Why can I not switch off at night and sleep at a reasonable time??

Can't seem to switch off at night these days and up until 3/4am every night then totally exhausted in the morning even although I'm having a lie in! Went for a walk today in the fresh air for a change, didn't help as still awake at 2am! Ahhhhh

I'm awake too. End up falling asleep after work then can't sleep and then get up late so falling behind with work. It's a vicious circle and worse as have been wfh constantly since march.

BlueHawaii · 20/01/2021 03:14

Crap isn't it? I'm here and have to get up in 4 hours to sit an exam remotely for 6 hours 😩. Hate it!! DS2 has just had a nightmare so sleeping in my bad-and he fidgets...

Nonameslob · 20/01/2021 03:22

Another one here. Been like this for a few years now. Fall asleep about midnight then wide awake 3 hours later. Or like now, not managed to fall asleep at all. I'm off work tomorrow so I'm just going to sleep in. I feel like I can't carry on like this. I look dreadful, dark eyes and grey skin.

fizzybootlace · 20/01/2021 03:40

Hello! Another 4/5am-er here!

Last night I was asleep by 2am for some odd reason so knew tonight there was no chance!!

Usually sleep til 10 so ok amount of sleep but start new job on Monday so i need to get back into a better pattern. Its so shit. I'm just trying not to stress about it and get up and see what's in the fridge!!

DS is struggling with insomnia. It's lack of exercise. He'd sleep if he did stuff with his body daily.

3beesinmybonnet · 20/01/2021 14:56

So yesterday I worked on the accounts for our small business from after tea till going to bed at 4 am, when I realised I felt tired. Still took me about an hour to get to sleep but I suspect that was because I spent the last few hours working on the PC.
Woke up again at 12 midday so had around 7 hours sleep. But I felt more enthusiasm for getting up to carry on with the accounts instead of just lying there thinking what boring jobs I need to do. Also because I didn't do anything nice after the accounts I feel like I've still got a reward 'in the bank'. Definitely feeling more positive. I'll see how it goes tonight.
Apologies to all those working and/or looking after children and anyone else who has to stick to a timetable regardless of how little sleep they've had. I feel for you. Might be an idea to just skip my posts on this thread.

Snog · 20/01/2021 21:47

I find HRT transformative for sleep

StormsDontLastForever · 21/01/2021 02:04

Hope there aren't too many of you still awake tonight. I have been exhausted all day, about 6:30/7pm I felt like I could sleep there and then. I can't as dd was still awake. Now I have been wide awake for hours, no chance of sleep here anytime soon

CoffeethenCrochet · 21/01/2021 02:09

I'm still awake Hmm

Monkeytennis97 · 21/01/2021 02:15

Yup same here

Purplethrow · 21/01/2021 02:16

I’m awake too, it’s the same every night, I also wake up naturally at around 6:30 having had 3-4 hours sleep . I then feel sleepy at around 3pm but come bed time I’m wide awake again.

StormsDontLastForever · 21/01/2021 02:18

It's so annoying isn't it. I can't work out if it is maybe stress related due to lockdown and homeschooling but a lot of people seem to be the same at the moment. I would do anything to get to sleep at a decent time

TwinklyLaughNot · 21/01/2021 02:26

I'm here too. Thanks for starting this thread OP. I don't feel so alone now that I know there are others with such an annoying sleep pattern.

StormsDontLastForever · 21/01/2021 02:27

@TwinklyLaughNot sympathies. I really wouldn't wish this awful sleep pattern on anyone. It is so draining. You are not alone for sure ❤️

Yep. Up doing work now as can't sleep. Supposed to be teaching online at 9.00am and have a really busy day ahead FFS.

Thank you for writing that. You'll never know how much you've helped me Flowers

quickkimchi · 21/01/2021 03:19

Same for me, but I've been getting more exercise than ever so it's not inactivity, I barely get a moment alone - all day with my mum, then the moment she goes up to get ready for bed dh sits down in her place and I do a second shift.
Normally I spend most of the day on my own (which really suits me), this is a shock to the system. I keep making daft mistakes because I'm so distracted, I never get to wind down. I'm lucky that I can get a lie in when I need one but sleeping late is draining too in its own way, and the meal schedule gets later and later so between the late eating and the tension I also have chronic heartburn Hmm
I'm trying to make my peace with it, I've always coped with emotional upset by staying up late and I'm doing the best I can under the circumstances.
Up to bed now, hope the rest of you can get some rest Flowers

73kittycat73 · 21/01/2021 03:27

Awake here too. Sad I even tried buying some sleep pillow mist from Neom. It smells really strong and has not helped at all. Sad Once I'm asleep I'm usually ok, it's just getting off to sleep...sigh

Purplethrow · 21/01/2021 06:46

Managed to drop off to sleep and am now wide awake again Sad

OldAndWornOut · 21/01/2021 18:04

I've forced myself not to nap today.
I feel like crap; got a bad headache, but I'm determined to stay up, and go to bed/sleep at a normal time.

DeeCeeCherry · 21/01/2021 18:13

If you look at your phone or watch TV before bed, then your mind is awake. Not good if you're predisposed to sleep problems

I was terrible for saying I'm an insomniac, yet not admitting I was actually phone-scrolling a lot. I had to wean myself off the phone habit.

I have a hot drink and settle down for a read now (book, not Kindle as being screen-free before bed matters), and am now much better at drifting off to sleep. If I don't do this then I put relaxing music on very low where it can just about be heard, and fall asleep to that

Being dehydrated and also having a blanket/cover that makes you too hot at night is something to avoid too

Chambored · 22/01/2021 04:05

Here I am again. 4am awake.

Purplethrow · 22/01/2021 04:16

I managed to drop off at a reasonable time but the bloody cat has just scratched at my door to be let out.

Oblomov20 · 22/01/2021 04:18

Here. Keep me asking at 2am or 3am. Driving me nuts.
