I'm a twat - Pembrokeshire Murders

I was watching The Pembrokeshire Murders and thought the descriptive narration was quite sinister adding to the tension of the storyline. I mentioned this to my partner who was working away after I telephoned him after the episodes.

Fast forward to today and my partner comes home, puts on the tv and then he asked me what buttons I'd pressed on the remote control because I'd managed to enable the description service for vision impaired people.

I've been telling everyone about the voice over on the programme and I've even tried to Google who is the narrator on the programme, and obviously failing and no one asked me what the hell I was on about because they didn't hear it. Blush

LOL. Maybe you should try other programmes with it on ;)

😂

Walkacrossthesand · 16/01/2021 17:59

Yep, I've done that too - wondered why there's suddenly a disembodied voice describing what I can see, and found that I've accidentally pressed 'AD' (audio described)! It's very... hushed tones, isn't it!

TroysMammy · 16/01/2021 18:00

He was watching Big Bang Theory when he realised. I very rarely watch tv but wanted to see Pembrokeshire Murders so I must have been playing with the remote like it was an accordion. I'm obviously not a responsible adult to be allowed near technology Grin

I’ve done this too in the past and it’s taken me a good while to realise there’s not just a voiceover in the programmme 😂

SendMeHome · 16/01/2021 18:02

Ahahahahahaha.

Ah OP, what a creepy program to make that mistake on! Grin

TroysMammy · 16/01/2021 18:02

I've just found the AD button.

It's a bit like you're watching TV with David Attenborough in the room.

TroysMammy · 16/01/2021 18:15

In my defence it was a soft but menacing Welsh accent, low but not rich like Richard Burton but someone from where he was born which is not too far away from me.

OMG the remote is switching itself to audio description and he can't blame me because I'm in a different room Grin .

.... I've done this before....

Bunnyrun5 · 16/01/2021 18:21

TroysMammy I think you’re wonderful!
For two reasons not taking yourself too seriously and secondly making me smile and feel better about myself as I do things like that quite often! Thank you

Lettertoyou · 16/01/2021 18:21

I did that once and it took me ages to work out what was going on.

oakleaffy · 16/01/2021 18:27

Oh goodness!
I did this , the bloody description!
It drove me mad..
“ Charles walked over and picked up a glass, unscrewed the whisky and poured himself a shot, downing it with a grimace “

And every programme had it on, even rebooting telly.
A friend sorted it in the end.

Infuriating though.- but understand it’s use for visually impaired viewers.

hollyandkit · 16/01/2021 18:28

My friend did this and sent a ranty email to ITV who emailed back and told her she'd pressed the AD button!

oakleaffy · 16/01/2021 18:30

Yes!😂

I was like
What the HECK is happening with the TV?

SunshineandShudders · 16/01/2021 18:32

Is it worth watching?

samanthawashington · 16/01/2021 18:33

Dumbass! 😂😂😂😂

My mum got the Good Omens DVD for Christmas and we watched it over the holiday, all was normal and then the voice of God changed to the voice of another woman narrating what was on the screen. I was quite confused as to who this other woman was and thought 'blimey I know it's an adaptation of a book but do we really need a narrator all the way through?'

It was through the unbelievably long credits sequence, as all the names of the actors were read out along with a running commentary on what was happening in the animation that I twigged something was up.

We had to take the DVD out and put it back in again - there was a moment right at the beginning that said 'if you want audio description press enter now' - and my mum, who hadn't actually listened to what was being said, had just done as it told her.

It's funny the way the description does sort of sneak up on you and it takes a while to notice something weird is happening. But it isn't obviously 'wrong' right away.

NannyGythaOgg · 16/01/2021 18:38

If any of you watch 'Naked Attraction', the audio description makes it even funnier. Grin - so I've been told

Notmydaughteryoubitch · 16/01/2021 18:38

My DSD did the same when watching Normal People, she was really surprised when I was watching an episode and she was asking where the narrator was!!

ParisJeTAime · 16/01/2021 18:39

I've had this! Took me a little while to figure it out what in the actual fuck was going on.

Bunnybigears · 16/01/2021 18:42

My cat stood on my remote control and now we can't watch BBC2 without the audio desctiption.

ClashCityRocker · 16/01/2021 18:47

One night I came home after several drinks and stuck the telly on.

Thought 'jesus, I'm way more pissed than I ought to be! Maybe my drink has been spiked?!'

Messaged a friend who lived in the same block, who duly came round to check on me.

I explained earnestly that the people on the telly were speaking gobbledegook to my ears, and I hadn't drank enough for that.

Turns out I had sat on the remote and changed the channel to S4C, and was watching a soap opera in Welsh.

So I have sympathy, op.
