"The curtains thing is because all the radiators are below windows so I don't want to heat the window in winter so I have blinds."

Shorter curtains? Growing up we just tucked the curtains behind the radiators - wasn't a great look.
I have blinds and hate them because they're so dirty and I leave them up all the time. The advice to use an old sock doesn't work. I'm too scared to tackle cleaning them.

"Meant to mention I wish I had a dishwasher because I hate washing up but it's not justified for one is it? "

My rental has a table top one. I still have some plates that don't get perfectly clean because the dirt gets dry as I don't put it on every week. I think it's justified in lockdown though, so many more meals at home.

"When I lived on the top floor, there was a small connecting door in my bedroom to the next door flat to be used as a fire escape and they had one to the next door house. I kept a chest in front of that one too. "

You blocked a fire exit!

A framed photo of Charles Grodin on my mantelpiece. At Christmas, he wears a Santa hat.

Spongeface · 31/01/2021 22:34

Loving this thread! It's like walking past peoples houses before it's quite dark and looking in.

I have nothing unusual I said to DP.... Except a dining room table in the living room that is actually a pool table. 'and Mr jones' he said... We have a soft toy seal that is called Mr Jones... He's very realistic. Apart from that tho I think that's it

Oldraver · 01/02/2021 10:58

We used to keep a ladder in the airing cupboard, it was the best clothes airer.

It got moved a while ago and the replacements are not anywhere near as good so OH has been given the task of bringing it back (it needs de rusting before it van be used)

In one holiday rental in my childhood, a windowless outbuilding did not have an ordinary door: instead, it had a metal barred gate, as often seen on side passages leading into a garden. Sometimes I sat in it, pretending I was in prison.

HeronLanyon · 01/02/2021 12:43

letsgomaths that image really made me laugh. What are we like, eh?

Letsgomaths · 01/02/2021 12:48

Indeed, there was nothing like just sitting in there with a book to get away from things. I think this outbuilding had a highly mundane purpose, such as housing dustbins. I asked my parents to buy a padlock so I could actually be locked in prison, but they refused!

Hm2020 · 01/02/2021 17:09

Let’s see some pics of the house bunny’s I had one when I was 14 that I rescued he used to run round with my 2 little dogs like a gang I miss him. Sad he seemed to potty train himself Hmm

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 01/02/2021 19:06

There's a giant inflatable dingy in the middle of my living room floor. (It's a sensory toy for my son who has ASD....)

Lndnmummy · 01/02/2021 19:23

Candles on at every meal. Even breakfast and quick cups of tea. No one sits at the table or on the sofa without candles on. Never.

TheChip · 01/02/2021 19:33

No clocks at all and no mirrors hanging up in my house. We have a small mirror that is kept in the kitchen drawer to pull out if and when needed.

Maireas · 01/02/2021 19:53

How do you manage without mirrors, I'm intrigued!
I'm guessing you have a clock/timer on your cooker?

ZackaryQuack · 01/02/2021 20:24

We call squash by the colour not the flavour, so when we offer it to ds he answes pink/orange/green/purple etc.

It's come from both mine and dh houses growing up.

TheChip · 01/02/2021 20:32

@Maireas ah yes there is a clock on the cooker. We tend to use our phones for the time.

With the mirrors I found removing them helped lower my anxiety. I used to be very self conscious and when I took them down for decorating I felt so much better, so I never put them back up. I no longer feel self conscious

Dowser · 01/02/2021 20:41

Dowsing for lost souls in the house
Thankfully there’s none.
House is full of crystals..and yes im in the middle of thinking about making an altar for the healing

Dowser · 01/02/2021 20:46

I’m another one with no clocks as well. Who wants to see the passage of time? I certainly don’t. We are here for a good time not a long time as it is. I. Pretty good at guessing the time within about 5-10 mins anyway.

I do have mirrors.
Not loads though.

letsgomaths · 01/02/2021 20:48

A "wobble" cushion on my chair in the living room. Someone once asked jokingly if it's a torture chair. (For the uninformed, the cushion is inflatable, and covered in rubber spikes. I like sitting on it, and standing on it barefoot.)

@cateycloggs I've always wanted a turret room! There were lots of houses that had them in my old neck of the woods in south London.

EmmanuelleMakro · 01/02/2021 20:56

Intrigued by the house trained rabbit. Want one!

Dowser · 01/02/2021 21:01

@Weedsnseeds1
Wow..that’s incredible
The dowsers would love to get their hands on your house that’s for sure.

SuburbanCrofter · 01/02/2021 21:13

@spiderlight I gave a little 'squee!' when I realised you'd published pictures of SlothDog and his sloths.

Adorable!

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 01/02/2021 21:15

We have locks on the outside of the bathrooms and kitchen. DD has asd and is obsessed with water, at every opportunity she wants to turn on taps and play with water even from the toilet bowl 🤢

We also have various weird and wonderful sensory toys, a PECS book on the coffee table and visual timetables everywhere Smile

Dowser · 01/02/2021 21:39

@LicketySplat

We have a season table/altar. Inspired by a combination of pagan reverence for nature and Waldorf Steiner ideas. My kids don't go to a Steiner school though. No one outside my family know I am pagan really.
Sounds lovely, I’m in the process of putting together a healing altar I got it throu going with crystals and I’m now sourcing a healing picture I’ve also got an oil diffuser lamp, which I love I’ll probably chop and change things till it feels right We intend to look up york pagans when things are back to normal
Dowser · 01/02/2021 21:50

When the children were quite young I had a piano in the main bedroom and one in the lounge.
We lived in a Medium sized bungalow.
