Have you been part of an online group or forum that just died?

I was just looking at my neighbourhood forum this evening (not on FB) and it used to be really lively, lots of posts, sometimes quite amusing. It was started in something like 2007 so quite early in the timeline of these things.

Sadly now I think it's about to go to that great Forum in the sky. I can't put my finger on why it has become so deathly dull. Combination of some people posting too much (so it makes you roll your eyes that old so and so is dominating every thread), and I guess WhatsApp and FB groups for those who prefer them. Also a marked lack of interest from the Admin, who I think is a one man band, to doing anything other than the bare minimum with the Forum.

I remember Friends Reuinited and how popular it was and then ... pffft!

eBay boards were great back in the day. The Round Table was like Fight Club with added bear pit! And then it died. Has anyone looked there lately? It's nothing short of tragic Grin

@InterfectoremVulpes

Yes! Many fun hours circa 2007/2008

Sheleg · 04/01/2021 22:50

I was one of the original founders of Jodie Mush! I loved that forum. My screen name was TonyTrumpet.

ChristingleAlltheWay · 04/01/2021 22:51

Boots Diet. All of the regulars moved to FB around the time it got taken over by Nutracheck. Think the fees became too expensive for us. We started off with our own FB group them just befriended each other.

Went on holiday with someone I met there.

StormTreader · 04/01/2021 22:56

Etiquette Hell, used to absolutely live on there!

MedusasBadHairDay · 04/01/2021 22:57

I was on a fan forum that eventually vanished after a load of controversy - apparently it was founded by 2 people, one of them paid all the upfront costs (domain, server space etc) only for the other one to then ban them from the forum and refuse to pay them back. They then started banning users who knew about this, or users who they thought knew about this, which of course meant they then found out about it. And as most of the users they targeted were really prolific/popular posters it backfired on them and loads of splinter forums were started.

darumafan · 04/01/2021 22:57

I used to use Raising Kids, I don't know what happened to it.

raskolnikova · 04/01/2021 22:58

I posted on a Manic Street Preachers forum a lot as a teenager, before it went to Forum Heaven.

MrsJBradders · 04/01/2021 23:07

@raskolnikova me too! Forever Delayed?

pradamarda · 04/01/2021 23:10

I was part of a group on face book that was really helpful for the condition I have, but they changed it so you can only post during the day (when I am working) so it's not really a support to me anymore.

Also minimims? I think it was called that, it was a diet thing but got closed off when everything turned to apps

Janaih · 04/01/2021 23:11

Used to love channel4 forums particularly the big brother one in the early 2000s. It was quite witty and vicious, rather like mn i feel Grin

PeggyBundy · 04/01/2021 23:13

Popbitch. Met some of my dearest friends on there.

24hoursfromtulsa · 04/01/2021 23:15
@AlexCabot I used to like EH as well.
I used to post on a forum that was dedicated to a C List (probably B list at the time) Celeb and her frankly bonkers blog posts. It could be pretty vicious at times but poor Celeb didn’t really do herself any favours and would go on outrageous tirades on her blog in response to posts on the forum, bless her. Like most of these things it had mushroomed so about 75% of the posts had nothing to do with the blog anymore.
Eventually C-List Celeb got the lawyers involved and the site was mothballed. I still wonder what became of the posters.
I'm 99% sure I was on the same forum - did it have a four letter name beginning with M?

raskolnikova · 04/01/2021 23:16

@MrsJBradders I'm trying to remember... I think there were two main forums, Forever Delayed and one on the official band website. I remember lurking around Forever Delayed, but I think I posted more on the other one.

Unless I'm remembering wrongly, it was about 15 years ago!

24hoursfromtulsa · 04/01/2021 23:16

Meant to @ you, @Furrybootsyecomfy

magicstar1 · 04/01/2021 23:18

Magicmum in Ireland too. It was a fantastic forum, but the owner sold it. The new owners started selling ad space etc. and a few users set up a new forum. Next thing it just died a death. It was weird how quickly it went.

24hoursfromtulsa · 04/01/2021 23:19

@Sheleg

I was one of the original founders of Jodie Mush! I loved that forum. My screen name was TonyTrumpet.
@sheleg I was on there too, wasn't a 'founder' but was on there from the start, I moved to the new Mush forum from the Digital Spy thread.
Valkadin · 04/01/2021 23:22

I remember PopBitch I was also on forum called something like wedding guide UK about 23 years ago. It also had parenting channels, and diversified a bit but was tiny compared to forums these days.

Furrybootsyecomfy · 04/01/2021 23:24

@Sheleg and @24hoursfromtulsa
Yes!! Absolutely loved it and would spend hours there. My UN was Buttonfeatures, I won a forum award for a picture I drew on MS Paint once and was unreasonably proud. For years afterwards I would occasionally google to see if had been revived.
Come back School Teacher Lauren and the Sugar Hut gang!

Cattenberg · 04/01/2021 23:30

I was part of a politics forum a few years ago. We also talked about travel and random stuff. I got to know the regulars quite well. I took long break from posting when DD was born and one day, I realised the forum had vanished. I do wonder how the regulars are dong these days.

Recently, I realised that one of the regulars is now a MNer. I’d like to message her, but I wonder if she might be shocked to have been recognised. I don’t know her in real life.

FluffySocks75 · 04/01/2021 23:35

Baby world.

Bounty - the debates board was like a vipers nest

MSN groups - loved them

24hoursfromtulsa · 04/01/2021 23:37

@Furrybootsyecomfy @Sheleg

It was such a fun forum, wasn't it. I also spent hours and hours just chatting on there. My username was lesleyanne I think, something really boring anyway.

I made real life friends on Mush, even got a kitten (now sadly deceased) from one of my fellow Mushers. 😊

theatlanticocean · 04/01/2021 23:37

‘Gurl.com’ forums in late teens, probably about 2004ish. Just tried typing it in and the url now takes you to Seventeen website, so they are completely gone.

Babyandbump parenting forum in 2011 was really busy and buzzing then just gradually fizzled out. You can still go on it but it’s pretty dead and full of ads and pop-ups, no community feel anymore.

Cosmopolitan forums

Also used to like the Big Brother forums, completely forgot about them until reading here Grin
