Recommend me books for a 2yo

We love anything by Judith Kerr, Shirley Hughes, Jill Murphy, the Albie books and he's currently obsessed with the Mole books and Beatrix Potter (which are a lot darker than I had realised!). Can anyone recommend some more lovely story books? Anything with animals or dinosaurs goes down well!

Thank you for any recommendations!

Jill Murphy's Large Family and Judith Kerr's Mog books are lovely for that age group - nice gentle stories with likeable characters

TheRaccoons · 08/02/2021 20:26

Mr Big

Meg and Mog

Any of the Janet and Allan Ahlberg ones

Duck in the Truck and other Duck ones

Nick Sharratt ones, like Goat Goes to
Playgroup and Chocolate Mousse for Greedy Goose - also the You Choose ones are ace

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 08/02/2021 20:27

Julia Donaldson might be another one to try - The Gruffalo, A Squash and a Squeeze, Room on the Broom all come to mind as ones my two liked at that age.

And Each Peach Pear Plum and The Giant Jam Sandwich

Oooh also - ones like Dear Zoo and other Rod Campbell ones

Kitchen Disco

Very Hungry Caterpillar

TheRaccoons · 08/02/2021 20:32

My kids also love Stanley’s Cafe - Stanley is a hamster who has other jobs in other books Grin but those are lovely stories too

Custardslice3 · 08/02/2021 20:33

The Hairy Maclary books were winners here at that age and beyond - and really fun to read as an adult too.

sparklingstars12 · 08/02/2021 20:34

Peck peck peck
The squirrels that squabbled
Snail and the whale
Not a story book but the look inside series are great, my 2 year old will spend half and hour sat with one opening all the flaps and talking about the pictures.

Oh, lovely recommendations, thank you! The postman will be busy over the next couple of weeks! Keep them coming, and thank you!

We also like the Stanley books!
Plus Tiny T-Rex
Books by Jon Klassen
There's a series of biographies for children called Little People, Big Dreams which I love too

BertieBotts · 08/02/2021 21:33

My 2yo loves currently

We're going on a bear hunt
Pants
You Choose
The Biggest Bed in the World

Moonflower12 · 08/02/2021 21:36

We're going on a Bear Hunt.
Hairy McClary
Slinky Malinki. I love these. My children at school love these.

Mol1628 · 08/02/2021 21:36

Wibbly pig series
Fred series

CoodleMoodle · 08/02/2021 21:41

Hairy MacClary
Kipper
Mr Men (some are quite tedious, though!)
Meg, Mog & Owl
Julia Donaldson (fave is Superworm)

All went down well with my DD when she was 2, and DS who is 2.5! We also have a lot of tie-in books - Peppa Pig, Hey Duggee, etc. And both of my DC enjoy look and find type books, those are great fun and it's lovely to chat about what else they can see in the pictures and so on. Some even have stories, but those are more for the older ones, I think.

FoxInSocks2 · 08/02/2021 21:42

Aliens have underpants
Kipper
Percy the park keeper

strawbmilk · 08/02/2021 21:48

Oi Frog series

missrabbitismyhero · 08/02/2021 21:48

My daughter is 2.5yo and likes the Elmer books.
All the Julia Donaldsons
Each Peach Pear Plum
Owl Babies
Please Baby Please

Raindropsonrosesand · 08/02/2021 22:37

Bear on a bike is really beautiful, and was a favourite here

pumpkinbump · 08/02/2021 22:38

My daughter loves Rabbits Nap

TheRaccoons · 08/02/2021 22:43

Some of the Dr Seuss ones are good for that age too!

I agree about the Mr Men ones - I do like some of them but some are tedious. There’s generally a wizard, some marmalade or a giant in each one Grin but we had Mr Bump the other night and they enjoyed it.

DD is 3 and currently really enjoying having us read the Topsy and Tim books I had as a child - I’m an 80s baby but I think some were from the 70s. She loves one where Tim refuses to wear his wellies and steps in a puddle while being smug that he can run faster than Topsy.

I really miss charity shops for books - I got hundreds of them in there. Best bargain was an immaculate copy of The Jolly Postman with all the lovely letters inside for 20p

ohdearthehouseisburningdown · 08/02/2021 22:44

Oliver Jeffers books have lovely illustrations

SansaForTheIronThrone · 08/02/2021 22:54

Giles Andrea books are lovely, great pictures and lots are animal based. Rumble in the Jungle, Commotion in the Ocean, Giraffes can't dance, all very popular here. Julia Donaldson lift the flap books. We love the Supertato books by Sue Hendra as well as she does some other really funny ones too. There is a lovely range of say hello to the animals books, that include all sorts of animals and there is one on dinosaurs too, we have picked them up quite cheaply from the Book people, often in the 10 for £10 selection. Absolutely love children's books!

MonkeyPuddle · 08/02/2021 23:02

The ‘10 little....’ series is a big hit in our house

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/02/2021 23:05

I came to say Kipper books as well, always a favourite with my two, especially Kipper's snowy day.

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/02/2021 23:07

Harry and his bucketful of dinosaurs
