What do you do when listening to podcasts?

Random musing for a Saturday evening but podcasts - how/ when do you listen to them ?

I have several I'd like to hear but I can't quite fathom how it works - do I sit on the sofa and listen to them instead of watching tv? That feels weird to me because do I just sit still staring into space?

In bed ? In the bath ?

DuzzyFuck · 16/01/2021 23:41

Not to give away how much of a crime weirdo I am @Imagiraffe but here's just a few true crime podcasts to Google;

Casefile
Redhanded
True Crime Guys
Crime Junkie
Mens Rea
UK True Crime
Seeing Red
True Crime Garage
Morbid
It's Murder Up North
True Crime Enthusiast

On other subjects the BBC produce a lot of good content in terms of documentaries. BBC sounds is the place.

I use the Apple podcasts app and BBC Sounds. BBC have got some great ones, plus back catalogues of things like Desert Island Discs. I do have Spotify but was using both the others before I had it so I've never really thought to try it.

I have them playing all night, they have pretty much solved my racing mind and I can sleep all through the night for the first time in years!

InvisibleMoonDancer · 17/01/2021 01:04

I listen to them when I'm cooking or cleaning.

BarbaraofSeville · 17/01/2021 05:26

BBC sounds is awful, especially if you listen to series, as it mucks up the order.

I tried a few and ended up with Antenna Pod, for reasons that I can't remember.

I used to listen while commuting and travelling for work, but I don't really do either of those at the moment, but I listen while walking, some housework, cooking and during any time I'm in the car on my own.

I like radio 4 comedies, documentaries, food programmes, older and wider with Jenni Eclair, scummy mummies, fortunately with Fi and Jane, all sorts really.

@DuzzyFuck, you should look up Bad People with Sofie Hagen, that's a great true crime one.

Cooking, walking, long train/plane journeys to give a break from reading/watching films

TeenPlusTwenties · 17/01/2021 12:39

Ironing, cooking.
Waiting at DD's counselling session.

lljkk · 17/01/2021 12:46

Waiting to sleep.
Very occasionally while doing a jigsaw puzzle.

@BarbaraofSeville Thanks! Smile

I use the Entale app so I like to concentrate. Spent an hour outside the dentists waiting for DS2 on Friday so listened to one then. On this particular one using Entale as they mentioned something it came up with links so you can see what they are talking about.

Bakedpotatoandgin · 17/01/2021 12:55

Whilst cleaning the bathroom usually, or when I'm pottering about getting ready for bed/ getting up and out in the morning (obviously not atm). I like ones with the same structure every episode, so I can think eg. when I hear that jingle, I need to have finished breakfast and start finding my shoes and coat.

CalmConfident · 17/01/2021 12:56

Ironing with something from BBC sounds plus a cup of tea. It has transformed a dull chore to a treat.

I'm surprised you've found that, I listen to BBC sounds for hours every week and I've never found it plays out of order.

I subscribe to all the things I like, do you have it set up like that, and it starts playing the next one after the end of the previous one.

OP - you can literally listen to a podcast anywhere, do you never listen to the radio or music?

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 17/01/2021 17:55

Usually when I am walking or running. When marathon training they were a brilliant way to distract myself from the boredom!

Sometimes I listen to therm as I clean the house, or in the bath
