Modibodi period pants - durable?

MrsH201 · 05/01/2021 18:42

How durable are modibodi period pants, anyone who has had them? I was going to go for the classic boyleg or sensual boyleg. Most of my normal knickers are at least 10 years old! Blush I know they normally say two years or something but I thought they might be erring on the side of caution?

Disappointingly not - the glued seams give way v quickly (few months). Otherwise they are brilliant though (I just over-sewed the seams when they came unstuck)

ShandlersWig · 05/01/2021 18:54

Ive found they go a bit further than 2 years. My heavy flow ones are still going strong 3plus years but the light flow ones struggle beyond a pantyliner flow.
However I've never leaked during the night which has been amazing for me.

MrsH201 · 05/01/2021 19:25

Gosh, I hope I wouldn’t have to do any sewing... not exactly my forte! Yes, that’s mainly what I’d want them for, I think... extra protection at night time. Thank you, ladies!

I would also say they are not that durable. For the price, I expected more. I've had mine approx a year and some of them are unbearable, the rest ok but not great. It also annoyed me that I had to change my pants every time I wanted to freshen up as it were.

I prefer the reusable pads. But, you need the right pants (not period pants necessarily) to wear with them, so they can't move around too much.

karmakameleon · 05/01/2021 20:20

Same, mine haven’t lasted as well as I would hope given the price. They’re amazing in terms of not leaking but they’re expensive to keep replacing.

notafanoftheman · 05/01/2021 20:24

Mine have done well, I wear them every day for running, often change twice a day, and they're solid a year or so on.

AudreyAubergine · 05/01/2021 20:35

Sainsbury's do a version of them, for cheaper. I don't know what they're like, but maybe worth a go. It's what I would buy if I was going for pants again. I don't want to though, except maybe a few pairs for night time.

purpledagger · 05/01/2021 20:53

I have a pair of the boxer style and after a few months, they developed a hole in the gusset, where the pad is. Still wearable a year later.

I have 3 pairs of wuka ones and 2 of them have developed holes and ladders in the netting sides.

Both my wukas and modibodis are coming up to 18 months is use and have are starting to deteriorate, although they are still wearable. Both were £20 a pair, so not cheap!! Considering they are only worn during my cycle, I would have expected them to last longer.

StopMakingATitOfUrselfNPissOff · 05/01/2021 21:56

Cheeky wipes do some. I’ve only been using them a couple of months so can’t talk for longevity but they are comfortable

PurpleFrames · 05/01/2021 22:08

Is recommend the period pants on the Sainsburys TU website - much better value for money and made to last

MrsH201 · 06/01/2021 01:02

Thank you so much for all the great input. Wow, I am so surprised considering the fact that they are quite expensive! I will certainly look at the Sainsbury’s ones. AudreyAubergine, may I also please ask which pants and reusable pads you use?

I have cheeky wipes and modibodi. Had them about a year. Cheeky wipes are fine but less comfortable. The material is a bit crinkly. On the whole I've been far more impressed with modibodi but equally the Cheeky wipes do so the job and they're a lot more affordable. Durability wise they've both been fine so far. I'd recommend you read the washing advice closely though

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 06/01/2021 08:14

My modibodis (bikini style) are well over two years old and going strong- and I've tumble dried most of them by mistake at some point Blush

AudreyAubergine · 06/01/2021 08:33

My reusable pads are the Cheeky Momma ones. I've had them about 3 years, after I had my now 3 yo ds. When I bought them, they were more or less the only ones I'd heard of, so I didn't shop around. I think you can probably find better ones, but I like them fine. They are comfy and wash really well. I like the longer ones myself.

AudreyAubergine · 06/01/2021 09:02

Yes, you are meant to wash modibodi pants COLD and never use fabric conditioner or tumble. I must admit, I've chucked them in with my normal wash a good few times, because I use them to save waste. I don't wash anything else cold, so I would need to do a separate wash for just modibodi pants, which seems silly. I do try to find some knitwear to do with them though.

The cheeky wipes, I think you are meant to wash cold, but they also say up to 30, which is what I wash most clothes at. They have been fine washed with other normal stuff. That along with not having to remove jeans and tights throughout the day to change my period wear, plus the price, means the pads win for me.

There are also cups, which I used for many years until I needed pads for after childbirth (lokia). Never went back to cups. I sometimes found them a bit uncomfy to insert and remove. I also read a bit of research about how they aren't magically clean after a wipe and should really be washed properly and preferably sterilised between uses, which wasn't practical for me. In years gone by they said bacteria couldn't survive on silicone, but they did find whatever it is that causes toxic shock syndrome, could indeed live there. No cases of it actually happening, but in my slightly anxious post baby brain, I didn't want to risk it and found loads so comfy, I never went back.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 06/01/2021 09:04

But you need to wash all underwear on 60 to kill bacteria.

Urgh to washing on cold.

AudreyAubergine · 06/01/2021 09:05

Found PADS so comfy*

Yeah, it is a bit gross if you think about it...but I suppose detergent and the amount of water used in machine washing gets rid of most of the gross. You also pre rinse or soak. I'm not a fan of them though, considering how £££ they are. If you have heavy periods at night time especially though, they are good at preventing leaks, but I do think cheaper period pants plus a long, absorbent, reusable pad would do the same job.
Hollybutnoivy · 06/01/2021 09:10

Mine are a bit worn after 2 years but still ok. I never wash them on cold though as I don't have enough to save them up for a complete wash - does anybody?

Mysa74 · 06/01/2021 09:14

I'm new to reusable San pro, but have used cloth for all 3 of my girls so am going to experiment... Floweret have some really good deals on at the moment. I want to try a cup and my daughter is approaching puberty so I've splashed out on £60 on à "lifetime" kit.
5 pairs of pants, heavy and light pads and 4 cups (2 large, 2 small). Will be interesting to see what they're like and how long they last ..

AudreyAubergine · 06/01/2021 09:40

I used cloth for dc2, but not dc1, except wipes (cheeky wipes Smile). I think sanpro is easier than nappies.

Mysa74 · 06/01/2021 14:18

Thank you @AudreyAubergine that gives me confidence, I love my cheeky wipes too!
I very nearly got the sanpro from cheeky but the Floweret deal was just too good, I'll see how we go and might try them next time. DD is bound to grow, lol

Cordillera · 06/01/2021 16:45

Had my Modibodis 3 years and they're still great. I rinse and reuse then cold wash. My new washing machine doesn't have cold wash so I put them in the rinse cycle with detergent and it's a short cycle.

Cold wash for protein ie bodily fluids as otherwise you "cook" the protein into the fabric. Still hygienic.

NotTheMrMenAgain · 06/01/2021 23:47

I bought a load of modibodi RED pants for DD when she started her periods earlier in the year and was SO disappointed in them - they look great but the absorbency is really, really poor. They're really not fit for purpose as period pants - DD only wears them as a back up in case a pad leaks or if her period might start. WUKA on the other hand have been brilliant - especially the heavy flow - really absorbent and wash well.

MrsH201 · 07/01/2021 09:07

That’s useful to know about WUKA. I may give them a go as well. Perhaps the trick is to buy one from each brand - also this goes deeply against my ‘matching set’ tendency! Grin
