The saga continues to continue with more sequels than a trilogy of trilogies...

I can't find anything to watch now I'm avoiding "standard" telly - by the time I've gone through amazon, netflix and apple (we have apple one which is the only reason we have apple tv+) I just think fuck it and go to bed.

Lifeinaonesie · 15/01/2021 20:48

@AcornAutumn I don't watch much. Ibput kids to bed at 7 and then work 7 until I drop every night of the week to try and get work done around homeschool, but dh has TV on in the background and I've noticed the terrestrial channels are a lot worse. All daytime TV pushed to prime time.

TheOrchidKiller · 15/01/2021 20:52

On the pack its says........dont expose to rain or snow.
We're supposed to don PPE prior to entering a patient's home. I try to get it all on as instructed, and as discretely as possible ("Ooh, no 16's got The Plague Doctor going in again"). Whoever advised it has never had to wrestle a plastic pinny on in a gale, or watch the rain running down a visor, all whilst attempting to peer through a letter box because the patient hasn't answered the door & might be lying at the foot of the stairs....

I'm thinking I might have a look at the Buzzin' with Bez fitness videos on youtube this Sunday. Mind you, I assumed it was just larking about with marraccas but the trailer looks like proper PE With Joe levels of exercise, so I'm not sure now.

Wishfulthinking1977 · 15/01/2021 21:17

The blame game is rife where I live at the moment! We have had some positive tests and some people are poorly dh included and the local fb pages are pointing fingers profusely at a local restaurant! It's appalling! The biggest culprit is a leader of a supposed support network who has refused help to anyone who had used the premises during the tier system! I am truly disgusted in the vitirol that is coming out in my small town and I will certainly never speak to some people ever again!! Xx

smallandimperfectlyformed · 15/01/2021 21:24

Oh no wishful thinking that is horrible about the leader of the support network. If it is part of a national organisation perhaps they should be reported as help shouldn't be offered only to the deserving (this is something I have massively struggled with during the reporting of victims of the disease...almost gleeful when covid deniers become unwell and repentant and then falling over themselves to say how other people were heroes and followed the rules 100% etc.). I didn't reaIise quite how nasty some people could be before this! I hope your DH feels better soon.

I used to have a flatmate who did background TV.

Drove me mad.

If I want to watch something, I want to watch it. I only have streaming TV. The licence gets you shite and the covid propaganda was the last straw.

Wishfulthinking1977 · 15/01/2021 21:49

@smallandimperfectlyformed thankyou for your kind words! He is getting there very slowly, it's definitely the worst I've ever seen him, but in fairness he is never ill! We have been screwed over by the financial support as we did the right thing and isolated from the time we were in contact and get 0 help as he was earning too much before! I was also shocked by the lack of interest from our surgery who basically just kept repeating get a test and drink! The test and trace lady was much more helpful and did seem grateful that he spoke to her without getting nasty! As far as the other people go, it's a small town and we have long memories!! 😂😂 Xx

AcornAutumn · 15/01/2021 21:51

Wishful GPs have been completely omitted from this. I hope he feels better soon.

My star sign for next week tells me to do nothing. Obviously I can't literally do nothing but I think it's good advice, sometimes the time goes faster when you do nothing.

Wishfulthinking1977 · 15/01/2021 22:09

@AcornAutumn thankyou 😊 I really didn't realise that, We haven't actually been near our Dr's for several years and 111 had a massive wait so I suppose given how serious its supposed to be I was expecting a bit more advice? I just felt pressurised into getting a test or they wouldn't deal with him? Perhaps I'm over analysing it! Must be cabin fever!! 😂😂 Xx

AcornAutumn · 15/01/2021 22:17

Wishful no, they have been omitted deliberately IMHO. tests administered by private companies to get the funds.

In previous days, with a highly infectious disease you would be under the care of your GP, even if just via telephone, and give your close contact info to them.

There are still friends of my father around who did home visits during the 1968 flu pandemic. You didn't want patients bringing it to the surgery but if you thought they might have a secondary infection and need meds, as a GP, you'd do a home visit.

AcornAutumn · 15/01/2021 22:20

wishful actually if you don't mind me asking, how poorly is he?

