The saga continues to continue with more sequels than a trilogy of trilogies...

@CruCru

Supermarkets attract crazy people, even when things were usual. My Mum worked at the Sainsbury's in the centre of town and they had a whole list of banned people. There was the man who stank (not just smelled a bit, it was like he rolled in fox poo), the woman who did a shit in the toilet paper aisle and the elderly couple who would repeatedly buy a joint of meat and leave it out until it stank then bring it back to complain and get a refund.

I bet that customer was one of those. And I bet the manager has met her before. They remember the crazy ones.

We've banned a few people, not enough in my opinion but hey ho. People are definitely batshit at the best of times, now is not the best of times! If I had a pound every time I had to remind people to not lean round the screen, please stand on the spot where you're supposed to, pull your mask up etc I'd be rolling in it. Thank god I'm off work for a while now.

@2020BogOff Absolutely right. I didn’t have the sad experience of Livin, but was with my Nan when she died and lost quite a few friends during school, some in a horrible car crash which I walked away from. Was also abroad during a period of civil unrest as a child and remember armed soldiers coming through our village indiscriminately shooting people. It does tend to give you more of a perspective if you’ve experienced things like this.

ISaySteadyOn · 15/01/2021 15:03

I don't go in supermarkets anymore. I know I would inadvertently break rules and be yelled at and with new mask enforcement it would be even worse.

It's amazing how many normal activities I used to do are now sources of near panic attacks.

AcornAutumn · 15/01/2021 15:14

2020 - that's why I said only pneumonia was a valid comparison. Of the list given, that's the only infectious disease.

BogRollBOGOF · 15/01/2021 15:19

I'm getting more panicky in the supermarket. No obvious reason. It's quiet and no one has bothered me. But my visor is bothering me more. This week it was my breath tickling my face and I've ended up scratching it raw and I now have delightful scabs on my face where I've scratched my own skin off. I ended up taking it off by the self checkout because I could feel my temperature rising and hit minimal clothes and panting mode, but not full hyperventilating. Naturally the self checkout needed staff assistance at some point (why does it always do that?) and the staff member asked if I was OK. I said that I was just reaching my overload limit.
I'm not generally anxious beyond normal life stuff like interviews or life being topsy turvey, and I don't like the way my behaviour is showing signs of distress. I think it is more a manifestation of life's rhythms being so fucked up and intruded upon. It's not healthy if I retreat from the world any more than is necessary though.

Bog "I think it is more a manifestation of life's rhythms being so fucked up and intruded upon."

It is.

Could you go at a quieter time? The 9pm Aldi run is now very quiet.

ISaySteadyOn · 15/01/2021 15:36

I have had to withdraw from normal activities to take care of the DC to the exclusion of all else. I used to shop during the day when they were at school but school made it very clear that they are unwanted so I have to keep them from fighting and try to give them an education as well.

But today is a bad day.

BogRollBOGOF · 15/01/2021 15:37

I already go around then. Social distancing is a non-issue at that time, I get most aisles to myself or one other person. I started going late when the hours went back to normal around May to avoid queues.

I went into an Aldi in passing mid-morning back around September and it was weird being at a normal level of busyness and not sure what the ettiquette was any more Grin

The weather is grim which never helps.

DS2 didn't go on his online session just now because of having dispute over the remote control.

It's been a fucking long week.

I have long hair and inevitably find a hair has got trapped under the mask. I see to notice it at the mid way point of any supermarket trip, then by the 3/4 point can stand it no longer and have to surreptitiously gouge under my mask trying to remove it.

Weedsnseeds1 · 15/01/2021 17:14

I had an eye test a couple of weeks ago and was referred to the eye hospital for potential glaucoma. Got my referral letter this afternoon. Have to book on to a system to book an appointment.
Of the two hospitals and two clinics offered, none of them have any appointments. Not, there are a few appointments, but the timings are awkward for me, just a statement for each "this clinic has no appointments".
Is this normal or is there a glitch in the system?

110APiccadilly · 15/01/2021 17:17

I went shopping the other day with DD in a sling, only to find that the mask hindered just that bit of peripheral downward vision I needed for looking down and checking she was ok (she invariably falls asleep in the sling and I like to be able to look down and check nose and mouth unobstructed and so on).

OH went to Tesco had to queue outside a couple in front of them with one trolley the lady said they could not both go in with one trolley, the man got stroppy stormed off grabbed a trolley said satisfied to the staff member and strode off with his wife. OH was so shocked at the nastiness said sorry to the staff member, she said not to worry the manager would watch them and both trollies had better be full or else.

Aren`t people entitled. It does spoil it for those who need help with the shopping because of infirmity or mental health issues. Our local co-op knows most of their customers and make allowances for the frail.

Weedsnseeds1 · 15/01/2021 17:18

Going down stairs in s mask is a nightmare!

WouldBeGood · 15/01/2021 17:20

I agree with that @Weedsnseeds1!

AcornAutumn · 15/01/2021 17:21

just or else what? Next time they'll just go in separately. Bloody awful shops are behaving like this.

weeds i pull my mask down when I have to use steps on the Underground. No point having an accident.

I don't really blame him. I might not have said Satisfied but I'm so fucking tired of all these increasingly ridiculous rules and as someone who often needs help to shop due to various disabilities I really don't feel like having to constantly explain myself. I'm not ashamed of having disabilities but neither do I care to share the details with every nosy fucker around.

justasking111 · 15/01/2021 17:22

Was bending down in a farm shop today and standing up again, between fogged up glasses, mask slipping, it was weird and I went a bit dizzy. Coming down the steps from the car park was horrible too. I am half blind with a mask on I tried varifocals once but failed with those .

AllPlayedOut · 15/01/2021 17:24

And no I'm not doing bloody online shopping and no I don't want someone to shop for me. I value my independence and I need to go out for my mental health, difficult as it can be.

justasking111 · 15/01/2021 17:24

I went to farm shop today, spent more on food than I would in a normal supermarket but they have lovely gourmet foods. I bought a guinea fowl, gluten free pasta, some lovely bakery cakes and other bits. Was silly money at the checkout but I really do not bloody care, apart from the hospital and Lidl on Tuesday have not been out for a week.

AcornAutumn · 15/01/2021 17:25

Yes, I go quite often because there's nowhere to go otherwise.
Iheartmysmart · 15/01/2021 17:26

@Weedsnseeds1 I have had that before when trying to book a hospital appointment. Unfortunately it did mean that they literally had no appointments! Think I waited 10 months in the end but it was a routine appointment. I did keep calling to see if they had any cancellations but no luck.

Weedsnseeds1 · 15/01/2021 17:28

AcornAutumn I tilt my head down in a. "heron eyeballing a frog" fashion.
I can't usually pull it down as I'm in a factory. Lots of stairs in some factories!

Weedsnseeds1 · 15/01/2021 17:29

Iheartmysmart thanks, I'll look forward to being too blind to use the system by the time there are any appointments, then! Grin
