What do you see? As in what sort of person do you see in your minds eye? Bizarre, but I think of a female with blonde hair, in her mid to late 30's sitting on a couch at night-time, lamp on, scrolling and replying whilst on her phone. I know... totally bizarre!

PS I am none of the above! Except for the phone and couch part.

Actually yes, my mumsnet person has a glass of wine...

I honestly never visualise anyone or anything, unless they specifically describe something. They are just faceless.

ZackaryQuack · 25/01/2021 12:02

I see a women in her early to mid 40s, short bob hair cut, highlights, similar sat on the sofa with a glass of wine or gin scrolling through her phone/ipad.

I'm none of the above, reading it back, I've described a slightly younger version of my dm and mil 😅

Same here.

But I quite often think 'I bet she is a Mumsnetter' when I see certain women/families out and about.

Sparklingbrook · 25/01/2021 12:06

Remember the MN scarf? That used to get me thinking. Grin

KarensChoppyBob · 25/01/2021 12:08

What about the school-run dress?

Sth fishy about that one.

LizFlowers · 25/01/2021 12:09

I don't stop and think of Mumsnet users and do not intend to start.

However it seems they come from all ages and every walk of life so a good cross section.

HeadsOrHearts · 25/01/2021 12:09

@BarbaraofSeville I do that too! Maybe we should all make a secret wave :-D

I don't mean that I think of what each person looks like when they post. as in I'm not thinking of what you look like BarbaraofSeville or where you're sitting etc...

I'm totally generalising here of what Mumsnet Lady looks like... Yes, I know, ridiculous. I don't even know how I thought of this in the first place!

Interesting, I usually assume computer but then I have been here for yonks. I remember the first time I accessed it on a phone and being amazed :o

My image of the poster varies according to their writing style but usually has light brown longish hair and glasses. I don't imagine any specific drinks.

HeadsOrHearts · 25/01/2021 12:12

It's good to have a nice mix of older, younger, male, female etc.

An opinion I had held for a while actually changed from reading a thread once. Broadens the mind...

Yes! I mentally categorise people as potential Mumsnetters.

I once saw a woman MNetting on her phone while I was on the train, but obviously she had her back to me (seat in front across the aisle) so I didn't see her face.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 25/01/2021 12:16

A tall, thin woman with a glass of red and a huge plateful of salad. She has long, brown hair and wears glasses. She wears super stylish clothes. She speaks perfect English without a noticeable accent. She is sitting in the cafe at a National Trust place and has 2 or 3 young children and is speaking to them in quite a frazzled manner whilst trying to appear calm and is saying, "No, Oscar darling, Mummy wants you to put that chocolate down and eat these carrot sticks dipped in her homemade hummus. Jessica sweetheart, stop bouncing on Mummy, she doesn't like it," whilst breastfeeding little Rufus. She is married but her husband is at work, as always.

Shinyletsbebadguys · 25/01/2021 12:17

Grin I play spot the mumsnetter when out (I live in a mildly touristy area so I figure there must be a few of us ). I do generally think of a middle aged woman (of which I am one). DP thinks we are all angry (I am quite often...I prefer to see it as dynamic and strong Grin)

I generally don't have a picture except for a sunday afternoon when I see some slightly odd responses or threads and I often have this picture of MN'ers drinking while cooking Sunday lunch and getting squiffy and putting the world to rights or having a laugh on MN whilst hiding in the kitchen cooking the roast potatoes.

This is based on absolutely nothing and horribly stereotypical. Fully aware many of us don't cook on a sunday , lots don't drink and we could be men. The image persists.

Attached with the idea we are reading punctuated by the odd " Quite bloody right ,I've always thought that" into the ether possibly because I do that alot

LApprentiSorcier · 25/01/2021 12:19

I always picture Mumsnetters wearing a scarf. Not necessarily the Mumsnet scarf, just any scarf.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 25/01/2021 12:22

Btw, my description above is, in many ways, pretty much the opposite of me. I do have long hair, I have 2 children and often visit (or, at least, I used to) NT places but otherwise it's not me. I'm fat, short, unstylish and am more likely to have a plate of chips whilst my dc eat a sarnie, a carton of juice and some crisps. They have names that are often labelled as common on here. I have a very broad Yorkshire accent.

I don't mean to be stereotypical either (and I hope I haven't offended anyone....) meant to be lighthearted thread...I know I am being stereotypical with my imaginary Mumsnet Lady....In reality I know the mumsnetter would be pretty much anyone from any walk of life anywhere in the world....My image persists also!

At a National Trust site a couple of years ago, a kind woman with a buggy and two children offered to take a picture of me and DH together when we were snapping each other in front of a statue. For some reason I thought she must be a Mumsnetter! She was wearing walking-type gear but had very stylish hair and a scarf.

HeadsOrHearts · 25/01/2021 12:30

What is the mumsnet scarf ?

Long before I joined Mumsnet but it's one of those things like Penis Beaker that's become a sort of site legend.

In my mind you all have very stylish haircuts and get regular trims and highlights, and wear very flattering jeans with striped Boden tops.

I'm not a proper MNer because I'm dumpy with scruffy hair and I can't even do a tinkly little laugh.
