DFS, what if my sofa doesn't fit?

Silly I know but I have ordered new sofas online and they are due to be delivered in 4 weeks, just waiting for them to contact me to arrange it. After a 4 month wait I have suddenly become very nervous in case they don't fit in my house 🙄

So if they don't, will I get a refund or am I going to have to pick another sofa that I don't want??

Lighthearted...

"Just take the glass out. It's not hard

I'm not being rude ^ that was rude.

It's not hard to take the glass out. How's that rude?!

'Just take the glass out. It's not hard' - it's how you said it. Oh, and the fact that I already said that wasn't an option.

Don't do it if you don't want to but then you mightn't fit the sofa in

Erm: yes. That is the whole point of my light fucking hearted thread. It was a bit hahaha am I going to have to pick a shit sofa. That was all."

Ok Confused

@Foobydoo

I have had this happen twice🙈 The first time the delivery men were horrid. Shouted at me when I was heavily pregnant and made me cry. They took the sofas back and the company refunded me less a fee of around £60-80. It wasn't dfs though it was a local leather sofa company. The second time the delivery men were fab and took my window out at my risk. I understand why you don't want to do this though. I get the heeby geebies occasionally when I think of how we will ever remove the sofa. Buying a new sofa is actually quite traumatic now. I don't know why you can't have them delivered in parts.

Once they are in I'm never taking them out, sofas for life Grin

The ones we have now are big recliners but they did get delivered with the backs off them!

I saw quite a few when I was looking that came in parts but they weren't quite right iykwim

This! We bought a sofa from dfs recently, what a palaver. We wanted a four seater but they spent so long cautioning us about the fit and getting it into the house that we lost confidence. They asked us to send photos and measurements. We did: they then said they couldn't advise either way. Ffs, they are the sofa experts and some advice was all that was needed! It was maddening. Also couldn't ever get hold of them on the phone so had to keep driving back to the shop to get an answer. When I finally ordered (the three seater) the store manager looked at me and said something patronising like 'there now, that wasn't so hard after all, was it?'

I am still pretty sure the four seater would have fit no problem, but it was clear that the responsibility was all on me and I am risk averse! I hope your sofa fits OP - if your doors etc are standard I think you'll be fine. On some of them the arms do come off, too.

Yeah, it’s a dilemma. I live in a first floor flat, thankfully I have a balcony. So when Laura Ashley delivered my sofa which wouldn’t go up my stairs, my dad was able to gather enough pals so that they could stand in my downstairs neighbours patio and lift it over my balcony and through my patio doors.

The settees we measured to fit perfectly in the living room apparently wouldn't fit through the front door. Not quite sure how the delivery guys worked that one out when they never even took them off the back of the truck. I lost a days pay for that and they insisted on still being paid the £50 delivery fee they were told to get lost. I rang land of leather to complain and they arranged for another company to deliver the settees the following week (thank god we hadn't gotten round to getting rid of the old one) this time the settees came off the back of the truck, they wrapped them in what looked like sleeping bags and put belts all the way around them and pulled them as tight as they'd go. Both came through the front door no problem. They wouldn't even take the delivery fee off us. The next settee we got was a recliner and that just came through in sections and put together properly once it was in position. The first lot of delivery men tried to get us to have our window taken out. The second lot said it would've been a complete waste of money doing so when we really didn't need to

Oh I know this feeling. I ordered a lot of new furniture over the summer because we moved into a weirdly shaped flat and the old stuff didn't fit.

I ordered one armchair and knew it would be a tight fit and worries about it for months. Then when the delivery men came it got stuck in the staircase and it took four of them to get it in to the room. I was terrified they'd have to cut it up. I almost cried.

chesterfuckingdraws · 15/01/2021 01:26

I could have written the same post. We ordered sofas in September and they're due to arrive on Monday.....since I got the phonecall confirming delivery I'm really worried they won't fit!

I'm sure they will and I'm worrying unnecessarily but I'll find out on Monday.

@smoothchange - I ordered my sofas on the 21st of August and they were finally due to be delivered 23rd of December. DFS have had many problems so they sent some subcontractors to deliver my sofas. They couldn’t get my sofa in past the front door (corner sofa so the corner part was just too big) and damaged the wall in process and took the sofa back.

DFS have a two attempt policy. I spoke to the manager at my local store and insisted they send actual DFS delivery people as they have experience with sofa deliveries and getting them in. They came on the 29th for the second time and sent 3 men this time. My sofas are in.

If after the second attempt the sofas still aren’t able to get in or don’t fit the room etc, DFS allow you to either have the sofa ordered again but in more pieces (I ordered it so there would be two parts to assemble but there is also the option for 3 I think). Or they will let you pick a sofa from display instead. The manager said this is usually at a further cost but they will waver it in some circumstances.

Hope you get them in x

God knows, but DH's mate had the same issue, and also had to have the windows removed. Worked out fine, no damage done. it was literally the only way to do it.

HalfSizeMe · 15/01/2021 02:22

Thanks for this. I started wondering how they took windows out, so decided to Google it. Then I remembered that the window in the spare bedroom doesn't open so googled that, watched a few YouTube videos, and now I'm confident I can fix it tomorrow.
