What hobbies do you have?

I'm interested to know what other people do for fun or relaxation on their evenings/weekends/whenever they have some free time.

I start things all the time but I'm never consistent. Crochet is my latest short-lived hobby. I'd love to find a hobby that I enjoy enough to stick with. I appreciate everybody will have different interests, but I'm hoping to get some ideas!

Art, Bookbinding, paper crafting, DIY (not like big projects but little home decor based things), journaling, hoarding massive amounts of stickers and washi tapes.

Rocket3000 · 28/12/2020 03:56

I don't think I have enough creativity for things like that, although I wish I did! I remember my mum buying me an origami set when I was a teenager and I gave up after I learned how to make a box Blush

I do not do much by way of hobbies. I love to cook and I love to meal plan.

That's about it.

wiltingflower · 28/12/2020 06:59

Knitting
Embroidery
Reading
Running

14ScottsRoad · 28/12/2020 07:09

Oh i sort of scrapbook. Not properly. I have a nice book that I put postcards in, tickets, write about a day out etc. I was reading it yesterday and it brought back lots of nice memories.

14ScottsRoad · 28/12/2020 07:13

Oh maybe I do have hobbies! I also LOVE reading lifestyle blogs about living well and peacefully and making your home into your family's safe space and beautiful.

Heyahun · 28/12/2020 07:15

Gaming, have my PlayStation and the Nintendo switch! My husband and I have some games we play together and some games that we have separate to each other which is nice too as it can be a social thing or also a get away on my own!

I joined rock climbing centre last year which had been great - unfortunately it’s closed at the mo because of Covid

Swimming (also not on at the moment)

Even little things like starting to cycle to work each day instead of the commute I’d class as a sort of hobby I suppose??

We do board game night monthly with some friends (again n out at the moment- although attempting one tonight over video call - so we will see if that works out

Fluffypyjamasandgin · 28/12/2020 07:23

Photography/art
Baking very occasionally
Movies/TV
Reading
Walking/hiking
Board games
Does weights in the gym count?

DH and I are starting a new hobby in 2021 where we both are going to write a novel each - we'll do about 7k words per week and read each others as we go along. The books will be shite, but it's creative and fun.

Itsallpointless · 28/12/2020 07:35

OP I could've written your post, I am not consistent at all, struggle with commitment to anything. I quite like sewing, and I do enjoy it. I joined an evening class about 8 years ago to learn how to make a garment, but there were too many in the class, so little guidance/teaching.

I'm interested to see what others do!

ArabellaPilkington · 28/12/2020 07:44

Not sure I'd call any of these "hobbies", more "stuff I do in my free time":

  • walking with a friend
  • walking with a podcast
  • taking photos of nature (just with a phone, nothing fancy)
  • learning more about nature (reading, FB groups, Google, Seek app etc)
  • researching and cooking new stuff
  • gardening (Feb - Oct), rewilding/wildflower project in 2021 for part of garden
  • reading mainly fiction

And when DD (14) free as well, watching telly series with her.

Cam2020 · 28/12/2020 07:49

I've recently started taking up sewing by hand. I'm not very good and just making outfits for my daughter's dolls but I find it calming.

Other than that: reading and walking.

OddestSock · 28/12/2020 07:51

Mainly running and sewing. I'm not super fit and I don't run fast, but I've come to. Really enjoy it since i started a couple of years ago.

And i bought myself a sewing machine to make face masks earlier this year. I'm now hooked, I've made clothes, countless pencil cases for my daughters and their friends, cushion covers...and some masks :)

NoWordForFluffy · 28/12/2020 07:54

I do cross stitch and I also have an allotment.

GnomeDePlume · 28/12/2020 08:06

We have a fairly large allotment so apart from running that (planning, planting, tending, harvesting) I also use the produce so preserving (pasta sauces, jams, jellies, fruit alcohols, brewing).

The allotment is definitely balm for my soul. It has its own rhythm. Tending the allotment during lockdown has been wonderfully soothing. It doesnt care about covid. We have had the same conversations with fellow allotmenteers as in any year, talking about the weather, what we are growing, what has done well, what hasnt.

This year we planted a whole new orchard (about 30 trees) so there will be tending and pruning to do.

DH and I always joke about what point in the season we will start talking about what we will do differently 'next year'. Because there always is 'next year' short of a plague of locusts.

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 28/12/2020 08:22

I've only really started regular 'hobbies' in the last few months as I struggle to stick with things but I think I've found the few things I enjoy enough!
Reading - I'm part of an online book club which helps with motivation and gets me reading things I wouldn't normally touch!
Running - just completed my first run challenge and have a medal on the way.
Crochet - so relaxing for an evening.
Gardening - I love watching my little gardens coming to life 😊

PurrBox · 28/12/2020 08:49

This is a lovely thread-

Cooking, including trying to buy from our local farm and cook with wild food I find while walking
Picking up rubbish as I walk (or go through life generally)
Look at birds
Hiking/walking
Talking to friends

Used to read a lot and do yoga

I wish I had a hobby that combined art and interacting with people. I think I am describing playing chamber music with friends, which I also no longer do.

LawnFever · 28/12/2020 09:02

I’m a member of the WI, we obviously can’t meet up irl at the moment but we have an online book club and zoom meetings

I read, crochet, knit, sew. In the warmer months I potter about in the garden (not sure I know what I’m doing enough to call it gardening!)

I always put bird food out and watch the birds, walk the dog, try and run with the couch to 5k app Smile

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/12/2020 09:24

Running - I run 4/5 times a week
Bootcamp - I attend a brilliant club, 2x a week
Yoga
My other hobbies are decorating fancy birthday cakes.
Restoring/painting furniture, often that I find in skips or charity shops

2021 I'd like to get better at DIY by doing some simple projects such as restoring my parquet floor Smile

I'm not brilliant at any of these things, but I enjoy them enough to keep doing them and I am improving. And they bring me joy

xsquared · 28/12/2020 09:29

Reading
Running
Colouring in
Piano
Quizzing

QuantumJump · 28/12/2020 09:31

Mine are reading and running. Occasionally I enjoy a jigsaw.

SpareRoom · 28/12/2020 10:03

I play in a band so spent a lot of time practising at home, rehearsing and gigging before covid. Now I just play a lot at home.

I arrange songs for 4 part close harmony. No one ever sings them; I just like doing it!

They're my main ones.

KeyboardWorriers · 28/12/2020 14:10

Reading, swimming, playing piano, walking and (in warmer months) stand up paddle boarding

They make me happy Smile
