I'm in the mood for a film. Probably not a rom-com unless its properly amazing. Definitely not a TV programme. What's the best thing you've seen on Netflix recently?

Two films (in french randomly) that I really enjoyed were Blind Date and Wedding unplanned. Both funny but also quite sweet and rom com style so maybe not what you’re up for tonight.

American Murder: The Family Next door

BettyBo33 · 02/01/2021 21:47

Cargo with Martin Freeman 😢

Limitless

I second I'm thinking of ending things. I also recently enjoyed: The Platform; This is the End; and Disappearance at Clifton Hill.

Vacation

The conceit is that Rusty Griswold (of National Lampoon's fame) is now a grown up Grin

Some proper laugh out loud moments and a good natured way to spend a couple of hours

We watched the movie Yesterday last night, can't remember if it was on Netflix or Sky though sorry.
About a young guy who has an accident and when he wakes up he's the only one who remembers the Beatles - very light hearted and very enjoyable!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 02/01/2021 21:55

We watched Parasite yesterday but I think it's on Prime. Best film I've seen in a while though.

BrimfulOfBaba · 02/01/2021 22:00

I'm Sorry To Bother you was maybe the best film I have seen for ages. Funny, trippy. Also, an oldie, but Galaxy Quest was good fun!

joystir59 · 02/01/2021 22:02

Parasite on Prime
Brief Encounter on Prime

Dobbyhasnomaster · 02/01/2021 22:05

Oceans 8 is good, as is Now You See Me.

ketosavedmylife · 02/01/2021 22:08

@Misty9

Not Netflix but hidden figures was on c4 recently and was amazing.
I loved this film and have watched it three times Grin. Highly recommended. True story, too, which makes it all the more remarkable.

Recently binge watched Queen's Gambit after dipping in speculatively thinking "A series about chess? How interesting will this be?" Turned out to be very watchable. Its a series not a film though.

As @ArcheryAnnie said earlier, Enola Holmes was an enjoyable film.

American Murder: The Family Next door
Oh goodness, this was shocking to watch, was totally glued to it Shock. Heinous crime committed by husband and watching it unfold as it happened is chilling. Lots of spinoff programmes to be found on youtube...
LeaveMyDamnJam · 02/01/2021 22:13

Joker, I can’t remember if I saw it on Netflix or Amazon prime.

A brilliant but very disturbing film. Joaquim Phoenix deserved his Oscar.

PennyPinkleton · 02/01/2021 22:16

Midnight Sky (George Clooney)

Mykittensaremyfriends · 02/01/2021 22:19

Not a film but The Queen's Gambit is one if the best programmes I've watched in a while. Highly recommend!

HasaDigaEebowai · 02/01/2021 22:20

Prom, amazing cast and so funny. A real feel good movie

Veryverycalmnow · 02/01/2021 22:21

'Rocks' without a doubt. Really impressive- the most realistic dialogue and acting I've seen and a beautiful, touching story.

ketosavedmylife · 02/01/2021 22:22

@JiltedJohnsJulie

We watched Parasite yesterday but I think it's on Prime. Best film I've seen in a while though.
We went to see this at the cinema, really enjoyed it. Black humour at its best.

Reminded my of another cracker, Headhunters (now available dubbed but we watched it with subtitles). I highly recommend this one if you can find it. Both are somewhat violent but feature very black humour.

Just checked, it is not on netflix nor free on Amazon Prime but you could pay to watch on youtube.

Watched Spy recently: it's brilliant. Properly laugh out loud funny.

Bloodybridget · 02/01/2021 22:25

The Life Ahead. Italian, not a romance, very moving.

slug · 02/01/2021 22:26

Galaxy Quest is on Netflix

Bloodybridget · 02/01/2021 22:26

Oh and Rocks, recommended upthread, was brilliant too.

FindHungrySamurai · 02/01/2021 22:27

If you’re up for something violent then Dredd is amazingly good.

Galaxy Quest is on Netflix at the mo I think and that never fails to hit the spot.

But in terms of truly great films the stuff that’s on BBC iPlayer at the moment is streets ahead of Netflix. They’ve got some great classics, family films and relatively new releases.

WingingItSince1973 · 02/01/2021 22:36

Queens Gambit is absolutely fab. Not a film but a good binge watch x
