Does the strong wind frighten you?

I'm worried the big oak might crash down into the garden, or the roof might rip off. Doesn't help that I sleep in the loft extension, it sounds more dramatic up here. It's going to be a long night Sad

I hate it. I can cope with rains, snows, etc.

I think it's because you cant see wind only what it does to everything.

plominoagain · 26/12/2020 23:05

Not if I’m at home - the fens are almost always windy - but not a fan of driving in it at all. Not after seeing a very large tree fall onto someone’s 4x4 in front of me some years ago.

Chimeraforce · 26/12/2020 23:06

Yes. We have a long fence (not ours) in a shit state of repair which is flapping away 🙄

Chimeraforce · 26/12/2020 23:07

Plus new house building site with scaffold next door. Hope it's secure.

halfpasteleven · 26/12/2020 23:08

I don't mind it but tonight it isn't so much howling as almost bellowing if that makes sense?
A more sinister sound - makes me think it's angry for some reason.

I'm in bed and we are secure for the night in this house just hoping we sleep as it's v loud here right now

Mummylin · 26/12/2020 23:08

I love the sound of the wind, but I like all freak weather too. And beating rain I find soothing !

ISmellLikeRobin · 26/12/2020 23:10

We have rather dodgy double glazing. I'm convinced I'll be woken up one night by the wind ripping the entire window out... My worst worry is that it'll be one of the DC's bedroom windows & they'll be traumatised. It's probably, rationally, not a thing that's likely to happen but, still...

BackforGood · 26/12/2020 23:12

No, but it does make me appreciate I live in a proper, brick built house and am not trying to shelter in a doorway somewhere, or a refugee camp or other inadequate housing around the world

Thelnebriati · 26/12/2020 23:14

There are a lot of old slate roofs where I live and a risk of having something land on you, so I avoid walking around when there's a gale. I dont like the sound it makes either, its melancholy.

Honeyroar · 26/12/2020 23:16

Generally no, but since the Beast from the East a couple of years ago, which blew the roof off our stables and a cast iron soil pipe off the house, I’m a bit more nervy. We have a massive tree outside the house that would easily take half the house down if it fell.

yellowhighheels · 26/12/2020 23:21

I absolutely love it

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 26/12/2020 23:21

I love it .!!! .thing is I sleep with my window open so the bloody heavy curtain rattles on the pole all night and threatens to knock stuff off my dresser
Can’t sleep with The window closed I feel trapped ( childhood trauma )
The windier the better , obviously not to the point of roofs flying off and devastating homes etc just the odd upturned wheelie bin.

printedlace · 26/12/2020 23:22

I don't mind it too much actually, but I do have the odd worry about fence panels / the neighbours huge tree in their front garden!
Each time there is extreme weather, my heart really goes out to the homeless. I always feel so bad whilst tucked up in bed that they are likely enduring it outdoors.

Literallynoidea · 26/12/2020 23:22

No I love it

WunWun · 26/12/2020 23:22

I used to live at the top of a four storey house, and you could feel the house moving in strong wind!

It doesn't scare me though.

EggnogAndAMincepie · 26/12/2020 23:22

It only scares me when my OH is driving in it (HGV Driver) I worry that when his Truck is nigh on empty the wind will lift it and roll it. There's been a few occasions when he's felt the back end lift up off the ground during really windy weather. The irritating part to it is the constant screaming on the wind deflectors on the top of the Truck. We talk via Bluetooth and it's pretty much on par with nails down a chalkboard when that happens. Where I live we don't really get really strong winds although driving home one night from work my little Corsa was buffeted onto the other side of the road. Thankfully there wasn't anything coming the other way.

LovingCountryLife · 26/12/2020 23:23

I used to live on the 27th floor of an apartment block in Canary Wharf. The building was designed to 'move' a little bit in strong winds. Terrifying Confused

Now I live in a house in the middle of nowhere, I find the strong winds exhilarating, even though I'm surrounded by tall trees.

MadameBlobby · 26/12/2020 23:23

I hate wind, it’s so destructive:(

youngestisapsycho · 26/12/2020 23:23

Love it... I’ve just opened my bedroom window... curtains are flapping and the wind is sweeping through the room!

Clymene · 26/12/2020 23:25

Yes. It keeps me awake. I live at the top of a hill and have big trees outside the house on two sides. Always scary!

Gooseygoosey12345 · 26/12/2020 23:25

Nah. I used to live on the south coast of Ireland where the wind blew the gable off from our unfinished house while we were living in a mobile home so this wind is like child's play to me Grin

GigantosaurusRex · 26/12/2020 23:27

I hate it, anxiety is through the roof and it's bin night so we all know what state the street will be in tomorrow.

Icenii · 26/12/2020 23:29

Love it too. Stormy weather energises me. Window open so I can feel it.

icantfindmyshoes · 26/12/2020 23:30

Im petrified of it because of a camping holiday that went very wrong when I was a child

Avondklok · 26/12/2020 23:33

I love it, that and pouring rain, huge storms. That being said, we don't live somewhere subject to flooding, and I do cast a glance at the massive leylandi at the end of the garden. I feel so sorry for those with flooding this week.