You mention how serious it's meant to be but don't forget, Shitty Whitty himself said it will be mild for most. So hopefully both of you aren't too anxious.

Wishfulthinking1977 · 15/01/2021 22:25

@AcornAutumn Ahh I see what you mean and agree completely! My dm caught the 1968 virus and has told me she couldn't move for 2 weeks (as a young woman) and it took her several weeks to get back to normal! Funny how these situations aren't mentioned now even though our treatments have improved vastly! Xx

bakingcupcakes · 15/01/2021 22:32

@Weedsnseeds1 I think part of the problem with lack of appointment availability is that opticians were put to emergency appointments only for the first lockdown which was over 2 months so no one was referred on for anything and anyone who'd been referred before the first lockdown and had their appointment booked for april/may time with the hospital would have had it cancelled. My guess is they'll still be dealing with the backlog of people from then.

Wishfulthinking1977 · 15/01/2021 22:32

@AcornAutumn he slept constantly for about 48hrs, he was burning up at night, fever broke a couple of days ago, hasn't eaten in a week, blood oxygen levels (according to a home monitor were going down to about 84%) now just bad headaches, bit of a cough and just weak from not eating and tired, pretty much what I would expect from flu? We did call the Dr's when he was at his worst but again just told to test!! Xx

Weedsnseeds1 · 16/01/2021 06:48

Thanks, bakingcupcakes that makes sense, unfortunately!

Weeds What I think is quite terrifying is that this lack of appointments will be being repeated across the entire non covid related health care system. Someone I work with has been waiting for a knee op that should have happened in March and is gradually becoming more disabled as each subsequent appointment has been postponed. My mum should have had a scan by urology in July (having been referred last January) but that was cancelled. She's meant to have it in February now but is frightened of going to the hospital. I know there isn't much else the hospitals could do but the fall out from all these things is going to be massive.
chocolatesweets · 16/01/2021 08:28

Checking in.

Iheartmysmart · 16/01/2021 09:02

I’m sure I saw an article in one of the papers yesterday which gave the number of how many people are now waiting for hospital appointments and routine operations. Typically I can’t find it again but it was a very scary figure. The NHS is going to be playing catch up for the foreseeable future.

Buzzinwithbez · 16/01/2021 09:09

Both me and my husband went to the supermarket two days ago.
I'd had a panic attack earlier and abandoned my trip in tears, so one of us had to go back for food. It made sense for that to be him but for me to go so it didn't feel even harder the next time I tried.
I had never had a panic attack prior to April and now seemingly need a lanyard as a symbol of a hidden disability I never knew I had? for something that's been caused by this crazy situation.

I must remember my ear pods as I think it was the constant new announcements about the virus that did contributed.

ISaySteadyOn · 16/01/2021 09:19

Flowers I can relate. This situation is bizarre. All to protect an institution that doesn't seem to really want to help. And just to be clear, I am not referring to the individuals within it who work hard and really care but the institution as a whole.

BogRollBOGOF · 16/01/2021 09:46

DM hasn't had her surgery that was cancelled at the last moment from Oct 2019, and is now on a waiting list for another that arose this time last year.

Save the NHS: keep the economy functioning and funding it.

ISaySteadyOn · 16/01/2021 09:55

Exactly. And it is v wet here in London.

ISaySteadyOn · 16/01/2021 09:56

Which has nothing to do with anything.

TabbyStar · 16/01/2021 10:15

200,000 waiting last I saw. Three must be lots of us putting off screening too, there's no way I'm having a smear test wearing a mask.

My GP has actually been excellent throughout though, DD and I have both got appointments when we've needed them, including face to face.

I'm v anxious today and overwhelmed. My heart's been pounding all night so I've not slept much. I've not earned anything so far this year, DD's mental health is bad, she wants to travel to see her boyfriend, which I don't think is a great idea but she's so low and isn't really eating properly so I'm really worried about her, and DM had another emergency admission to hospital this week. It's not helped that the weather is shit. I'm supposed to be walking with a friend later if it stops raining but he's a bit of a D so I don't know if it's a good idea.
