I like the idea of a ‘wellness journey’

MuddyWalk5007 · 23/01/2021 00:21

I think I need one. I’m going a bit loopy.
Comfort eating has brought me discomfort. My clothes, when I get changed into them from my ‘loungewear’ feel rather tight.
All the doom and gloom all over the internet has made me feel gloomy.

I want to feel well again.
What do I need to do? I think I could do with more yoga and soup in my life. I can start off with that. That sounds like it belongs in a ‘wellness journey’
What else can I do?

@EastofEdna I don't know if this is of interest to you but Patrick Stewart read out a sonnet a day on Twitter during lockdown and they are still available. Of course, going on Twitter could end up being a huge time monster!

EastofEdna · 03/02/2021 08:14

Ooh @Sometimesonly - thank you for that maybe if I just listen to the sonnet I am reading that will not be too time thievery.

I don’t have a busy day work-wise today so am hoping to get a lot done.

MuddyWalk5007 · 03/02/2021 09:53

Thanks @YetAnotherWalk. My back is fine now. I don’t think yoga suits me or I’m doing it wrong. I’ll stick to walking for now.

IF is working for me at the moment. I’ve found a recipe site that I love. It’s a US site called eatingwell and has some inspiring dishes. I’ve got into all the one pot dishes! Love them as they’re so easy and tasty. It’s nice having a browse and seeing all the different ingredients they use.

I’m so happy that I’ve finally got back into reading too. Books are a lovely escape and I’ve so missed them.

Today’s list has
IF, walk, work, do some of my course, read, something fun with dc after school.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Lovely walk this morning. Watched a vole out and about sorting out a dug-up bulb for lunch which was very cute. Lots of snowdrops in bloom. Spring's on the way.

Had vegan chilli for lunch, left over from last night's dinner. Healthy, loads of veg and delicious.

YetAnotherWalk · 03/02/2021 18:08

Hi all

A 7 1/2 hour eating window today, but still stress eating in the afternoon - I just struggle with multiple children needing attention and I can't even seem to go to the loo without chaos at some points! Angry Will be doing yoga in a bit to focus on my lower back today.

Sounds lovely @Labobo

I guess yoga is not for everyone @MuddyWalk5007. I have worked through a few of Adrienne's videos and know which ones work.
Have you heard of Walk with Leslie? Aerobic type walks which you do inside...while nature walks are good in other ways, this one is really good for calorie burn and increasing heart rate.

Take care all

EastofEdna · 03/02/2021 19:22

Today:

  1. Sonnet 6 today with the added bonus of Patrick Stewart reading it to me as well
  2. Have stuck with my window for meals today and ate mindfully
  3. Exercise bike arrived so am all set up now for some spinning
  4. Lots of water today and a decent night’s sleep last night

I wish I could get into a good yoga habit at home: I really miss my class.

Perfectly sound idea but please, please don’t call it “a journey” 🥴
Why not call it a journey? What a strange and pointless thing to contribute to a thread - do you object to the common phrase 'journey through life' too?“

Thought about this and you’re absolutely right. I hate the phrase, personally, but I should have kept that to myself and not commented. As you said, it contributed nothing.
My apologies.

Labobo · 04/02/2021 08:42

DH scoffs at the use of journey, but I think it's a really valuable mindset. A few years ago I had been ill for a long time and getting worse, with chronic fatigue, unable to work, sleeping all day, on antidepressants. I made a pledge one NYE to dedicate the entire year to getting well. I did. I tried absolutely everything I could think of: supplements, walks, meditation, exercise, diet change, journalling. It was an exceptional year and by the end of it I was back in the world, energised and in well paid work. It was definitely a journey from sickness to health with landmarks along the way and 'mountains' to climb and forks in the road to choose. Maybe that sounds pretentious but thats how it felt.

Labobo · 04/02/2021 08:44

@EastofEdna - I love your sonnet idea. Did you sign up to some sonnet delivery service Grin or are you just reading one a day and looking on you tube for actors performing.

Not a sonnet, but I massively recommend Zawe Ashton's version of Jacques' speech All The World's A Stage. It's on You Tube and makes me cry every time I hear it. She's magnificent.

MuddyWalk5007 · 04/02/2021 09:32

Tbh I wasn’t raving about calling it a journey, that’s why it’s in quotes, but I do think it’s apt.
I have made huge progress since the start of this thread. I’m losing weight, eating better, reading and generally much more positive. And I’ll carry on, step by step, like a journey.
It’s not easy by any means, but I know I have to do these things to avoid that downward spiral I could feel coming on.

@EastofEdna let us know how you get in with your bike. I’d love one but have nowhere to put it. I have a bike so I could cycle more. Well that’s got me thinking....maybe I should try more cycling this year?

EastofEdna · 04/02/2021 09:35

@labobo I am reading them in order; and I then found this yesterday: www.nosweatshakespeare.com which handily has a link to Patrick Stewart reading it. I do have a book of them somewhere, but am in the middle of decorating so who knows where it is. I love your description of a journey and what a great commitment you made to you own wellbeing.

