Is there a worse job than changing the sheets on a high sleeper bed?

I am of course being lighthearted. But having just grappled once again with the fitted sheet that needs a gymnastics move to be performed in a confined space to get it in place, I think it wins the title of worst household chore.

Agree, up there with the other dreaded chores.

Oh god ds had an IKEA one which was only about 2 foot shy of the ceiling. It was the worst job ever changing sheets. Never been so happy to dismantle a bed ever!
Sounds like the same one as we've got. When I climb up there to change the sheets, it creaks and groans and feels like you're about 30 feet up. And then backing down the ladder without getting your feet caught up in sheets and teddies. Not to mention the thought of DS falling out of it and if he'd survive the fall. I'll be glad when he outgrows it.

Hated DD's high sleeper and got rid off it as soon as I could.

We built ours as the room was too snug to assemble the IKEA frame in the room. We deliberately set it lower than usual so there is enough headroom.

It's much easier than putting on a king size duvet cover. That job is a bitch.

Yup. Dc have them, huge ikea things. I leave the step ladders by side of their wardrobe ready for when I need to change the bedding.

Plus dc2 is an avid reader. Highest number of books in bed that needed fish g out was 34. Tbey took up half the mattress!

Nope...clearing puke from a top bunk is worse.....and if it has dripped down onto bunk under it even worse!! Fortunately I haven't had to do that in a while - and eldest child can change his own high sleeper bed sheet now.

A friend of mine had kids in a triple bunk and I nearly weed myself when she was telling us the story of child in the top bunk puking everywhere and having to change all 3 beds and clean the carpet where he'd tried to get to her and walked it everywhere- she meant it to be funny....I am not just mean!!

This is why only dd1 is allowed to have the top bunk!!! She's well passed any accidents 😂

I just used to take the mattress off first, put the sheet on then throw the mattress back up.

FrankiesKnuckle · 06/01/2021 22:03

I never considered it before getting one.
Kid loves it, I on the other hand do not.
I've lost count of the amount of times I smacked my head after tidying the desk part.

@Laurendelight

Teach the kids to do it with fitted sheets. Then just throw the duvet on top.

I have a little folding step-ladder that I keep in the airing cupboard just for this job..... no problem at all now!

I use to send DS up there to help. Tell you a worse job. Clearing up cat sick during the night on fresh bed linen when you are in the bed! Girl cat ate a slug ...

pleasestoprainingplease · 06/01/2021 22:09

I take the mattress down, put the sheet on and lift it back on! So much easier. Hate the bloody things. Fitted wardrobes on one wall and and huge windows on another means the way the door opens there's only room for stupid beds! Angry
