Do you have a favourite gemstone or crystal ?

In no particular order of preference, I like rubies, sapphires and amethysts. These three, in their deepest but still transparent shades of red, blue and purple are a sight to behold and probably quite nice to own too. Diamonds are, obviously, expensive but being frequently colourless (not always), I find them less pleasing to the eye. Emeralds I can take or leave, depending on whether or not I like the shade of green.

Clear quartz. I love pretty much all gemstones, but you hardly ever see clear quartz in jewellery.

Labobo · 23/01/2021 17:14

I love deep blue sapphires - not that I own any.

At the lower end, I love rose quartz and amethyst

Lunariagal · 23/01/2021 17:14

Labradorite

Rose quartz, peridot, and jaspers are lovely at the cheaper end of the scale.

Opals of all colours are beautiful.

I prefer garnets over rubies - the colours seem richer.

I don’t like white diamonds, love the champagne ones though.

I don’t like much mass-market/modern looking jewellery though, I much prefer the stuff that the Edwardians and Victorians played with, or some Art Deco bits.

However, I’m poor and fussy, so don’t own any jewellery. It is pretty to look at though, and an enjoyable way to while away an hour or so online. :o

Diamond is my favourite. It's also my birthstone.

DramaAlpaca · 23/01/2021 18:26

I love coloured stones. Ruby, emerald, morganite, aquamarine and amethyst are among my favourites.

My engagement ring is a deep red oval ruby surrounded by diamonds, it's beautiful. I was very taken with an emerald in the same style, but the stone had an obvious flaw so went with the ruby.

I also have a pretty opal ring I inherited, I love the way the different colours catch the light.

Diamonds don't really do it for me, I much prefer coloured stones.

Icenii · 23/01/2021 18:28

My engagement ring is a rectangle navy sapphire flanked by 2 triangle diamonds.

Amethyst really doesn't do it for me, which is a shame as its my birthstone.

MogTheSleepyCat · 23/01/2021 18:29

Pearls - beautiful, simple and timeless.

OchreBlue · 23/01/2021 18:40

I love citrine, I have a simple raw chunk of it with a rainbow in the middle and it cheers me up every time I hold it to the light. I also love fluorite, it's also beautiful to hold up to the light.

RosesAndHellebores · 23/01/2021 20:01

Ooh Icenii I have an emerald cut sapphire too. But flanked by two circular diamonds. One doesn't see many three stone rings now with a coloured stone in the centre. Must be due a comeback.

WildRosie · 23/01/2021 20:05

There are so many, probably one for all tastes. Perfect if your favourite is also your birthstone. Blue John from Derbyshire can look attractive, as can chalcedony, although these two are probably better for ornamental use rather than jewellery.

Emerald. (who could have guessed based on username ?!)
My engagement ring is an emerald cut emerald with a triangle diamond on each side. I love it.

PeppermintSoda · 23/01/2021 22:13

Aquamarine and tanzanite

Itstheprinciple · 23/01/2021 22:15

Lapis lazuli. I adore the blue colour.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 23/01/2021 22:19

I love them all. So hard to pick a favourite...

Diamonds are mesmerising, even the yellow hued ones, particularly if they're old cut stones with big facets.

I love the warmth of rubies; I have a really beautiful ruby ring that I don't wear as it's massive on me and I'd intended on selling it. It has flashes of blue in it. It's amazing.

Rich navy blue sapphires are nice but a bit too cool toned for my taste.

I also love peridot and aquamarines.

I also like garnet, morganite, citrine, emeralds and tourmalines. 😍

SwimmingOnEggshells · 23/01/2021 22:21

@RosesAndHellebores your ring sounds beautiful. I'm lusting after something like that as a right hand ring.

RosesAndHellebores · 23/01/2021 22:47

Hope it lives up to expectations.

They are all beautiful but I love pearls, moonstone, amethyst and rubies (my birthstone)

Jasmin82 · 23/01/2021 23:27

Aquamarine. It's my birthstone. I also like sapphires.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 23/01/2021 23:36

I don't think I've ever shared this photo anywhere so I'll post it here because it seems relevant. It's my favourite ring - an amethyst with 3 small diamonds on either side - given to me as a 21st birthday gift that I was trying to show off next to an amethyst geode. I love the colour and sparkle but rarely wear it because it stands too high on my finger and I worry about catching and breaking it.

Beautiful rings, ladies!

I am addicted to browsing www.gemporia.com/en-gb/

StartupRepair · 23/01/2021 23:49

Have always loved deep dark sapphires. I also find peridot and citrine deeply satisfying. And the flash of diamonds in the light...I just love sparkly things basically.

CounsellorTroi · 23/01/2021 23:59

Emeralds, citrine, tanzanite.

funtimefrank · 24/01/2021 00:58

My mums is Opal. She has loads including a stunning 1950s broach in the shape of a gold spider with a really high quality fiery Opal as the body. It's quirky and unusual bought for my very stylish great aunt by her rich fiancé at the time .

I like a moonstone but I'm not sure that counts. MIL loves an emerald.

Oldraver · 24/01/2021 01:02

Blue John has to be my favourite

I have a ring and earrings and a lovely broach I want to wear as a necklace