Just had an hour's hard exercise, so am set up for the day. Will be back later.

oreo2020 · 04/02/2021 09:46

My first half of lockdown was a lot of drinking - not good.
I have now cut it down to one or two drinks over weekends.
I've cut out soft fizzy drinks like Coke.
I put a goal on Strava app to be moving at least 100 miles per month (mainly cycling). Actually doing much more.
I got my first motorbike at the ripe age of mid 40s Grin

I have not been ill except from one time when I thought I had high fever and went for Covid test - it turned out my thermometer was broken and there was no fever Smile

EastofEdna · 04/02/2021 10:08

@muddywalk5007 - I had a little go last night and will have a proper go later; it feels quite sturdy and has wheels so it can be moved around. Am planning on 30 mins today in front of the TV...

Acinonyx2 · 04/02/2021 10:13

Last Jan I got really into the Miracle Morning program as developed by Hal Enron. I didn't get up as early as some - just 6.30-7 but it really helped to settle my mood for the day. I have health problems just now so I've not been able to keep the same schedule but I have kept up some bits of it later in the morning. I stopped drinking same time which meant I was fresher in the morning to do this. He's quite an inspirational guy and the program has a lot of scope for personalisation.

EastofEdna · 05/02/2021 10:22

Yesterday

  1. Sonnet 7
  2. Hour exercise + 30 mins on spin bike
  3. Stuck to 18:6 fast window

Today:

  1. WS - Sonnet 8 -done.
  2. I had the joy of a 30 min drive for an eye test. I made the most of being alone in the car and belting out tunes with the radio, but also the sheer joy of some different scenery
  3. Meetings till 12 so will have stuck to another IF window
  4. We have good weather so will get out for a walk later.

That's it for now, have a good day

MuddyWalk5007 · 05/02/2021 10:38

@Acinonyx2 I like that idea. I always feel more positive when I’m up earlier and get some things done.

Today I’ll meet a friend for a walk, do some work, read and stick to my IF.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Hi, been an awful day with tears from both DS and I but we got outside while it was sunny and I've done 7hrs 15 min eating window and done some yoga.

Yesterday we had a good day and I had a walk, a chat with a friend, a 7hr window and yoga.

Tomorrow is meant to be wet, Sunday snow and the rest of the week sub zero Shock Not ideal!

Sounds like you're doing well Edna and MuddyWalks

Ah fizzy drinks @oreo2020 another of my downfalls - Coke! Blush

MuddyWalk5007 · 06/02/2021 09:11

@YetAnotherWalk sorry you had a rough day. It’s sad when the dc ate do upset. I hope you have a better day today. Well done for remaining positive Smile

I ate a bit too much yesterday. I don’t even know why but just ate some chocolate and crisps that I didn’t need. I did 9000 steps which is the most I’ve done in ages.

Today’s aims are - IF, walk, reading, cleaning bedrooms including changing sheets. It will be a busy day!

YetAnotherWalk · 06/02/2021 16:26

Thanks, we've had a great day today with lots of time outside feel slightly frozen

My scales haven't really shifted, but I know I'm eating too much junk inside my eating window, but at least I'm eating for 7 or 8 hours instead of 12!

Hope you got through your to do list!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 06/02/2021 23:11

Hi OP, have you tried Cosmic Kids yoga? They are doing a free quest pack at the moment which has helped motivate my DS1 (5) - he's borderline ASD and struggles with concentration, but does enjoy yoga.

I've been on my 'journey' for a couple of weeks after years of neglecting myself, really - been a SAHM and have 3st+ to lose. I just have zero confidence and worry that my social skills have left me (not helped by lockdown and hardly seeing anyone for a year now, of course!). DP has around 8st to lose but is zero help...

Bad weather forecast here too but we had a lovely sunny (and not too chilly) day here today, I went for my first long walk for ages. By long I mean 30 minutes but it's a start Grin

Getting more sleep

CrazyCatLady13 · 07/02/2021 12:03

I got a desk bike for about £40 from Amazon. I thought if I'm WFH at a desk all day it might help, I have fibromyalgia so exercise has to be gentle. I'm now up to 3k a day, hoping to get to 5 k by the end of February. I also enjoy crafts so try to do one thing every evening, even if it's reading one of my craft books or planning my next project!

shinynewapple2021 · 07/02/2021 15:11

Have now read full thread. Thank you OP and to everyone else who has contributed useful ideas

One thing I find helpful is to go outside very first thing in the morning, just for a few minutes, normally wearing my dressing gown, either while waiting for kettle to boil or drinking my first cup of tea . I just stand in the garden and watch the birds . I read that natural light first thing helps your body clock and sleep later .

EastofEdna · 07/02/2021 19:12

Hello it’s been a busy old couple of days

  1. Sonnets 9 & 10
  2. 20 mins run on C25K prog
  3. 40 mins on exercise bike
  4. And I got more than 10k steps in today more than I’ve done in ages (when I read your list @MuddyWalk5007 I thought I’d posted earlier and forgotten!)
  5. I have kept to my intermittent fast window the past 2 days - let’s hope the scales are kind tomorrow; that would be nice. It is however just lovely to feel calm and relaxed about food. (It’s a marathon, not a sprint). Looking forward to a bath, bed and a meditation and getting ready for a busy week.
MuddyWalk5007 · 09/02/2021 10:41

I’ve finished a book! I’m very pleased and keen to start another.

I’ve switched my exercise from yoga to a short strength building exercise. It’s 11 minutes and I read about it in an article. It’s pretty straightforward and I can do it while watching tv.
I’m also walking.

I’m still keeping up with IF but need to reduce the snacking again. It’s so easy to fall back into it.

I hope everyone else is getting on well.
