Suggest me a hobby?

I need a hobby. Something for myself all I do is cook and clean and manage the housework. I'm going slightly crazy with nothing else to do.

I'm not massively crafty but am open to any suggestions. I can knit but i struggle to find the patience to actually finish anything.

Lego.
I am an AFOL (adult fan of Lego).
There is lots of us. We're a thing.....join us.....!
(Seriously it's great fun. This weekend I am attempting to build some cute animals)

Photography. It's quite technical when you get past auto but it's also creative. You can do it almost anywhere and at almost any time.

Sewing
Embroidery
Colouring
Drawing
Running
Cycling

Metal Clay - make your own silver jewellery - it's easy , google for info
Sculpting - easy using air dry clay
Gardening - start sowing seeds in trays, by summer you'll have flowers and / or vegetables
Creative writing
Crochet - lots of free tutorials on youtube
Paper cutting - I've seen some amazing creations
Weaving - start small with a home made loom (not hard to make) - google ideas
Needlefelting - make cute animals from old wool - lots on youtube

Re knitting, have another go with something small like a simple pair of wristwarmers/ fingerless gloves. If you finish one you are spurred on to start the next. Before you know it you have a pair. Then try the matching bobble hat. :) I started knitting again after 35 years - I'm making progress and find it really helps to have something occupying my hands in the evenings watching telly.

I m useless with crafts/drawing etc - I can’t even draw a stick man properly.

I’ve been doing paint by numbers and diamond painting for a few months, which I’m enjoying.

I’m woeful at it but really enjoy it

Crochet, I can’t knit but crochet seems a lot easier and can make things quickly.

My main hobby is family history. Love a bit of detective work and finding out people’s stories.

Techway · 06/02/2021 15:21

I would like to start art/drawing, anyone suggest where to start? Supplies, tutorials etc.

alwaysbethepigeon · 06/02/2021 16:34

There are some awesome ideas here Thankyou.

I have been thinking about writing. I love to read and would like to have a crack at a short story or something.

I have been doing my family tree but I've hit a brick wall and I've stopped for now.

Netflix Documentaries on 4od Walking Yoga Books
I've exhausted Netflix and 4od.

I have given a thought to yoga though but there's not much space in my house to do it.

Writing the story of my life sounds interesting that might be something I actually do. It could be something to hand down to my kids.

My eldest is Lego crazy. I don't think they would be happy with a competitor!

Sewing plus an audio book is my idea of heaven. There's loads of advice for beginners online and in books. The results are faster than knitting and I like the added benefit of gorgeous, well fitting clothes to wear. I am sewing through lockdown and I can definitely tell the difference in my mental state if I just watch TV in the evenings instead. I spent a couple of hours this afternoon sewing a romper for my toddler and it is unbelievably cute and I'm a bit calmer.

brewingno2 · 06/02/2021 17:56

I started doing diamond dots. It's like an adult paint by number but with gems instead. Can get them from hobby craft or amazon! Really fun and you can buy artists like Klimt and famous one or just pretty pictures

Leah2005 · 06/02/2021 17:56

If you can lie down flat on a floor somewhere you have enough space to do yoga.

Ilovemaisie · 06/02/2021 17:59

alwaysbethepigeon I let you off being an AFOL then as your have a future one in your home already Grin

@Ilovemaisie I love Lego! I tend to buy the biggish sets (Harry Potter and stranger things etc.) but I have no where in my house to display them now. Do you buy sets or do you buy just Lego and make what you want? What would be the best way to build and enjoy Lego and not cost a fortune? Unfortunately I'm not very creative so would need instructions Blush

Ilovemaisie · 06/02/2021 19:36

1stimeboymum I tend to go for smaller sets - ones usually under the £30 price range which I mostly buy from Argos, B+M, Supermarkets etc (they are good for special offers). I usually stick with a mix of City, Friends, Creator 3 in 1 and the Classic boxes of mixed pieces. I either build the set following the plan or just go for it and build completely random things that make no sense whatever. Latest build is a sort of lorry/train caterpillar thing with giant eyes and a flame sticking out of his head.
I just have fun.
