Is anyone keeping up their Christmas decs longer this year?

We nearly always take ours down by now in readiness for the new year and fresh start. However there is nothing to look forward to for the foreseeable so I’m thinking of keeping them up for at least another week or so. I love having fairy lights everywhere and the tree. It might be bad luck past the 12th night but I’m prepared to risk it!! 😆

Anyone else?

I usually keep mine up longer but they're down now. I'm searching for the next thing to celebrate and have started an Easter Pinterest board...that is how bored I am...

unmarkedbythat · 03/01/2021 18:11

God no. I had them down yesterday. The dc made me put them up in bloody November, that was more than long enough! I'm ordering more window paint pen things though, they can decorate the windows to their heart's content then.

Up on Christmas Eve, down on Epiphany.

Yes. Mine are normally down on the 1st.
My real tree is still up and looks great. So it'll stay up until it is bald or looks dead.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 03/01/2021 18:14

No, ours came down on the 1st. I don’t think Christmas seems right in January, it seems well and truly over.

MrsHugsxx · 03/01/2021 18:17

No, the tree and all decorations came down yesterday. The window lights will come down probably tomorrow. When Christmas has been and gone it starts to become clutter and gets on my nerves.

ComtesseDeSpair · 03/01/2021 18:17

I’m keeping the front door wreath up until it goes completely brown - as much as because I’m really impressed by its longevity (it went up on 1st December) and am curious to see how much longer it will last, but it also makes my fairly spartan front door look cosier. Only a few browning sprigs so far. We’ll probably also keep up some of the fairy lights in the back garden.

Ninkanink · 03/01/2021 18:18

I usually take them down on the 6th.

This year I’ve already taken quite a bit down. I’ve left the outdoor lights, the living room window decorations/stars, and the tree. I will leave those up for a bit longer but probably not all that long. I’d happily leave the outdoor lights strung along the fence until the end of January, though. They look so lovely and cheerful, twinkling away.

Rockbird · 03/01/2021 18:22

Same as most others here it seems. Tree came down today but the outside lights and window lights are staying for a while. I love fairy lights.

Denny53 · 03/01/2021 18:22

I tend to take things down daily over a period of days otherwise I find room looks too bare

ureterr1blemuriel · 03/01/2021 18:24

Ooh a bit if a mix - I totally get taking them down ASAP and I’m normally this way but this year just feels different to me.

I like the idea of leaving just some of the lights up and everything else goes. I’ll deffo leave the ones up above the kitchen cupboards and the outside ones. Christmas cushions, cards and big pre-lit stars might go first I think.

I always take our tree and decorations down the day after New Year's Day and have done this year. I will keep our light up star in the window until spring and light lots of candles.

AdventCaroline · 03/01/2021 18:30

Ours will go down on Wednesday evening. We have some Wise men tree ornaments that we don't put on the tree until the 6th, so can't take it down before then.

Still in Christmas mode here anyway, using Christmas plates and mugs, still eating Christmas food, watching Christmas films, though Dc back to school tomorrow so winding down a bit.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 03/01/2021 18:49

We took the trees down last week because they do my head in after a while (they only went up about 10 days before Christmas) and we needed the surface space they were taking up.

I do have some empty jars from some candles that I've filled with orange micro led lights - they're in the little alcove things in the TV cupboard. In the dining room we still have the fake candles on the hearth and the warm white fairy lights around the fireplace. I think they make the place look inviting and warm.

happymummy12345 · 03/01/2021 18:51

I'm superstitious so it only ever comes down on the 6th January (I'm Catholic but not exactly religious) but I've always been the same. Never up until the 1st weekend of December and never down until 6th January.
Would love to leave them up this year though.
Part of me thinks if it was okay to put them up the beginning of November why isn't it okay to leave them up until February?

bwfcchick88 · 03/01/2021 19:09

Usually keep ours up until the 6th but took them down today - DH is back at work tomorrow and I'm starting my new job (remotely) so just thought it would be easier to get them away today. I have kept up the blue fairy lights though!

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 03/01/2021 19:14

I'd usually have mine down by now but it seems stupid to rush anything this year, when we have so much time to fill. I'll take it all down on Wednesday while DH makes Nollaig na mBan dinner Grin

I did take the Star of Bethlehem down the other day though. It was hanging from the sitting room light and whacked me in the head one time too many.

I'll keep the front door wreath thing going with various seasonal things though, I like that. And we have a tall lantern full of fairy lights beside the fireplace all year.

OliveHenry · 03/01/2021 19:16

Like others, all down except for the twinkly lights around the picture rail.

They'll be coming down in a few weeks, but only after I've had them replaced with new ones!

I'm hoping to get some which are a better length (these are too long so dangle down in some corners) and on white cable, so they're not as obtrusive. Grin

MrsDThomas · 03/01/2021 21:09

Only cos we have snow and I've been out enjoying the nice weather. They’re down tomorrow as I’ll get peace to Take them down.

willowstar · 03/01/2021 21:36

Everything down and packed away on the 30th except the lovely colourful lights I bought for the deck which I have decided are lockdown lights and will stay up as long as we are trapped in this misery. I have also ordered more outdoor lights for the deck...just to cheer me up a bit.

carlywurly · 03/01/2021 22:19

Ooh I love the idea of lockdown lights Smile that really should be a thing!
