My hands look like a wrinkly scrotum. Help.

For context, I'm 43 and my hands look 73. In the winter they normally get quite dry and chapped but this year they are obviously even worse. Between the hand washing and the sanitising they look like a well lived in, cold scrotum. Clearly not the look I'm going for. I find most hand creams pretty ineffectual (and the hand washing doesn't help their level of effectiveness). Any ideas about how I can have smooth, well moisturised hands?

Get some cotton gloves, usually find them in with the exfoliating mitts and such at the supermarket. Slather your hands in a really rich thick moisturiser, doesn't have to be expensive Nivea will do the trick and then put the gloves on. Do it at bedtime so the cream has a good few hours to really soak in.

Do that a couple of times a week and make sure you wear gloves outside to protect your hands from the cold and wind.

No advice but sometimes thread titles on here make me cry with laughter Grin

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo so should I actually sleep in them? I don't know how I feel about that. But the alternative is pretty off putting so I suppose I should try! Would the Norwegian formula stuff do?

Beautypie retinol hand cream

surlycurly · 18/01/2021 21:41

@WankPuffins your name made me chuckle more than a little too.

Beautypie retinol hand cream
Oooh where would I get this? It's not on Amazon (my go to for everything; feel free to judge me for supporting the allegedly tax dodging bastards).

The Chemistry Brand Intense Youth hand cream has been a game changer for me. I don't tend to believe the hype in beauty products but this stuff does what it says. It took about six weeks before I noticed a difference. I put it on twice a day. You can get it from Look Fantastic.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 18/01/2021 21:47

@surlycurly yes you should sleep with them on. I know it might feel weird but it lets you really slather the cream on and not end up with it spread all over your sheets/face/hair 😆

Whatever hand cream you have will be fine, I even used some heel repair cream once as it was all I could find and my knuckles were getting all dry and sore and cracking so desperate measures were needed!

Im roaring laughing at your post title what an image😂
The hand cream & cotton gloves at bed time really works a treat. Im using E45 hand cream with evening primrose oil at the moment & find it good.

RickiTarr · 18/01/2021 21:49

I am 44 and I started following the “whatever you put onto your face, put it on your hands too” rule about 18 months ago. It works pretty well.

Do you have any photos, maybe they're not as bad as you think. Second the glove idea, get some of that £1 nivea creme and sleep in it every night.

Letsskidaddle · 18/01/2021 21:50

Get some O'Keefe's 'Working Hands' hand cream, it's amazing! Mine always used to be cracked and sore and this was like a miracle! Available at chemists/supermarkets and Amazon.

greycloudysky · 18/01/2021 21:50

I use L'Occitane Shea hand cream.

surlycurly · 18/01/2021 21:50

@delilahbucket this is what I was hoping for- some fancy wonder cream that I've never heard of. I need it! If this works it may be my first miracle on the journey to sainthood.

Neutrogena Norwegian formula used constantly for a few days. Good as new.

RickiTarr · 18/01/2021 21:53

In any case, when creams stop working, go the fingerless gloves and long sleeves route and carry on. As long as they’re not sore.

EvieBoo2 · 18/01/2021 21:53

I recommend Body Shop Hemp Hand Cream. I used to have hands like yours, now I use this every day and they are lovely and smooth.

surlycurly · 18/01/2021 21:54

@RickiTarr I'm jealous if your childlike hands!!! Look at them- they're like a baby's!

And I'm not posting pics of my manly parts hands... the pics would need a warning! And I've just moisturised them so they don't look as hideous. Grin

Thank you for all the recommendations- budget will decide this one I think!

RickiTarr · 18/01/2021 21:57

Well they still look like shovels but they’ve smoothed out since I started using face cream on them. Grin

surlycurly · 18/01/2021 22:03

Ah I also have hands like an farmer. Get them from my Irish grandpa. Nice man but could have lived without the huge hands! At least I didn't get his ears...

Yes, definitely the farming genes. Smile

timtam23 · 18/01/2021 22:13

Weleda Skin Food in large amounts at night under cotton gloves as mentioned up thread. I've also used vaseline, pawpaw ointment, Neutrogena Norwegian formula, it's the cotton gloves overnight that seem to make the difference. I have a tube of Crabtree & Evelyn moisturising hand scrub which is fantastic (it leaves hands really soft and smooth) but it doesn't seem to be sold any more, L'Occitane do a One- minute Hand Scrub which looks very similar (exfoliating & with shea butter, rinse off for exfoliated soft hands)

Frestba · 18/01/2021 22:15

This is good for hands
