If you might have covid and you only had £20 what would you buy in the shop??

My dB has been really poorly all weekend. He has booked a test for today. My DM can shop for him but they are all pretty skint at the moment. (I live over two hours away and am homeschooling as working so my brain is broken 😁). What would you put on the list for dm to get. I have:-
Paracetamol
Orange juice
Tomato soup
Milk (for tea)
Lucozade or similar
Bread

He doesn't like marmite or peanut butter bit everything else. But the caveat is that be can barely drag himself out of bed. He is quite an accomplished cook but doesn't feel like it at the moment.

Please jog my brain. Thank you 💖

Cheese, few tins of beans, both for on toast.

Swifey40 · 01/02/2021 12:09

Ah yes, brilliant, of course!! Protein, one of your five a day, fibre and dairy!! Thank you!!

Maybe a couple of ready meals so he can shove it in the microwave without thinking too hard about it? I think tesco or sainsbury have a 3 for £5 on some of theirs?

Shadow01 · 01/02/2021 12:13

Eggs? Easy and quick to cook.
Cuppa soups.

RJnomore1 · 01/02/2021 12:14

Microwave mash?

Swifey40 · 01/02/2021 12:15

Ah yes, perfect as well xx

Yogurt?

NewYearHere20 · 01/02/2021 12:20

If he likes them a tin or two of sardines, tins of tomato and pasta. Can make a meal out of those with very little effort. Maybe a box of eggs too?

HijadelaLuna · 01/02/2021 12:23

Oats and banana/apple/Dates/nuts

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 01/02/2021 12:23

Baking potatoes, cheese, beans, pasta

Avoid ready meals, they're shit and not filling and usually expensive.

davidsSchitt · 01/02/2021 12:26

Pot noodles and toast are all I want when I am poorly.

Get him some vitamin D too

crazylikechocolate · 01/02/2021 12:29

Cereal is an easy to make meal

Hazelnutlatteplease · 01/02/2021 12:30

Couscous. Add boiling water (+stockcube) and a lid, leave until water absorbed. Lovely with added tuna or other protein. Can also add frozen chopped pepper

Swifey40 · 01/02/2021 12:32

Thank you everyone 😊

Ask him before buying this!! I'd struggle to enjoy that on a good day Grin

Fruit and soups

Daisy829 · 01/02/2021 12:41

Porridge? Filling & cheap. Can add fruit to it.

KenAdams · 01/02/2021 12:42

Ready meals, ramen noodles, pasta in sauce, non prep fruit, in Aldi you can get packs of pulses in sauce to microwave, eggs, microwave rice, beans, cheese, bread, chocolate chip brioche, frozen prepped veg, deli meats, crisps.

CommanderBurnham · 01/02/2021 12:43

Not healthy but a five pack of chocolate bars. High calorie and pleasant to eat. And cheap.

LoisLanyard · 01/02/2021 12:45

Tinned soup, ready meals. Bread, beans, tinned spaghetti, fish fingers and chips, porridge, milk, tea, cartons of juice he can keep by his bedside. multi-vits. Paracetamol.
May not be the most balanced, nutritious of things, but if he can keep his fluid levels up and get some calories in then he is doing ok.

LoisLanyard · 01/02/2021 12:46

Ready brek or Quaker instant oats are nice and super easy to make with little energy or brain power required!

Toocold · 01/02/2021 12:51

Ice lollies in case of a sore mouth or throat, it will help with fluids.

Whatthebloodyell · 01/02/2021 12:55

When I feel poorly all I want to eat is Pringles and grapes!

yellowbeaker · 01/02/2021 12:58

I did a similar package for my sister a few weeks ago. I bought a few bottles of fizzy drinks as they all had sore throats. Some sweets. Bread, milk, beans, eggs, tinned peaches and custard. Some ice lollies/magnums. A few trashy magazines. Some chocolate and medicines.

titchy · 01/02/2021 12:59

As much lemsip as you can - only thing that kept me alive when I had Covid.
