I don't usually get this - but fancied a change from usual generic Aldi brand.

ta very much. Brew

Mind you, having lived in many places, at least I don;t have to drink Liptons Envy

Wtf is it with Liptons, that they seem to have got market dominance overseas?
The worst is when you're solemnly brought a box full of 'teas' - mostly herbal, and then the dreaded yellow sachets. If you're very lucky though it might be Twinings. But it makes no odds, when you've just got a cup of nowhere near boiling water to infuse it, and like as lot a little tub of 'half and half' instead of milk.

As to Tetleys... urgh, rather the beer than the tea. It's one of the few brands DH (our shopper) is instructed not to buy.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 04/02/2021 15:54

Lancashire Tea is nice and strong. Twinings has gone off the boil a bit....
Sainsbury's Gold Label bags are decent, as is one of the Clipper types. I like Clipper because they don't use plastic in their teabags so they're actually biodegradable.

LadyHonoriaDedlock · 04/02/2021 15:57

I used to work in the tea industry (really) and don't know what the fuss is about with Yorkshire tea. Clipper organic all the way in this (Yorkshire) house!

and it is invariable sold as English tea, while showing a picture of someone holding a glass mug, with clear, milk less light brown liquid in, and the tea bag hanging over the side.

Anything less like English Tea I have rarely seen

IcedLimes · 04/02/2021 18:19

This thread has made me fancy a cuppa. I usually drink Yorkshire Red but going to try Clipper if someone who worked in the tea industry thinks it's good.

I suspect Lipton's is what Douglas Adams had in mind in the description of the beverage Arthur Dent obtains from the Nutrimatic Drinks Dispenser on the Heart of Gold: "something "almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea"

jobbyjg · 04/02/2021 18:22

I love the Yorkshire biscuit blend only buy as a special treat as I think it has plastic in the teabags

visitorfromtheplanetzog · 04/02/2021 18:22

I like Tetleys so I've never bothered trying Yorkshire. Perhaps I will when it's on offer some time.

Can't get on with Sainsburys Red Label - too much tannin for my liking.

buckeejit · 04/02/2021 18:25

Ah you poor people have obviously never had punjana. It's the biz. Yorkshire is alright but it's no punjana.

Jemimapuddleduk · 04/02/2021 18:27

It’s the only acceptable tea. Their biscuit brew and toast and jam blends are also worth a try ☺️

Cooloncraze · 04/02/2021 18:29

Used to like Yorkshire Gold then discovered Dorset Tea and have literally become a tea addict. It’s so so so good- would never drink anything else now.

IcedLimes · 04/02/2021 18:29

As well as drinking tea the normal way, I make my own version of iced tea. I put 3 tea bags in a large jug of water for ten minutes, then add a bit of sugar free squash. Don't knock it til you've tried it, it's the most refreshing drink known to man, when chilled in the fridge. The refreshment of cold squash teamed with the tea urge quenching of tea. Perfect

AgeLikeWine · 04/02/2021 18:39

I also prefer standard Yorkshire to Gold. When brewed for the full 5 minutes, it’s stronger and more tannic, which is exactly what you want from a mug of proper tea.

Yes. I mean, sometimes you might not want a tannic tea, but then surely you should choose a green one rather than any sort of black? (The only 'sometimes' that springs to mind is with Chinese or Japanese food but there's nowt so queer as folk so perhaps some people want it more often)
IcedLimes · 04/02/2021 18:43

Yes I've read that Gold is milder, which probably wouldn't hit the mark for me.

GuyFawkesDay · 04/02/2021 18:47

It's nice but we've moved to clipper tea cos they're bags are compostable

BluTangClan · 04/02/2021 18:51

I keep trying Yorkshire (I find it too redbushy), but always go back to Sainsbury's red label. I accidentally put 2 bags in one cup the other day, it was surprised how different the taste was. It was delicious.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 04/02/2021 18:58

Morrison's organic tea is lovely, I much prefer that.

Bearfrills · 04/02/2021 19:16

Everyone knows that Ringtons tea is the best tea.

leafygarden42 · 04/02/2021 19:32

Wow - thanks everyone - have just come back from work and caught up with this thread. So many different new teas to try! I do like a strong brew...
I can't say I've ever rated PG tips or Tetley that highly - they're okay - but (to me) no better than a bog standard supermarket own brand.

M and S luxury gold tea. Deeeelicious. Slightly malty.

apricotdreams · 04/02/2021 21:45

Twinnings breakfast tea is the best. I always get it on offer. Yorkshire a close runner up Smile

burblish · 04/02/2021 22:19

Clipper all the way - either the organic or plain old normal. Yorkshire tea just tastes meh to me.
