So did anyone clap in your street last night?

I did look for a thread on this and couldn't see one.

Quite a few people in our street joined in the clapping in March, but last night you could have heard a pin drop Grin Any die hard clappers out there, or has it fizzled out?

No, thankfully. Complete waste of time. Doesn't help anyone. Couldn't see the point the first time either.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/01/2021 21:03

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

Oh crikey, pin dropping is not the thing now, is it? Grin
Grin Clapping's soooo 2020, dahlink. In 2021 it's all about the pins.

I was getting a bit bored of it last year but this years it's dark, freezing cold and the kids are at school so in bed before 8pm. We didn't but a few of the neighbours did.

Pipandmum · 08/01/2021 21:29

No, though not sure how standing outside your door is putting yourself at any risk, unless you live in a block of flats. But sint join in match and didn't hear anyone this time around.

PinkSpring · 08/01/2021 21:31

One did, she works for the NHS......

Shame she doesn't stick to the rules though and still has numerous visitors over - but hey, she clapped Hmm

No one else did and I doubt anyone else will

NovemberR · 08/01/2021 21:34

No idea. But it's dark, roughly -4 degrees and I'm in a street full of old age pensioners, so I'm pretty sure they didn't.

maadlady · 08/01/2021 21:35

Nope.. i joined in Gok Wan's isolation Nation virtual disco party.. Far more fun and raised money for charity

CandidaAlbicans2 · 08/01/2021 21:36

Not a peep round here either 😁

boddtm · 08/01/2021 21:53

Nope. Emailed my MP about pay for frontline staff though.

dayswithaY · 08/01/2021 22:10

Silence here, even from the loons who whooped and screamed into space last year. Seems like even they are over it.

I did read on Twitter that optimism has died since the summer.

Mydogisagentleman · 08/01/2021 22:11

No. There are at least 4 of us in 10 houses who would be the target.
Not a clap around here

Onceuponatimethen · 08/01/2021 22:13

Not one here

trixiebelden77 · 08/01/2021 22:21

In what way do you think that would help, FreeFreesia?

I can see you think others more deserving - and of course should you wish for our job security you have only to join us, although you may not care for the mortality risk - but I’m not clear how you think this would help?

00100001 · 08/01/2021 22:23

Nope.. no-one.

I did like the idea of the first one. But only for one night. Not the continued clapping for 20 weeks which fizzled out and got a bit silly.

Had it just been a 'one off' it would have been above moment, marking how very important keyworkers were and a nice thanks without costing money, over the top, just a nice clap.

But it was ruined by the repeating, the harassing of people, the singing and dancing, the pianos and trumpets BS.

Shame.

maggienolia · 08/01/2021 22:32

No.
I was busy caring for a client at the time. Didn't hear any clapping round there.

Smidge001 · 08/01/2021 22:36

Nope

user1471538283 · 08/01/2021 22:36

No. The clapping in March apart from the first Thursday worried me. So many NHS staff asked for it to stop as it would mean their being viewed as a charity. My ex neighbours had parties, their elderly mother over and then every Thursday out clapping like sea lions. Then clapping for Boris. It was hypocritical and insufferable.

AgentCooper · 08/01/2021 22:40

Nobody.

Yubaba · 08/01/2021 22:41

Nope, dd is in hospital and not one person stood and clapped, they were to busy looking after patients.

BettyOBarley · 08/01/2021 22:45

No one, which I was really surprised about as one of our neighbours made a massive deal of it last time, blasting her favourite motivational songs out of a giant speaker every week... But not a peep!

SoMuchToBits · 08/01/2021 22:51

Nobody did here. I did pop my head out of the door to check, but nothing. In contrast last spring most of the road were out clapping. Very different now.

I work for the NHS (front line) and appreciated it in the spring. I'm not sure what I feel now though. My job is much tougher than it was in the last peak, and I just feel clapping is ok, but what we really need is more staff/better pay.

Mum2jenny · 08/01/2021 22:51

No idea. I work for the NHS but think this is a really stupid idea. I will NOT be clapping for this!!

Silvergreen · 08/01/2021 22:51

The world has moved on. Some things are just of their time and should stay there. Like clap for carers and the remake of Ab-Fab.

Goldieloxx · 08/01/2021 23:09

No, the moment has passed, people should support the NHS is more meaningful ways. I hated seeing my Tory neighbours clapping last summer

QualityRoads · 08/01/2021 23:14

No. It will help them more if we stick to the rules!
