Ok i know not nicest of chats but struggling to get rid of the wee buggers on my DD head. 3rd time now in the space of a couple of weeks. Tried 2 times with Boots own brand which comes with white plastic comb & got loads of them but after a few days still scratching again. Tried again today with Lyclear brand and metal comb but doubt i got them all. Just seen her scratching on the way past 🤦‍♀️! Shes got long, dark, thick hair so finding it an impossible task. Don't want to destroy her hair with these bloody combs neither as her hair breaks easily. Any suggestions?

Hedrin, then nitty gritty and conditioner every Friday after school.

Spray on conditioner - every 3 days max. We used an Aussie hair conditioner. Only thing that worked on DD with thick wavy hair

My dd has eczema and the nit lotions aggravate it so I’ve always used a bottle of cheap conditioner & a nitty gritty comb. Cover hair in conditioner segregated it and comb thru each section, you need to do this every other day for 2 weeks but I’ve always found it clears an infestation. I then would repeat weekly on a Sunday when she was at primary.

You have my sympathies. A whole year when DC was 5 and parents were not notifying the teacher of infestations so as soon as we were clear it started all over again !
The nitty gritty comb and conditioner. Just bought a 1pound bottle and used it for combing. I used Hedrin initially then again 10 days later but it was the regular combing with conditioner that was lifesaving.

I remember nits! I used nit lotion and combed through DSs hair every night. I also used tea tree oil. Eventually children stop getting them

It's persistence that pays off.
I have never used lice shampoos.
Nitty gritty, cheap conditioner, and make a sport out of it.

FictionalCharacter · 15/04/2021 19:09

Plenty of leave-in conditioner and whichever nit comb is best on her hair.
When I caught the horrors off dd I did the same on my own hair, and also put lots of “stuff” on it - mousse, hairspray, the works. Stuff like that seems to clear them better than anything. We hated Lyclear, it didn’t work well at all.

I put coconut oil on mine. Wrapped head up and left it for hours. Then combed through. It was the only thing that finally got rid.

I always found treating once a week for 3 weeks the most effective.

H1978 · 15/04/2021 20:06

We had this with 2 dds last year, it’s repetitive and frustrating but you have to comb every night for 3 weeks. It’s the only way to completely get rid of them. Both my dds have hip length hair, it was a nightmare 😳

Coat your hair in warm olive oil, wrap in a towel and leave overnight, comb really thoroughly before washing. I think the oil suffocates the lice and is easier to comb hair when it's slippery. Repeat at least weekly until all gone.
