I find it hard to believe that they can justify this amount of manpower stopping National Trust places from receiving visitors. Surely they have better things to do with their time. They were at 2 sites yesterday.

I think they are trying to reduce spread as people were travelling 50 miles + to the Peak District, which did a great job of spreading the virus.

And people were travelling from Kent to North Yorkshire. These two recent incidents are not the same thing at all. This is a debate about what constitutes 'local' 1 mile? 5 miles? 10 miles? 50+ miles clearly not.

I'd consider Hardwick local to where I live, I'm sure Derbyshire police wouldn't agree. It's more distant than some other places, but a very easy drive along the motorway so can be there in twenty minutes. I think the Scottish rules were 5 miles from your local authority boundary so by those rules it would be allowed.

That seems to be about refusing to wear a mask, the two incidents in Derbyshire are not about refusing to follow the law they are about interpretation of the law.

Also, in England it isn't always that neat and tidy — my DPs' address is "Town A", but they are right on the outskirts. Walking into the town involves a steep hill and long road with narrow (or no) pavements, completely covered by trees and never gritted in winter because it's so narrow the gritter can't get down it.

We always went to Guides/dancing etc in village B, which is at the other end of the road we live on, and safe to walk to, but is only houses, pub, church, church hall and a garage. If you walk to the end of the road, turn and walk for under a mile, you're into village C, which has shops/library/doctors.

There are nice walks around all of these places, but realistically for the ones from town A, at this time of year you'd have to go in a car to access them, despite it being part of the address!

I went to university in a city, and could easily walk in any direction; I'd could do the equivalent of walking through several "villages" in the city, but would never be told I wasn't local.
