Is there a worse job than changing the sheets on a high sleeper bed?

I am of course being lighthearted. But having just grappled once again with the fitted sheet that needs a gymnastics move to be performed in a confined space to get it in place, I think it wins the title of worst household chore.

I agree, We've got large bunk beds and never considered it an issue as we're both tall. Until I tried to change the sheets, literally and up manhandling the whole mattress

nevernotstruggling · 06/01/2021 21:22

Yes, changing the sheets on dd1 top bunk. Changing the sheets isn't so bad but clearing the bed....like 85 teddies and an average of 38 books.

Mumdiva99 · 06/01/2021 21:22

Nope...clearing puke from a top bunk is worse.....and if it has dripped down onto bunk under it even worse!! Fortunately I haven't had to do that in a while - and eldest child can change his own high sleeper bed sheet now.

A friend of mine had kids in a triple bunk and I nearly weed myself when she was telling us the story of child in the top bunk puking everywhere and having to change all 3 beds and clean the carpet where he'd tried to get to her and walked it everywhere- she meant it to be funny....I am not just mean!!

pinktophat · 06/01/2021 21:23

Oh I agree!! Awful!!

AIMD · 06/01/2021 21:23

No there is not

Imiss2019 · 06/01/2021 21:23

Oh god ds had an IKEA one which was only about 2 foot shy of the ceiling. It was the worst job ever changing sheets. Never been so happy to dismantle a bed ever!

Resistthethoughtpolice · 06/01/2021 21:24

Haha, they don't tell you that before you buy them do they? I got rid of our high sleepers for this reason, also everyone got sick of hitting their heads when underneath it. Bastard things.

Gunpowder · 06/01/2021 21:25

Hmmm have just been considering bunkbeds but on the back of this thread I’m going for two singles!

Letshavesometea · 06/01/2021 21:25

Totally agree, mine is old enough to put it on herself, I wash them and give her the pile and let her crack on.

CutsOffCorners · 06/01/2021 21:25

There are not many worse jobs. And even the ones that are objectively worse (cat puke containing whole mice, for example) are still somehow less rage inducing Hmm

Laurendelight · 06/01/2021 21:27

Teach the kids to do it with fitted sheets. Then just throw the duvet on top.

This!

Plus 3 twisty bracelets, a clip on lamp, a paint your own pottery llama, 3 sequin unicorns, some old pyjamas and a bag of melted sweets. Envy not envy.

Can you tell I did this job today?!

I've left the stuffed animal/toy car/plastic food filled cot for tomorrow Blush

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 06/01/2021 21:27

Step ladder. Makes it a lot easier. But still not easy...

FrownsAndDimples · 06/01/2021 21:28

Oh I hate it so much. DH gets that one until they're old enough to change sheets themselves.

Fabvegetablegrower · 06/01/2021 21:29

It's not just me then. I always say the person who invented this style of bed never had to make them. I put my life in my hands every time I come down the ladder. 😂

devildeepbluesea · 06/01/2021 21:29

Agree. Nightmare. I put the ends on the two "head ends" then clamber on and drag the fucking sheet over the rest of the mattress. I avoid doing it as long as possible.

merryhouse · 06/01/2021 21:29

I worked on the principle that if he was old enough (at 6) to sleep in a high bed, he was old enough to climb up there and help put the sheets on Grin

Older son refused to contemplate giving up his high sleeper till he left for university, so it can't have been too much of a hardship.

FeatherLoverGod · 06/01/2021 21:30

I may never change DS2’s and just spray some febreeze occasionally. I bought it as a treat when he finally stopped wetting the bed.

Scissor · 06/01/2021 21:32

Worked with someone who mis-stepped coming back down and broke vertebrae in her back.

Bathroom12345 · 06/01/2021 21:33

I took the whole mattress off, brought it down to floor level with the help of DH whose daft idea it was to have bunk beds. I did warn him....

Luckily the beds have long gone!

JamieLeesCurtains · 06/01/2021 21:37

There's what the child is for. No way I could reach those far corners Grin

They sit up there and you feed the sheet up to them, and they tuck in two end corners, and then they shift over to sit on the tucked corners, and they turn around, and then spread the rest of the sheet out and tuck in the other end corners.

It's how my DS learned to change a sheet from an early age whether he liked it or not.

SilenceIsNoLongerSuspicious · 06/01/2021 21:39

If you buy a thin, cheapo mattress then you can just kneel on one end and pull up the mattress easily. Also extra deep fitted sheets help.

It’s the books, pens, stuffed animals, drawings, fiddle toys, stocking fillers and 1200 loom bands that make it such a pain.

MustDust · 06/01/2021 21:46

Worst idea ever, they got ditched when we moved house thank god! Split 2 pairs of pants crawling round on them.

CinnamonStar · 06/01/2021 21:49

I make mine change their own.

If you are old enough to sleep on the top bunk, you are old enough to change the sheets!

Etinox · 06/01/2021 21:55

Particularly unpleasant if it’s a metal bed!
