Is anyone keeping up their Christmas decs longer this year?

We nearly always take ours down by now in readiness for the new year and fresh start. However there is nothing to look forward to for the foreseeable so I’m thinking of keeping them up for at least another week or so. I love having fairy lights everywhere and the tree. It might be bad luck past the 12th night but I’m prepared to risk it!! 😆

Anyone else?

If you leave them up after 12th night I'm sure I've read that they should stay up until Shrove Tuesday. I'm taking ours down on Wednesday. I feel as though Christmas isn't special if they're up for too long.

NovemberR · 03/01/2021 17:27

I'm thinking about it.

Life feels very flat and grey at the moment and I'm reluctant to get rid of my tree, lights and candles. They bring a bit of merriment still.

Gone today. Yippee.

Apparently the Queen keeps her up until February so you’re in good company!

Christmas secs inside or gone, but candles and indoor fairy lights staying, I'm leaving also my outdoor lights on! Well until the batteries wear out! I like seeing them sparkle especially when driving home in the dark!

NewYearNewTwatName · 03/01/2021 17:30

We will leave the outside lights and lights in lounge window up. They are only warm white.

As we live down a dark lane, it cheers me up when I drive in from work.

itispersonal · 03/01/2021 17:30

Obviously I'm so excited about my lights, I've lost the ability to spell!

MsChatterbox · 03/01/2021 17:35

I've taken mine down but I've kept up the lights in the kitchen window. I really prefer how it lights the kitchen compared to the main light. I think they're going to be up for good tbh!!

moglovesmincepies · 03/01/2021 17:37

I've taken the decs down but left candles and have put extra fairy lights all around.
Going to buy new fluffy cushions and throws to make it cost I think.

Spudlet · 03/01/2021 17:37

I’m repositioning some of the outside lights and leaving them up until Spring. Goodness knows we need a bit of sparkle at the moment. I’ve taken the indoors ones down though, they take too much space up.

moglovesmincepies · 03/01/2021 17:38

Cody not cost! And you can leave decorations up till candlemass (feb) anyway.

moglovesmincepies · 03/01/2021 17:38

Ffs cosy. I hate autocorrect

KipperTheFrog · 03/01/2021 17:40

Took ours down yesterday, but left the fairylights on the stairs. Going to keep them up all year and get new lights for the tree in December.

helloxhristmas · 03/01/2021 17:45

No we out them up so early this year it was time for them to go.

Frenchfemme · 03/01/2021 17:45

I usually leave my tree up until Candlemass (Feb 2nd). I live in France and it is common here. However, I don’t tend to put the tree up until the week before Christmas, usually Christmas Eve. I didn’t have one this Christmas - struggling with mobility, difficulties with getting out due to restrictions etc, but hoping normal service will be resumed for Christmas 2012!

wishingitwasfriday · 03/01/2021 17:46

Tree went today but keeping some lights across the mantelpiece and the kitchen window for a while yet. Makes the house look cosy and comforting.

supadupapupascupa · 03/01/2021 17:48

Just taken all ours down. Normally come down in the 5th or 6th but with working from home and homeschooling starting tomorrow there will be zero time.
Keeping outside lights for the winter now.

Ohdeariedear · 03/01/2021 18:01

Nope, mine all went away this morning. We put them up earlier than usual so it feels like they’ve been up for weeks and weeks.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 03/01/2021 18:03

Nope. Mine went up the same time as usual (it was about 22nd Dec this year) and will come down on 12th night as always.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 03/01/2021 18:03

We took ours down on new years eve so much earlier than usual, being stuck at home meant i wanted every bit of spare space available for the kids

RaspberryCoulis · 03/01/2021 18:04

Nope, they're down already. And they didn't go up earlier either.

inquietant · 03/01/2021 18:04

We are taking ours down, then redecorating for New Year.

Then Chinese New Year.

Then a birthday in March.

Then Easter.

Hoping by then I can face a bare wall with no lights Grin. Kids on board and new themed decs planned (we make them so no cost).

No one enters the house now anyway, so no shame!

PoppyOppy · 03/01/2021 18:08

Mine came down today. Not that we had too much up!

Taking the door wreath down tomorrow and going to put the berries from it out where the birds can find them. The greenery is going in the compost.

Steamfan · 03/01/2021 18:10

Left our outside lights most of last year. Will do the same this year. Lifts the spirits just a little bit when I'm walking up the road in the dark, and when DH finishes his shift at 10pm.

howmanypreciousppl · 03/01/2021 18:11

God no mine were down on the 27th I wanted my house back.
