If you just disappeared, what would you do and where would you go?

And is your answer just off the top of your head now, or have you thought about it before?

Over December and January I kept getting glimpses of a woman starting a new life. I started writing it down, in great detail, and wrote it in the first person.

@leavingtime sounds wonderful!!

Rome! I'd take a small apartment with a balcony in a quiet residential area. I'd go out early and buy lovely food from my local market, before writing my novel for the rest of the morning. After a lunch of salami, cheese, tomatoes and, fresh bread, I'd have a little siesta. In the late afternoon I'd go for a walk by the Tiber before supper in a friendly local restaurant and I'd then sit on my balcony with a glass of wine watching the swifts swoop and night fall.

Something to think about .......

Mines already waiting for me.
Glass fronted house facing the sea with bedroom balcony upstairs and bifold doors downstairs. Contains the biggest and best bed, bath and hot tub. This is situated on an unpopulated Scottish island containing 12 basset hounds, high speed broadband and Amazon / M&S / decent Indian takeaway deliveries.
It only exists in my head but I visit it often.
If it must be a real place I want Portmerrion village to myself and the hounds, bed, bath etc

@leavingtime

I'd buy a small stone cottage with a large garden in Devon, within walking distance of the sea.

I'd buy a small dog, go for lots of country and beach walks and plant fruit trees in the garden.

I'd also have a woodland area and a wildflower meadow area. I would read lots of books and take lots of photographs.

I'd buy organic food from local farm shops produced by local people.

Pretty much this, however I'd go to the Isle of Wight

London! Easy to disappear there with there being so many people!

It's perishing cold here in Lancashire and reading this thread has really cheered me up.
I'd love somewhere warm.
A static caravan with central heating and double glazing for when it's colder in winter, my own patch of garden and a footpath down to the sea.
I'd read, do crossword puzzles and jigsaws, knit, garden and take long walks along the coast.

When I was going through a breakup with a live in boyfriend, the weekend he was due to move out I decided I didn’t want to be around and I just booked a plane ticket to wherever was cheapest on skyscanner. I ended up in Oslo and had a wonderful weekend eating amazing food and walking in the snow and going to museums. Obviously spent some of it crying on the hotel room floor listening to Adele as well, but somehow it felt like a really purifying experience. So if I was going through some emotional turmoil and needed an adventure I’d probably do a similar sort of thing and see where the universe takes me!

colouringindoors · 14/02/2021 13:53

riotlady that sounds brilliant! (apart from the crying obv)

gabsdot45 · 14/02/2021 14:57

I'd go to London, I'd live in a small, but beautiful flat somewhere nice, like Kensington. I'd go to lots of plays, concerts, museums and cultural things.
I'd have a job that I could do at home but only part time.
There would be a little cafe nearby where I would eat and be mysterious.
There would be a nice park nearby for walking and a swimming pool in my building.
I'd spend 3 months of the year somewhere warm, Madeira maybe or the Italian lakes.
I need to win the lottery first.

3dogdnorth · 14/02/2021 15:11

@leavingtime you must be my soul sister! That's my dream (not that I've been to Devon) and I'd have my 2 dogs with me too

Dickorydockwhatthe · 14/02/2021 15:16

I've always imagined myself working in a little cosy tea shop in a cornish village over looking the sea.

Legal name change
TEFL
Decide whether to teach English in Asia, South America or Africa having saved up cash, but counted and load a few pre paid visas with money so I wouldn’t need my bank account

Createsuser · 14/02/2021 15:19

Bitcoin not but counted Hmm

lightand · 14/02/2021 15:22

I know someone who vanished.
She secretly applied and got a job as a housekeeper for a live in job for an elderly man. She could keep herself well hidden.
If I remember correctly, she made it known where she was, about 1 year after she had disappeared.

Whattheduck · 14/02/2021 16:14

Ireland
I’d have a small house in Kenmare and go for lovely walks/read lots of books/eat lovely soda bread and homemade soups/go riding on the beach and just enjoy the wonderful scenery and peace and quiet
That’s my dream for when I retire
