Head lice

Ok i know not nicest of chats but struggling to get rid of the wee buggers on my DD head. 3rd time now in the space of a couple of weeks. Tried 2 times with Boots own brand which comes with white plastic comb & got loads of them but after a few days still scratching again. Tried again today with Lyclear brand and metal comb but doubt i got them all. Just seen her scratching on the way past 🤦‍♀️! Shes got long, dark, thick hair so finding it an impossible task. Don't want to destroy her hair with these bloody combs neither as her hair breaks easily. Any suggestions?

The life cycle lasts up to 3 weeks so you should comb through every few days for 3 weeks or if using treatments you should repeat them weekly for 3 weeks. The treatments aren't good at killing the eggs so you will get hatchlings to deal with too and that's why you need to keep going until you catch them all

Ps I've been changing towels & bedlinen regularly & make sure I change pillowcase after treatment. Also been washing hats etc as I know they can spead like this too. Its very frustrating & time time consuming to boot!

A week is not enough to catch the hatchlings. Every few days for 3 weeks would be more effective

You need a nitty gritty comb, not the one you get with the lotion. They are really good at clearing the head.

Hedrin then alternating wet combing with nitty gritty and dry combing with a plastic come every day for three weeks.

Yeah, you're right. It's been a year since my DD had them but I couldn't believe how difficult it was. Tried all different shampoos and rinses and the combing was the only thing that worked. I knew I was doing it every day for ages, couldn't remember how long for. Was actually probably about 2 /3 until I got them all.

Make sure you take away cuddly toys and rotate pillows.

Very thorough wet combing with normal shampoo or conditioner every 3 days for 3 weeks with nitty gritty comb. Sat in front of cartoons. Kinder egg bribery.

We had a nightmare getting mid of nits last year, my daughter has thick waist length hair. I don't rate the nitty gritty comb, we did better with a cheap plastic one. Potionwise I highly recommend Nitwits available on Amazon. It tackles the lice and the eggs and the bottle goes much further than the other brands do as it's a spray.

Nhs says comb on days 1, 5, 9 and 13 and then check on day 17

And says no need to wash everything. That's more for worms than lice

I did run straighteners through a few times too but you can't get into the roots fully so it's only useful in conjunction with combing

Lot of long and bitter experience with this you need a silicone based lotion, it suffocates the little buggers unlike some that are chemical so they can adapt no one can adapt from.not being able to breathe! Then comb every three days but every day if you have a patience and I now retreat on the 5/7th day as even with regular combing one will alway find a hiding place. In fact sometimes I've done a third treatment as well as got so many on the 2nd one.

I did a post about this a while ago as after the first lockdown DD caught them literally the first time we went and saw someone 🤦‍♀️

I'm afraid it won't help. I once had the genius idea of shaving DS's hair super short. But his hair was still crawling. They stay SO close to the scalp that you won't get them with irons.

Normal conditioner and a lice comb. Comb through every 2 days or so for the next 2 weeks.

@Kaza40s get some gold listerine the one with alcohol soak the hair cover with a shower cap and leave for 90 mins and wash out. Repeat in7 days. You can come dead lice out but you don’t need to . It doesn’t kill the eggs but they will be killed in 7 days as nymph life that are too immature to lay eggs. It definitely works I had tried everything before I used listerine.

I sit (long haired) DSes on the floor watching a film, then sit behind them with a bottle of conditioner and go through it layer by layer. Time consuming but necessary.

God I feel for you! I was battling for a year and a half with them! Nitty Gritty comb and tea tree oil conditioner every day at first, then every second day and so on...I used Hedrin in between when I could and thankfully lockdowns came and I was able to get rid of them. Im dreading them going back to school for this reason
