In the absence of massages...

What can I do to help my poor back and shoulders. My shoulders are so tense. I think home working from a dining table has made it worse than usual.

I'd normally book a back massage. Does anyone have an at-home solution that helps them?

Thanks!

I've been taking ibuprofen for mine.

Hot shower?
Heated pads/those microwaveable neck thingies like hot water bottles
Yoga/stretches

BejeweledCrocs · 01/02/2021 18:50

I think I will look at yoga stretches. Thanks x

Definitely yoga stretches. Yoga with Adriene has some specifically for neck pains

If you are in pain and have a chiropractor or osteopath they are still allowed to practice.

EternalOptimist7 · 01/02/2021 18:59

valentino could you post the link please? I really suffer with my neck & shoulders

SpeckledFrogsLog · 01/02/2021 18:59

Shiatsu neck and shoulder massager. It cost me £50 off Amazon and is a total game changer! I’ll never have to pay for a massage again!

DianaT1969 · 01/02/2021 19:15

Put a tennis ball between your back and a wall and roll it around. It works out the knots. Takes some practice to keep it in position, but worth it.

Same here. It was fairly cheap (about the cost of a half hour massage) and surprisingly effective.
BlueTimes · 01/02/2021 19:20

The one I have is similar to this one (my one is sold out and was cheaper) but they look pretty much the same time me.

A physiotherapist? I have the same problem and have been going every few weeks since July. She says she is seeing a lot of new people with back and shoulder issues.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 01/02/2021 19:26

Definitely yoga, but also you can't really work comfortably from a dining table and your work should be helping you with this. For example, my friends' work let them take their adjustable office chairs home and gave some cash towards any equipment - I know not every company is as enlightened but you are entitled to equipment to help you work safely.

TeeBee · 01/02/2021 19:31

Do you have someone at home that could help you? If so, try a massage gun.

MNnicknameforCVthreads · 01/02/2021 19:53

Osteopaths and chiropractors are operating.

I prefer osteo personally

Daisychainsandglitter · 01/02/2021 20:57

I also have a shiatsu neck and shoulder massager- absolute game changer!

Janaih · 01/02/2021 21:02

Foam rollers are great and voltarol gel will help.
I have worked at home for 15 years, the argos cheapo computer chair for around 40 quid is the best one I've had.

BejeweledCrocs · 01/02/2021 21:18

Oooh think I need a shiatsu gadget! And a proper chair!

Chiropractor has sorted me out!

Bettina500 · 02/02/2021 08:42

I also have one of those massagers, a different brand but same style. They're the closest you'll get to a real massage, much better than the usual handheld things.
Also look at Yoga by Adrienne on YouTube. She does a short back and shoulder routine that really helps.

Puppylucky · 02/02/2021 10:48

Yin yoga for me. It focuses on deep stretches held for a few minutes and gives me the same lovely floaty feeling as a good massage

redcandlelight · 02/02/2021 10:53

keep you back warm.
get up every hour and do stretches
if you can take phone calls standing up.

make sure your workstation is as good as it can be.

  • get separate mouse, keyboard, (monitor if you can)
  • make sure the monitor is high enough, top of monitor should be at eye height.
Blueroses99 · 02/02/2021 10:55

I’m able to still see my chiropractor. Much more effective than a massage for pain management.

GeidiPrimes · 02/02/2021 11:00

Back/shoulder massage gizmos are brilliant! I have an Invospar one.

The one linked by PP above is like mine. Definitely worth the money!
