Shiny new thread to see us through to end of the month... possibly beyond!

KOKOing everyone.

Amazing! So what happens now for you? @BrassicaBabe

pointythings · 26/01/2021 16:05

BrassicaBabe it sounds as if it's worth giving moderation another shot now that you're on the meds - and that would be a result. Amazing!

Dugee · 26/01/2021 18:35

@BrassicaBabe

Did you have to pay for a private diagnosis? I've heard that the NHS isn't keen on diagnosing adults with ADHD.

Ladywinesalot · 26/01/2021 18:54

@BrassicaBabe That’s great news with your diagnosis and treatment!

I suspect I’m adhd too but have no idea how to get diagnosed. My gp surgery is not easy to work with.

How did you get the diagnosis?

BrassicaBabe · 26/01/2021 19:36

Hey both. I went private. A clinic called ADHD 360. They work with the nhs too. I'm too impatient to work through whatever through the hoops my GP would throw down SmileHmm

CrystalE · 26/01/2021 23:04

Evening all. Did my online shop tonight. Ordered a bottle of wine. Wondering whether this time next week I will have drunk it. Just not sure.

Hey ho. Day 26 done

Labobo · 26/01/2021 23:09

Hi everyone - well done on still hanging in there. I have almost. Confess I twice had a quick slurp of wine when cooking to see if it was fit for the job, having hung around the fridge all January. But just a taste. Apart from that, it's been a dry month. I am looking forward to a glass of wine though so probably won't keep going after 31st but will try and have a couple of days off every week.

headlock · 26/01/2021 23:41

I'm feeling very proud of myself having not touched a drop of alcohol the whole of January, especially with the way things are at the moment. A couple of wobbles early in the month but got through it. Smile

buzzofthebumblebee · 27/01/2021 11:13

well done head, and well done all of us. And a taste really doesn't count labobo so you're good.

Day 27.

Actually thinking this morning how I haven't woken up with "insomnia" at 3am for a good while. I don't know the science but I do know that alcohol makes you get to sleep quicker, but sleep isn't so good, hence I used to regularly (nightly) wake at 3 / 3.30am for a good couple of hours. Does the benefit of a full and deep night's sleep outweigh a gin? Of course. But I know I will need to keep reminding myself of that come February ....

katmarie · 27/01/2021 12:51

Hi all, still here, still dry, feeling very proud of myself. I've lost a few pounds, although my jeans are still too tight. But hopefully sticking with it through to easter will help.

thinkofablinkingnamewoman · 27/01/2021 14:40

Yes, bumblebee - am also having to face up to the fact that my 3am insomnia might be caused ..... by me! Argh. In my head it's a great reason to stick to one drink. But I'm a terrible moderator....

HPLikecraft · 27/01/2021 15:01

We here I am behind again. Having major probs with home schooling for mentally unwell teen, house is a mess, one of my mum's best friends has just died of Covid and my diet is long since gown the pan.
But!
I've not had a drink, and don't think I'm craving too much or feeling like I'm missing something. Oh I really fancy one, but I think it's just because I love the taste and fancy it as a treat, rather than because there's any lingering addiction/dependency/ compulsion borne of association. Or maybe I'm fooling myself. Whatever, I'm dry!

Just now, 3pm is 85% of the way through, and I'm sure you'll agree that's pretty cheering.

So sorry @HPLikecraft Maybe it's not in the spirit of things, but no one would blame you for cracking open a bottle!

HPLikecraft · 27/01/2021 17:09

No, I'm fine thanks, @BrassicaBabe, there will be no booze passing these lips for a while yet! Wink

OP posts:
Dugee · 27/01/2021 17:51

@buzzofthebumblebee

Yes, I get that, alcohol helps you nod off but disrupts sleep patterns. Alcohol is also a diuretic so I sometimes wake at 3 needing a wee, if I've had any alcohol (even a small amount).

Dugee · 27/01/2021 17:52

Thanks @BrassicaBabe

Congratulations on your diagnosis it must feel eye opening.

CoronaIsWatching · 27/01/2021 17:55

Day 27 for me too. I'm still debating whether to drink on the 1st or save it til the Friday 5th.. I guess I will see how I feel on the day, no pressure.

Rosehassometoes · 27/01/2021 18:22

I was dry on 31/12 so 4 weeks today for me. Definitely having a drink on Monday. Glad I’ve stuck to it!

InTheseUncertainTimes · 27/01/2021 19:02

Sorry you're having to deal with all of that HPLikecraft!

Day 27 check in. The ragu worked very well with the red wine stock, and the 0.0% Merlot was kind of nice. It was Eisberg - the cheap stuff. Smells like normal wine, but has a lighter and sweeter taste. I enjoyed having it to sip while cooking, though. Otherwise not much to report here.

DM had told me before that she and DF were also doing DJ, as their wine consumption had been creeping up. (I'd say it crept up in the 1990s and never went down, but better not make comments like that...) I happened to ask her today if they were still doing it. She said they were indeed. "But you know, still having some wine, now and again." Hmm

UsernameFail · 27/01/2021 21:01

Gosh @HPLikecraft you certainly are in the thick of it! I really feel for you. If I was you I would have been reaching for the wine so well done for staying dry.

Day 27 here and 12,200 calories saved! I can't believe it. I've always known booze if filled with empty calories and if that doesn't keep me on the straight and narrow I don't know what will.

HPLikecraft · 27/01/2021 21:50

Hope you're all doing well and staying strong this evening.
Midnight sees us 87% of the way through! And only another 4 days left after today. Can hardly believe it: it crawled for ages, now seems to have sped up towards the end... like being pregnant!

We're nearly there, everyone, no caving in now.

Wow 87% Grin

Shanster · 27/01/2021 22:43

Evening ladies! I was thinking yesterday that I could remain AF after the end of the month, how it got easier as the month went on....and today I’ve had a shit day at work, it’s too wet to get out for a walk, and just got a call from DD’s school to say she’s in quarantine after covid exposure a week ago Hmm. I would really like a take away and large glass of wine. At least I’m recognizing my triggers, yesterday I won a big award at work but felt fine telling my husband I didn’t need wine to celebrate. For me alcohol has become what I turn to for consolidation (though I know if I have more than a glass I won’t sleep). Anyways, I’ll soldier on AF for now.

HPLikecraft · 28/01/2021 09:09

Morning everyone, hope you've slept well.

Just the rest of today, then another three days to go. How are you all planning on proceeding with alcohol from Monday?
Looks like we have some dry, some attempting damp, and I guess others will just do whatever, having had the break of DJ as a rest from alcohol.

I guess I'll stay stay for Feb, though DH is pestering me go have a drink on Monday with him first before drying out again. Must say I'm tempted!

Have a good day, everyone.

UsernameFail · 28/01/2021 09:37

You sound a bit like me @Shanster - reaching for wine when you're triggered. I agree with you that it's got easier as the month went on.. and I wonder for me, how my next experiment will go as to whether I can have the odd drink without falling back into old habits or not.

Only time will tell
