Here is a little story...

2 years ago DH and I bought a puzzle. It was of a place that has some lovely memories for us and also is in the same colours as our new kitchen. So we thought it would be nice to do it then frame it.

We started it but then life got in the way.

A couple of months ago we had some free evenings so decided to try and finish it. In a couple of nights we were down to the last few bits to do. One night we finished it - well, almost. As I reached to get the last piece I found to my horror that it wasnt there.

The puzzle has not been moved. So i contacted the manufacturer who offered a free replacement if your puzzle is incomplete. However, they were out of stock.

As I began my descent into madness I started to look on ebay and found they go for more than they were new. But I was determined. Eventually I got one for a reasonable price.

Today, with the baby asleep in her sling, I started going through the box for the missing piece.

I've been through it twice. No pieces fit.

Oh my god.

I love the picture, and it’s even better with the missing piece, it will make a great talking point Grin

ApolloandDaphne · 05/02/2021 17:35

That's a lovely jigsaw. I wonder if the picture is by the same person who did the picture on my last jigsaw

And then she lost her mind
bruffin · 05/02/2021 17:41

My dm found a missing piece of her puzzle in the christmas decoration box a year later.

OhToBeASeahorse · 05/02/2021 17:44

@ApolloandDaphne yea same artist (I know because I trawled Ebay!)

What a lovely jigsaw. I’d paint the gap white?

NinaLanita · 05/02/2021 17:49

I was about to say the same. I know how utterly gutting it is to get to the end of a jigsaw puzzle and for there to be no last bit BUT.... I would frame it as is and accept that it was a metaphorical sign that although life never feels complete, it can still be beautiful.

Love this x

RandomMess · 05/02/2021 17:56

I Agree with frame with gap.

Has happens to me with a brand new jigsaw too 🤬

OhToBeASeahorse · 05/02/2021 17:57

It's so annoying! And clearly it happens quite a loy because they have a policy about it!

I just think that's really cheeky- isnt it like buying a pair of shoes and only getting one!?

It is obviously a UFO. Embrace it Grin

WingingItSince1973 · 05/02/2021 18:03

I love that puzzle! Agree with other posters about framing as it is. Blinking annoying for you though but has a good story to it now xx

IloveZoflora · 05/02/2021 18:15

When my mum was going through cancer treatment my dad did a puzzle in the waiting room at the hospital... only he took several pieces home in his pocket so that he could be the one to put the last pieces in 🤣. I was worried they might throw the puzzle away in between the fortnightly visits but no they didn't and he was able to place the last few pieces and be the one who completed it!!
I would have been annoyed if I was also completing it on a regular basis

Originalyellowbelly · 05/02/2021 18:22

I once bought a jigsaw, brand new, and when I finished it there was a piece left over. It didn't match the picture so I assume someone else's puzzle was missing a piece. it wasn't white

OhToBeASeahorse · 05/02/2021 18:43

@IloveZoflora I love that

Who is the artist? It reminds me of a picture my mum used to own called ''ms scarlet wore pink' or something similar

lemondust · 05/02/2021 20:01

Ms Carter wore pink!! That's i!

Mumdiva99 · 05/02/2021 20:05

I agree with the frame it incomplete answers. Just write 2020/1 in the gap.

@NoProblem123 glad to know my kids aren't the only ones....

OhToBeASeahorse · 05/02/2021 20:43

@lemondust Michael Storring I think

OP ask on this thread jigsaw thread someone there might have advice.

redthefraggle · 05/02/2021 20:59

I know I shouldn't be laughing at this but I am 😁.

I too would frame it but I'd also write some random message on the back that looked like a code for humanity with the key being where the missing piece is. Then date it 2020, just to screw with the future 😉😁

TheVolturi · 05/02/2021 21:13

It's obviously a spaceship!

GooodMythicalMorning · 06/02/2021 10:40

Is frame it as it is too. Annoying when things like that happen though

OliveHenry · 06/02/2021 10:48

I'm currently doing a Michael Storring jigsaw of Paris.

It's driving me crackers (so many windows!) so if there's a piece missing I'll be mightily unimpressed! Grin

LittleBearPad · 06/02/2021 10:55

You’re going to have to do the other puzzle OP and try to ignore the feeling of possible doom that puzzle 2 will also have a missing piece.

Lovely picture!

justanotherneighinparadise · 06/02/2021 11:03

Now you have a second jigsaw you can fashion a replacement piece using the same white tone as the sky. I’d consider that a project in its own right!

ASnowman · 06/02/2021 11:18

I once kept a kid's jigsaw with a missing piece for 4 years hoping to find it. One week after I binned it I found the piece wedged under the skirting board.
Our latest puzzle has a missing piece and a double of one piece. Confused
