I’m assuming not

It's snow, not lava.

Unless it's so heavy the roads are impassable, they'll be out!

LubaLuca · 24/01/2021 11:42

I'm expecting a delivery today, but I won't be fussed if they decide not to bother. It's a risk they don't need to take, but I suppose they can't decide to not deliver at all, so I imagine they'll attempt every delivery.

HeronLanyon · 24/01/2021 11:44

sundays that would be pretty bad !! However this thread makes me think maybe that driver has a complex route of earlier drop offs - fording rushing glacial torrents, dodging the lava mentioned by pp, getting up the 1/20 gradient snow filled lane, blown about by the storm force winds, recurring snow trapped people and livestock etc. It’s not all about you, you know !! Grin

middleager · 24/01/2021 11:46

Unsurprisingly I've had a message to say today's DPD parcel is now delayed until tomorrow.

Very sensible given the poor conditions here, though expect tomorrow to be equally challenging, so would prefer to receive it when it's safe for the drivers.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 24/01/2021 11:47

Surely you'd need to speak to your specific delivery person, no one else will be able to tell you Grin

There are residential street near me that quickly become impassable snow but otherr houses a few yards away on a main road are easy to get to. I'm sure the delivery people do the ones they can and miss out the ones they can't reach. At least that seems to be the most common sense way to do it.

You forgot the herds of wildebeest storming majestically across the Fens Grin
Frownette · 24/01/2021 11:52

Well have you checked online OP?

midnightstar66 · 24/01/2021 12:06

It will depend on the roads in your exact area, I'm in Scotland and the rods are clear here. We'd grind to a halt if deliveries stopped every time we had a bit of inclement weather

Sparklingbrook · 24/01/2021 12:08

Lovely sarcasm on this thread but when you are hearing reports of abandoned vehicles, back in the real world deliveries may just not get through. Hmm

What's the delivery of @User755?

That's good. Nobody cares about the drivers it seems. Confused

I do but there is no reason why they can't deliver to where I live, I'm within a mile of the Amazon centre, the delivery I was waiting for is from within two miles and I live in a very, very flat area, my daughter has got to work with no problem at all (not living with us but in the same town) and the roads are fine. Yes, if the snow is bad I don't expect a delivery. We haven't had our shopping delivery and so haven't got the food essentials that we need.

That's great. For you. I have no idea where our local Amazon centre is but the way the roads are here then I wouldn't want to be a delivery driver. Obviously if the roads are fine and you have no snow then everyone is going about their business as normal.
2020canfuckitself · 24/01/2021 12:29

I've just had my amazon delivery and it's snowing heavily here

DenisetheMenace · 24/01/2021 12:30

I think delivery drivers are brilliant, very grateful for them.

HeronLanyon · 24/01/2021 12:32

Sorry if my levity above indicated lack of care for drivers. Absol not.
Wildebeest are not native to the fens sundays - are they escapees from the hitherto unknown fen ferengheti territories ?
Stay safe everyone. Even with just a few inches settling where I am it looked a bit tricky and was v v cold when I walked out a bit ago. Delivery drivers are absolutely essential at the mo and their job is harder than ever.

Frownette · 24/01/2021 12:33

I don't really understand this thread, when I have a parcel coming I check online to see if it's out for delivery.

Stargazer2404 · 24/01/2021 12:34

Dh is an amazon driver. He could not get up a hill on one of the roads so was advised by manager to skip that one and move onto next

Stargazer2404 · 24/01/2021 12:36

So just because it says 'out for delivery' doesnt mean you will get it, depends on the conditions of your road

Sparklingbrook · 24/01/2021 12:36

@Frownette

You could do that. If the parcel is on a van stuck in snow unable to get up a hill though it's not going to tell you that.

As for not understanding threads on here I am with you on that though-I don't understand half of the threads on here currently. BUT this one's not about COVID and for that I am grateful. Grin

Chemenger · 24/01/2021 12:37

We've had snow on the ground for a week or so, no problems with deliveries. We make sure that our drive and path to the door is clear, salted and safe for them. Our drive is steep and dangerous when icy, I wouldn't expect anyone to come up it, even on foot, if it wasn't clear. We also clear the pavement at the bottom of the drive so they can pull up and safely access the property. Our street is a bus route so it's always clear. Our bin wasn't emptied on Thursday because of the snow but they are coming today. We're in Scotland.

lubeybooby · 24/01/2021 12:38

I'm 1000ft up a hill and have 5/6inches of snow, but they usually still manage to get up here long as roads have been gritted, which thankfully here they have. Got one due by 3pm so fingers crossed

Sparklingbrook · 24/01/2021 12:42

Our Council say they are gritting but I've not seen any evidence of this. Sad They say they have snowploughs out too but I've never seen one. I need to move, clearly. Grin

Frownette · 24/01/2021 12:42

@sparklingbrook yeah they usually update after they get back to the depot if they can't do the delivery.

It's the spelling on here which sometimes gets me, I blink very hard and temporarily get confused about what the correct way is

sundaysgirls · 24/01/2021 12:45

Wildebeest are not native to the fens sundays - are they escapees from the hitherto unknown fen ferengheti territories ?

The very same. Commonly seen on Saturday nights at about 11pm I believe.

Sparklingbrook · 24/01/2021 12:46

Summary of this thread I think is that if the delivery can get to you it will. If it can't they'll let you know.
And delivery drivers are real life actual people who don't live at the depot, so they have to consider their journey to work too.
