Stick your cardboard cutout in front of the camera and walk away

Nunoftheother · 12/02/2021 21:50

@Duggeehugs82

I would just think how crappy it is for the pregnant person who i would assume u like, im sure they would have prefered not doing it this way
It's not like baby showers are in any way obligatory. (Rather than, say, grabby, self-indulgent exercises in narcissism...)
Sue81 · 12/02/2021 21:51

Change your user name to reconnecting like that school kid did. They'll assume Internet issues and you can wander off and do whatever

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 12/02/2021 21:52

At least you are not a cat.

Annonymiss123 · 12/02/2021 21:52

A Zoom baby shower... What fresh hell is this??! 😱

HermitsLife · 12/02/2021 21:54

Can you not just put on a cat filter on and have a snooze on the sofa?

Indiaplain · 12/02/2021 21:55

Oh just leave but send a message in chat with an urgent excuse before you click the button.
I was in a zoom 40th birthday party last weekend. Was awful. The host asked if everyone wanted to go into breakout rooms to share funny stories about her! Luckily someone just said no.

Ginfordinner · 12/02/2021 21:55

Battery is about to go flat

Helloandhelloagain · 12/02/2021 21:56

Genuinely dodged every baby shower I’ve ever been invited too . I think they are a loads of bollocks. You need to stay very still pretend it’s frozen and leave!

hansgrueber · 12/02/2021 21:56

Is 'I don't want to do this, bye' too difficult? Are these things compulsory?

peak2021 · 12/02/2021 21:56

Why did you ever accept the invitation? Sorry no sympathy for the OP. No is a complete sentence.

doctorhamster · 12/02/2021 21:56

Oh god. Throw yourself down the stairs op, it'd be less painful and the trip to a&e would provide the perfect excuse.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 12/02/2021 21:57

@TinySongstress

I knew Zoom would end up being used for evil.
That made me laugh, quite a lot. Grin
BlowDryRat · 12/02/2021 21:57

I threw a Zoom baby shower last year. I thought it was rather good Blush

TheMandalorian · 12/02/2021 21:58

Well there's nothing stopping you doing a sudoku or jigsaw off screen. Add a kitten filter to your face too.

Duggeehugs82 · 12/02/2021 22:00

Nunodtheother
To be fair i agreeand i had one with first baby but insisted on no gifts which everyone thankfully agreed and they came round for afternoon tea and it was like last get together of closest friends before craziness of motherhood, which i forgot thats not always case.

Oh my god 😂
Duggeehugs82 · 12/02/2021 22:02

I would also say u dont have to accept the invitation if they r that terrible u politely say no thank u

goodwinter · 12/02/2021 22:04

You serious or just playing naive? Would you honestly just say "I don't want to do this, bye" to your friend who was having a baby shower / birthday celebration etc?
CaveMum · 12/02/2021 22:04

You need to start talking then go silent but keep your lips moving. A few jerky movements followed by switching your video off then “disappearing” before sending an apologetic Emil to the host/mum be saying your broadband connection keeps cutting out.

FinalSongbird · 12/02/2021 22:06

Put the cat on.... they'll think it's an ironic filter.
