Help - icy cold feet when working from home!

TR888 · 05/01/2021 11:31

I sit at my desk for hours on end everyday and my feet get incredibly cold. My house is warm so that's not the issue, I think it's just not moving. I'm really busy so not sitting down is not an option!

I have a blanket over my legs, and wear warm cashmere socks with real sheepskins boots. If I work until very late (like last night) my feet get so cold I can't áy go to sleep. Showering would work but I don't want to wake my family up.

I'm starting to daydream about electric feet warmers, like a common granny. Please help.

Therma socks?

RandomMess · 05/01/2021 11:32

Electric feet warmer or electric throw tbh

I drape my throw over my feet and foot rest.

Those electric feet warmer things are fab! I 'inherited' a brand new one when an elderly relative died before being able to make use of it - blimey it is toasty! 😆

I've since bought one for my Mum (thought she'd be most put out because she doesn't like to be thought of as old, despite being 80(!) 😆) She LOVES it!

So, get on Amazon and get one ordered, you won't regret it. 🙂

KyraGoose · 05/01/2021 11:49

Heated blankets are amazing.

moglovesmincepies · 05/01/2021 11:50

Hot water bottle under your feet?

BurningTheToast · 05/01/2021 11:51

Sheepskin boots, Ugg-style ones.

I live in the country with stone floors and my Ugg-a-likes (from Celtic) are the only thing that keep my feet toasty without being sweaty.

CoronaCurls · 05/01/2021 11:53

I use a cat blanket under my feet - the type that is fleecy on top with a reflective layer underneath.

They are about a fiver in B&M and make a huge difference, much better than slippers or layers of socks.

AlwaysColdHands · 05/01/2021 11:56

Hot water bottle under feet, wrap blankets around. Get up regularly for a little jump around. I suffer terribly with this too Sad

Campalumpa · 05/01/2021 11:57

I have just bough an electric foot warmer pad - was about £20 from amazon

BikeRunSki · 05/01/2021 11:57

@BurningTheToast

I agree, but the op is already wearing real sheepskin boots.

OP, I am similar. I do a few star jumps when I get chilly! Gets the blood zooming down to the extremities again.

MajorityPissedOff · 05/01/2021 11:57

Rest your feet on a hot water bottle? I used to do this in an office job ( luckily had my own office)

Dereg · 05/01/2021 12:00

Soak feet in a bowl of hot water else you are on a losing battle to start with Grin

Then purchase some Merino wool socks, I just got some online from Icebreaker, as they had a sale before Xmas.

I wouldn't wear cotton indoors in the winter again.

sleepismysuperpower1 · 05/01/2021 12:14

try having a short walk around the room every couple of hours, even just to the window and back.
a foot warmer like this would also be worth a look, I'm looking at getting this one myself

A YouTuber I like has these and says they help a lot?

OP, I feel your pain!

What helps me is the incredibly ugly but incredibly useful slanket that my DH gave me a few years ago. It's enormous, so it can seal in all drafts from my neck down and tuck under my feet when I'm sitting with room to spare. It's one of those thicker faux-sheepskin types that have a woolly interior and a smooth outer layer.

On top of wool socks, sheepskin slippers, merino thermals, fingerless gloves, etc... it was the one thing that stopped my feet turning to blocks of ice when working for long periods.

geekaMaxima · 05/01/2021 13:08

This thing - it's a sherpa lining, apparently.

TR888 · 05/01/2021 14:10

Geekamaxima, that thing you linked is hilarious - but I can see how it'd work! I'm off to read about it.

Greatmusic · 05/01/2021 14:38

Hot water bottle here too but only if they haven't got too cold already, as warming them up too quickly gives me chilblains.

RB68 · 05/01/2021 14:44

poor circulation as you are not moving enough

Horsemad · 05/01/2021 14:47

When I had an op a few years ago, the nurse in hospital told me to periodically squeeze my bum cheeks together whilst sat in the chair, as that's a good way to get the blood circulating properly apparently. 😀

TheSpottedZebra · 05/01/2021 14:49

You move around less when you're wfh (possibly not true if you're trying to do childcare/home school at same time...) so you really should try to address that.

And yes, woollen socks.

QueenPawPaws · 05/01/2021 14:55

Same! Just put my UGG boots on, I know it's from sitting still but I can't move about
