DH is in hospital and wants to do something lovely for the staff

He's been there 10 days. A long list of serious problems, we don't know what the outcome will be. He's completely bed bound.

Among other things, he's had severe constipation. I'll spare you the details, but it's been treated and he now has the opposite problem, resulting (as he puts it) in some poor girl having to clean him on an hourly basis.

He says the staff without exception have been lovely and so patient with him. He didn't want to do chocolate because it's so hot in the ward. What else?

Ah that's lovely! A nice card with a thoughtful message will be v well received and most likely pinned to the message board. It'll last much longer than chocs.
Also, though, biscuits. Do not underestimate the power of biscuits in the NHS Wink

Biscuits. Nice picky bits for the staff room.

Greysparkles · 20/01/2021 14:37

Biscuits, boxes of heroes, I once saw someone order 20 domino's pizzas for a ward!

I was going to suggest biscuits too, also your poor dh, my nan went through the same thing recently and it was pretty traumatic, hope he recovers soon Flowers

MonkeyPuddle · 20/01/2021 14:37

I took a big box of cans of Diet Coke when I had DD.

MonkeyPuddle · 20/01/2021 14:40

Oh and a card. I’m a nurse and we keep the cards because they’re lovely and can use them for our revalidation evidence (anonymised)

UseOfWeapons · 20/01/2021 14:52

That’s a lovely thought. As others have said, a card would be wonderful, as we love to read positive comments , especially when we’ve had a shit day!
As for biscuits, I agree, with caveat to check either with ward sister or PALS, as some hospitals are not accepting anything at the moment.
I do like a nice bourbon with a cuppa, though..,🙂

Whenigrowupiwanttobea · 20/01/2021 14:53

Biscuits and keep them coming!!!! Lol!!!

ChikiTIKI · 20/01/2021 15:08

What if he writes a thank you letter, and gets a big basket of fruit or something like that delivered? Quite refreshing in a hot building, more so than cake.

Also I took some cake in to hospital with me when I had dd1 and it went mouldy because it was so hot! Not that cakes tend to last more than a couple of hours in workplaces anyway 🙂

edwinbear · 20/01/2021 15:13

I've just had one of these delivered to the staff at my aunt's care home. It went down very well indeed.

I gave my chemo team a card with a bag of goodies, including: coffee bags, tea bags, individual portions of Borders biscuits, hand cream and lip balm. The biscuits, tea and coffee were individually wrapped.

GameSetMatch · 20/01/2021 15:25

Beverley hills bakery do really nice cakes for delivery, we had some delivered over Christmas they were superb!

Individually wrapped sweets or biscuits are preferable as the hospital may have Covid restrictions on staff sharing unwrapped food (ours does). Also, a couple of bottles of nice cordial or fruit squash is always welcomed. I find i need to drink a lot more water on the ward as the mask and visor makes my mouth really dry so something more exciting than water is lovely to have. Wishing a good outcome for your DH.

ParkheadParadise · 20/01/2021 15:28

What about biscuits and an assortment of
Teabags, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar.

Atalune · 20/01/2021 15:31

Was going to suggest a delivery of Krispy Kreme donuts?

Glitterb · 20/01/2021 15:34

We bought some varieties of gourmet popcorn in tins when my Mum was in hospital (sounds an odd choice but it went down well!)

What about a selection of nice hand creams, coffees etc things like that? I’m sure anything would go down well and be well received

StephenBelafonte · 20/01/2021 15:37

Urgh! not sugar they get enough of that.

How about a fruit basket

bloodywhitecat · 20/01/2021 15:40

I used to work on an neonatal ward and we loved receiving hot drinks hampers or fruit hampers.

user2021 · 20/01/2021 15:42

After both DC birth, we gave a card and huge tub of chocolates.

Randomrebel · 20/01/2021 15:45

I think a lovely card would be appreciated as I don’t think biscuits or staff delving in to share anything at the moment would go down very well in this current climate.

Ffsnosexallowed · 20/01/2021 15:45

Lovely thought. I'd check with them, at the minute we're not allowed sharing biscuits or sweets because of risk of infection spread.

sashagabadon · 20/01/2021 15:47

An email to the chief executive. They’d love it, can share it and praise for the team from the SLT always goes down well

Workyticket · 20/01/2021 15:47

A coffee pod machine and pods

A local company delivery of cakes

Delivery of slabs of pop

Nice handcream each?

notanotherlockdownsurely · 20/01/2021 15:51

I once gave a toasted sandwich maker. The staff said it was gratefully received and meant they could get themselves a hot snack even when they didn't have time to get to the canteen

Beautiful3 · 20/01/2021 15:53

Big box of biscuits and diet coke would be well received.
