One thing you want to change for 2021?

Not a NY resolution, but one thing you think you can change that will make a real difference to your life.

Me - I plan to spend 30 minutes after dinner just winding down to classical music and cleaning the kitchen and getting ready for the next day. Lunchbox snacks writing in homework diaries, prioritising for the next day. That sort of thing.

Our house by way of an extension and many repairs. It gets me down how badly it’s needed so I’m hoping to get lots of it done in 2021. Touch wood.

RosesandPumpkins · 27/12/2020 17:02

I’m going to use my phone less and experience the world more.

MawkishHawk · 27/12/2020 17:04

Great thread idea. I’ll have a think :-)

me too I think.

I need to seriously re-think my relationship with tv, devices, computers, and the phone.

My size.

I lost 4 stone year before last, but was pregnant this year (still over weight so I didn't actually gain anything in pregnancy).

I know it's not the in thing now to say that worth body confidence, but I'm still 7 stone overweight even having lost 4, and I look and feel like a sack of shit.

Crunchymum · 27/12/2020 17:24

Dry January with a view to teetotalism.

This in turn will help with my weight /food choices etc.

I have zero willpower after a glass of wine and many, many glasses of wine have been had in 2020!!

tbh I could really do with this also. I have absolutely slammed it in lockdown. I could really do with stopping entirely, and I suspect that on stopping alot of other bits of my life will come together more smoothly also.

(We could have a thread if you like crunchy)

Assuming I cannot change the government for a competent one and a Prime Minister who is not a misogynistic immoral man.

I want never to return to a full week's work in an office, just one or two days and the rest wfh. It might happen.

MrsSiba · 27/12/2020 17:35

I want to go to bed earlier, by 11 ideally.

I love a couple of hours to myself after the kids have gone to bed but I usually fall asleep on the sofa by 10 so I may as well be in bed.

InvincibleInvisibility · 27/12/2020 17:37

Something I can control - read more instead of watching netflix on my phone.

Something I can't- DS having fewer tantrums over homework (ADHD)

PolarnOPirate · 27/12/2020 17:41

Same as many others - less screentime, more reading, painting, meditating, gardening, DIY. In fact I told DH yesterday I'm going to not come on mumsnet at all next year! So I appear to be cramming as much in as poss before new year Grin MN is great in some ways but I always end up feeling shit and that is not healthy.

Have done loads of work on myself in 2020 and want to continue that :)

JonHammIsMyJamm · 27/12/2020 17:41

Develop a consistent yoga habit.

I’ve dabbled for 15+ years but I’d like to get settled into a regular practice at home.

PolarnOPirate · 27/12/2020 17:42

(I have been on here on and off for 12 years since I was 19 so that's actually quite a big goal for me!)

shamus2020 · 27/12/2020 17:47

Oh I've got a few things I want to change in 2021.

Pass my driving test and purchase a car.

Save money.

Start the gym. Not to lose weight but could do with improving my fitness. I ran for the train last week and it almost killed me.

Take better care of my appearance. Have regular hair cuts, nails, waxing booked in. I find that I leave it until I look rock bottom before noticing it needs doing.

Crunchymum · 27/12/2020 17:47

There is usually a Dry January thread (title always involves Penguins Grin) @14ScottsRoad but i'd happily be a thread buddy with you

Darker · 27/12/2020 17:49

I am almost at the end of a full year without alcohol. I am not giving up permanently but hope to have far less in 2021 than I did in 2019. It's been a good experience.

Needhelpwithaquestion · 27/12/2020 17:50

Great thread. Definitely less screen time.

Front load lots of tasks, direct debits, standing food orders, deal with something as soon as I see it, not defer

merlotormalbec · 27/12/2020 17:50

I've made a promise to be kinder to myself. I'm everyone's biggest supporter but I'm horrible and so harsh to myself. I'm going to try to stop doing that.

Sheleg · 27/12/2020 17:51

I need to bloody well start being properly grateful for what I have (a lovely DD, a great DH and a nice flat) instead of dwelling on regrets I shouldn't even have because my current situation was my own choice and I worked hard for it!

redfernsydney · 27/12/2020 17:52

eat more fish, ( british and sustainable )

I did this in 2018 and joined the One Year No Beer (OYNB) challenge. I didn’t miss wine or any alcohol and I much prefer to be 3 stone lighter, sleep soundly and have nice skin.
winechateauxjoy · 27/12/2020 17:55

As soon as I can - do an evening class - something totally for me. Maybe dressmaking, pottery, but something creative.

And go to France - God I missed that this year.

BrassicaBabe · 27/12/2020 17:56

@Crunchymum @14ScottsRoad snap! I did a month alcohol free in June. I felt so much better. Lost the 7lb I was struggling with. Slept better. But gradually slipped back into my normal (too much) drinking. I'm planning on doing Dry January but with half a mind on something else. That might be 90 days AF because I found that 30 days isn't long enough to create new habits. Not sure. But it's in my mind....

chillychills · 27/12/2020 17:59

I have just got one of those life planners, I’m going to start in Jan but I have done the initial goal pages and it’s been great to get me think about what I want for 2021. The main focus is on experiences rather than stuff and being more present/getting out the house rather than being preoccupied by screens and moaning that I’m bored all the time 😂

dubyalass · 27/12/2020 18:01

Reduce how much plastic I use, and make better choices from an environmental POV in general. Where I live currently has shockingly bad plastic recycling and so I want to cut the amount of packaging etc that I'm throwing away. Walk more, cycle more, make sure house is as energy efficient as possible - that sort of thing.
