Anyone else's DC having the same lunch EVERY day?

Every single day, they want the same things - beans and toast for DS, eggs on toast for DD. I don't really mind, as neither are particularly unhealthy choices (we use the low salt, no added sugar beans) and they always have fruit afterwards, but Jesus, don't they get bored?

Actually, now I think about that, they always have the same breakfast too. Dinner is the only varied meal, and that's because I choose it.

Yes, I know this is a boring thread. It's a boring time!

15yo DS eats a cheese toastie for dinner every day.

His favourite tea is a breaded spicy chicken steak (frozen kind), 3 waffles and cheese in a sandwich with sweet corn on the side.

He gets annoyed if I cook normal food. He’d happily eat that every day.

Scarby9 · 12/01/2021 17:21

At a friend's parents' Diamond Wedding it was revealed that the husband had had a cheese and marmite sandwich before bed every night of their married life.
Some people like familiarity!

3JsMa · 12/01/2021 17:36

Same here, breakfast is usually cereal (although my 7 year old just reminded me about couscous with milk, yes I can assure anyone that this combination is quite palatable).
Lunch is usually roll/bread with ham/cheese/pate/chorizo etc with toms, cucumber, olives, pickled garlic (again 7yo DS is absolute fan of weird tastes). So yeah, basically all the same and if I dont have usual stuff they are not particularly upset.I wish I could make it more varied but it's not easy at the moment.

Count yourself lucky! Trying to figure out what to make for breakfast, lunch and dinner for a picky child is driving me nuts. I'd be more than happy if my DD would eat the same thing for lunch daily.:)
GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 12/01/2021 17:52

Oh it's definitely not a problem, and our evening meals are quite varied, I'm just surprised they don't get bored with it.

Mind you, I suppose my lunches aren't all that varied.

Yeah we are the same - 2 year old DS would merrily eat a 2 egg spinach omelette every day

LegoAndLolDolls · 12/01/2021 17:59

Your lucky, can we swop? I asked my ds what he wanted and he wanted a meal deal from Tesco! I got him one as he also said he needed sunflower seeds for his homework which meant a pointless non essential trip was needed anyway.

QueenPawPaws · 12/01/2021 17:59

I often eat the same lunch for weeks/months
Once it was feta salad, once a bbq chicken wrap. This week I'm having tuna with cous cous every day, next week will probably be cheese and ham salad sandwiches Grin

Whoateallthechocolate · 12/01/2021 18:04

My DC have the same thing in their packed lunch every single day and, after trying to introduce some variety in lockdown#1, they now have that same thing for lunch every day at home too. If DD is feeling daring, she'll ask if she can put her cheese sandwich in the toastie maker but otherwise it's always the same. I've given up trying to persuade them otherwise and, if I know I have a busy day ahead, make their lunch up the the night before and put it in their lunchbox just as if they were going to school! Meanwhile, I'm working my way through a variety of soups, salads and and things on toast.

Aquamarine1029 · 12/01/2021 18:07

My mum told me that when I was 4, I would only have a cheese, mustard and mayo sandwich for lunch. That's it. I would eat anything for breakfast and dinner so she wasn't bothered about it. This phase lasted for about 6 months.

Scaredykittycat · 12/01/2021 18:09

I have the same breakfast every day. And rotate the same couple of lunches. If you like it, why not?

EttaKett · 12/01/2021 18:10

Mine are 17+. All pretence at interesting eating has gone out of the window, and it is cheese toasties every single lunchtime.

Lockdownshmockdown · 12/01/2021 18:16

I'm terrible for this myself. I have a varied diet and I'm not particularly fussy, but I often eat things until I ruin them for myself. I'll maybe go 6 weeks straight of porridge for breakfast every single day done a certain way and then sicken myself of it and not have it again for weeks on end. Then I'll move onto 6 weeks of something else that I'll sicken myself of.

I've done this with so many foods. Then I'll remember and go "oh yeh I like that" and start all over again. And so the cycle continues.

mum2jakie · 12/01/2021 18:16

To be honest, my kids have the same thing in their school lunches every day. They are actually getting a little more variety at home.

Pugliandreamer · 12/01/2021 18:17

My nightmare. I can do about two days on the trot and that's it! Even making dinners I hate doing a repeat in the same month. Makes finding and planning a nightmare. My DH would happily eat the same thing for every meal for a month and then rotate onto the next "in" flavour Grin

LizFlowers · 12/01/2021 18:20

Many children like what is familiar. i remember when mine was at school and wanted to take packed lunches as opposed to having 'school dinners', I prepared the same thing every day except for varying the fruit. I used to think how boring it must be but at least it was food. At home, lunches (weekends and holidays), and dinners varied from day to day.

MrsGrindah · 12/01/2021 18:24

I could do this to be honest. If left to my own devices it would be egg on toast for breakfast and a cheese sarnie for lunch every day.

LuckyAmy1986 · 12/01/2021 18:30

It’s like a restaurant in this house at the moment with everyone giving me orders, the three year old is the worst, I’m finding it hard to shop because they know what they want that day and nothing else will do. The same lunch everyday would be a luxury for this chef
Jeez mine just get what they are given! Grin

My mum does this! She goes through what she calls "crazes" for things, and eats them repeatedly till she puts herself off them.

My dh does this, soup for lunch everyday followed by 5 different pieces of fruit. The kids thankfully like variety. Some people are just creatures of habit.

AMR3 · 12/01/2021 19:03

Yep. DD8 and DS6 will have a “lunchbox” lunch every single bloody day. Sandwich thin with ham/protein, cheese cubes, veg sticks, fruit, yogurt and a treat of some sort. Suggest something different and they’ll have something like eggs/beans on toast or jacket potato. But I’d say 9/10 lunches are a “lunchbox” lunch.

MrDinklesOhSnap · 12/01/2021 19:11

Wraps. Every. Single. Day.

Thank god they are versatile and you can hide vegetables in them. I honestly think she’d eat sawdust if it was rolled up in a wrap with mayo.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 12/01/2021 19:15

I once went through a honey dew melon phase. I had it for breakfast and lunch for 8 years. My shopping was very heavy!

Witchend · 12/01/2021 19:25

My dc tend to have the same lunch every day. Not only that, but dh still has most days the same lunch he used to make for himself for school.
Cheese sandwich with a bit of salad
Apple
Cake or yoghurt.

As he's wfh he occasionally branches out with soup... and cheese sandwich...
I think he's been having the same meal daily for 30 years or more now!

MustardMitt · 12/01/2021 19:26

I thought that was normal! When I was a kid it was cream cheese sandwiches, now mine have ham sandwiches 🥪
