If you might have covid and you only had £20 what would you buy in the shop??

My dB has been really poorly all weekend. He has booked a test for today. My DM can shop for him but they are all pretty skint at the moment. (I live over two hours away and am homeschooling as working so my brain is broken 😁). What would you put on the list for dm to get. I have:-
Paracetamol
Orange juice
Tomato soup
Milk (for tea)
Lucozade or similar
Bread

He doesn't like marmite or peanut butter bit everything else. But the caveat is that be can barely drag himself out of bed. He is quite an accomplished cook but doesn't feel like it at the moment.

Please jog my brain. Thank you 💖

Frozen fruit, berries or whatever is his favourite fruit. Easy to have a few bits/handful with yoghurt or cereal.

Tins of tuna/sardines etc, veg if he’ll eat tinned veg. Easy to use with pasta/ ready mashed potatoes.

Tinned or packet soups.

I tested positive on Saturday. I have bought some immune boosting vitamins, fruit, and Bath salts. I love crochet so am sat in bed with a basket full of yarn, satsumas and a craft magazine. Feeling ok so far xxx

Sorry just read the thread properly!! If he's not feeling upto eating maybe some protein shakes? Def some vitamins too xx

Pot noodles

SoMuchToBits · 01/02/2021 13:09

Soup. That's what I felt like having when I had Covid last week and didn't fancy much food.

QuantumQuality · 01/02/2021 13:12

If he can barely get out of bed he isn’t going to be having eggs and couscous. He needs stuff he can pile on the bed side table and nibble at when he feels up to it. So yes to lucozade and chocolate bars. Oat or nut bars. Dried fruit. Maybe some nuts if he isn’t coughing too much. Bananas.

PippaParsnip · 01/02/2021 13:14

Can he transfer funds to your mum to do the shopping? That way there wouldn't be a £20 limit so you wouldn't be trying to get stuff to 'fit' the budget

But to answer your question, I'd go for bananas, small easy peeler oranges, ritz crackers, cheese. Pots of pesto pasta salad.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 01/02/2021 13:15

Are you able to help by transferring some money to your mum? Then she could buy breakfast bars etc and fruit juice which are quite pricey.

I hope he feels better soon

Pulse oximeter!

SoMuchToBits · 01/02/2021 13:25

My GP lent me a pulse oximeter free of charge when I got Covid. Might be worth enquiring about that if your DB has Covid, especially if money is tight.

As mentioned before, Lemsip. Also, some tinned or frozen fruit in case he feels like something refreshing, which will obviously be good for him.

Hope he feels better soon.
