It’s stunning isn’t it? It’s in Middlesbrough though.
Location location location, right? But it’s so pretty and large! Not sure how to make link “clicky”

@thebear1 thanks for the local perspective. That’s what I thought.

What is wrong with Middlesborough?

ArcheryAnnie · 10/02/2021 22:24

Ye gods, it's very reasonably=priced! And beautiful.

whattodo2019 · 10/02/2021 22:25

@Chipsahoy

There is a toilet on the ground floor also, it’s in the utility. It’s so our taste, the cold comment definitely helps put me off.

Seems to be a normal price for the area.
We are moving north but had decided somewhere in a village, semi rural. Definitely not a fan of Middlesbrough. But this house!

gorgeous house. Go for it!
Chipsahoy · 10/02/2021 22:25

That’s stunning @BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz but very top budget is 400k

FannytheW0nderDog · 10/02/2021 22:26

Lord above that price would buy you an average two bed house in here in Cambridge or a 1 bed flat in London. It's stunning!

Babyroobs · 10/02/2021 22:26

It is gorgeous.

PolarnOPirate · 10/02/2021 22:31

Soooo pretty! I love fireplaces in bedrooms and those lovely big bedrooms.

I know nothing about Middlesbrough but I gather from this thread it’s not the best. Besides, the house is a terrace!! There’s no point splashing out on a fancy house only to have neighbour noise from both sides.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/02/2021 22:32

@Carryingon

What is wrong with Middlesborough?
It's not intrinsically "bad" but it has the second lowest life expectancy for women, and the 9th highest suicide rate in the country. It apparently has the greatest level of deprivation in England.

Crime, ASB and unemployment are some of the highest in the country.

My own town is very very similar. And I wouldn't recommend it to people looking to move into an area based solely on cost of houses and how pretty the street looks.

Living within an area like Middlesbrough, as I have said, I'm in a place very very similar, it's easy to see what's good and what's not good and make amends for that by it being "home".

But some people will see the house prices and the streets and potentially not know what an area is really like.

Milomonster · 10/02/2021 22:34

Drooling. I can’t get over what you can get for 300k outside of London. It’s gorgeous.

AKissAndASmile · 10/02/2021 22:36

Oh my god....I fucking love it! Envy

Wendyhause · 10/02/2021 22:40

That house has some sitting tenants.

" well stocked boarders!"

Shock

Sorry I couldn't help notice as I read through the the description blurb.

Toorapid · 10/02/2021 22:40

I always wonder whether people in big houses in cheap areas are "rich"? That makes no sense, I'll try to explain. Here, you need that much money to buy a three bed ex council terrace. They're lived in by people in fairly ordinary jobs, nurses etc.

Nurses are on a national pay scale (?) so does that mean nurses in Middlesborough are living in mansions?

icedancerlenny · 10/02/2021 22:42

I lived in Boro for a very short period. Short for a reason. It’s not a nice place to be.

CoronaIsWatching · 10/02/2021 22:43

Not a fan. Too big.

Figgygal · 10/02/2021 22:43

Mid terrace might be a big downside
Yes agree with others it might be difficult to heat

CoronaIsWatching · 10/02/2021 22:44

Ugh. It's not because it's outside of London, it's because it's in Middlesborough. I;m "up north" and you wouldn't get much more than a 2 bed terrace in my area for £300k
katienana · 10/02/2021 22:46

I grew up in Middlesbrough, live in Newcastle now.
The house is quite close to the centre. It's in the best location within walking distance to town. When I was growing up friends who lived there were quite middle class, parents were professionals or business owners.
There are suburbs which are nicer such as Marton, Nunthorpe, parts of Acklam.
Further out there are market towns and villages like Yarm, Guisborough, Great Ayton, Stokesley and the surrounding areas so you can be rural but still near shops and pubs.
300k is relatively expensive for Middlesbrough but wouldn't stretch as far in every postcode by any means. 400k is a really healthy budget in the North East so I'm sure you'll find summat.

clary · 10/02/2021 22:48

It's lovely op and I would go for it on the strength of that staircase alone!

But but but it's in Middlesbrough. Polluted, grim, under resourced, not pretty. I used to live in Whitby and if I ever went back there (I wouldn't but I didn't have a good time in Whitby) I might prefer a biggish town like Stokesley or Northallerton or even Durham if you're heading that way. Bet Durham is ££££ tho.

To those saying you couldn't buy a flat fir that in London -you do know that there are large houses for sale for £300,000 in lots of parts of the UK? Some much nicer than Boro!

clary · 10/02/2021 22:50

Meant to say apologies to those who live in Middlesbrough!

Cheap places are cheap for a reason. I'm from south Lincs and houses are very cheap there too. hmm wonder why!

ComeONBridget · 10/02/2021 23:01

Oh my flipping god. How much house for so little money...!

I need to move.

SaltyTootsieToes · 10/02/2021 23:01

Stunning! Cannot believe the price! In my area that would be a few million.

FlamedToACrisp · 10/02/2021 23:04

Sure you wouldn't prefer the Isle of Wight, OP? We're lovely and warm down here most of the year. How about a gorgeous 5 bedroom cottage?

Thisbastardcomputer · 10/02/2021 23:15

The people in the north east are lovely, chatty and friendly, we used to visit Hartlepool quite often and I got to know some wonderful people

RevolutionRadio · 10/02/2021 23:15

It's quite a nice part of Middlesbrough, I'm always surprised by how much houses are elsewhere. I often wonder if my house was down south what it would be worth!
