Where should I get a king-size mattress from?

Our mattress now has springs poking out and even though it served is well for 17 years, we need to buy a new one.
I'm hoping I can get a good deal in the sales. We like medium/ firm and I'm happy to explore all options (memory foam, springs etc). I'd love your recommendations.

We bought the Hypnos Premier Inn mattress.. so so so comfy. I can't take to memory foam so pocket sprung us best for me 🙂

Warren Evans - mine is bliss.

We bought a super king size Hypnos from JL, it was £3.5k but both DH and I think it’s worth every penny and I have never had a better nights sleep.

Warren Evans mattresses are so comfortable. Our last was from there, had it around 20 years, just bought a replacement this summer. It's their most expensive one (still affordable in your budget) and I sleep like a log.

The kids have Warren Evans mattresses too. You can try them for a number of nights, then return if you don't like it.

They have a sale on at the moment.

We recently slept on a John Lewis Essential mattress and both my husband and I thought it was the most comfortable mattress ever.

We've had 3 Sealy beds. All are hybrids, with pocket springs (the latest one had 2600 I think) and a geltex topping. They are so incredibly comfortable. We always buy from local independent bed shops. Great advice and really good service. Think the last one was around £1100. My first husband came from a family which owned an upmarket bed, carpet and furniture shop. He never skimped on any of those items and it was one of the very few good things to come out of the marriage Grin As a result, I wouldn't go for any mattress that arrives in a box. I want proper pocket springs. The current Mr Wandering is very tall and weighs a fair amount. The springs are so good that I can't tell when he gets out of the bed, my side stays perfectly still.

Spent about £550 on a John Lewis mattress about 6 years ago - mid range. Still really supportive and comfortable.

Following this thread with interest.
Coming into some money in the new year and looking to get a new bed - currently have a double wooden bed frame which is 25 years old, and am on our fourth mattress, which was a Poppy from Dreams - great in the store, but when they delivered it I could have cried - brick hard - it didn't soften up for a year. We currently have a Dormeo topper on it, which makes it more comfortable- but I fry on it.
Want to move up to a king size for comfort and security (as I rolled out of it on the 23rd December and fractured two ribs hitting the wooden bed frame)!

LegoAndLolDolls · 01/01/2021 02:41

Following too. I have been looking for a new one. Mine has a few springs gone now. Time to vote the bullet I guess

@RemarkableLemur I'm very tempted by the Warren Evans mattresses, especially as they have a sale on at the moment. Did you get one of their zip ones? Do you remember which one you got? I like their 40 day trial period

@Hellofayearsofar I bought the most expensive one, but when I bought one about 20 odd years ago, I think I bought their cheapest one, and both were good. The expensive one is amazing though! I bought a solid one, not zip and link, but wish I had bought zip and link as it's very heavy to turn when I need to turn it.

TheNationsFavourite · 30/01/2021 16:21

We were only saying yesterday how lovely our mattress is. Its about 6 years old, from John Lewis, firm-ish and was about £550 from memory. I think they are great value and their more expensive ones compare well with Vi-Sprung but much more competitive!

TheNationsFavourite · 30/01/2021 16:23

I like it so much I've just noticed that I already mentioned it upthread!!

Sorry, meant to say both of my mattresses are from John Ryan. Amazing in every way.

Usermn78 · 30/01/2021 17:40

I tried a million and went with an igel from Bensons for beds. It's amazing

CatalinaCasesolver · 30/01/2021 17:52

I absolutely LOVE my Ergoflex

MintyCedric · 30/01/2021 17:52

I have this from Bensons, customer service etc was absolutely fine, and it is the loveliest thing I have ever slept on. Dd has the same.

The couple of family members that have stayed over and used our beds on occasion have commented on it too.

We bought a Vi spring one about 2 years ago, cost quite a lot, and I hate it, it's medium but to me it's too soft. It was to replace our old hypnos one which was about 11 years old.
I'd recommend any Hypnos mattress, particularly the firm support ones.

BackforGood · 30/01/2021 18:09

Ooh. So glad to have found this thread.
We need to replace ours, and also need a new one for ds's bed.

As an aside - what do people do with their old mattresses ? They would be too big to get in the car to take to the tip ?
