Powder foundations being discontinued a help!

DK123 · 25/12/2020 14:12

Posting in chat for traffic!

I went online hoping there'd be some good offers as I need to replace a few makeup and toiletry items which have run out.

I was very disappointed to find that the Nars powder foundation is no longer. I'm pretty gutted because after years of struggling with acne, I had finally found the one product I could have completely blemish free face with!

I've realised that liquid or any non powder foundations don't work for me. I need the powder to stop my face being oily, but a bit more coverage than loose powder can give.

It looks as though a few of the others, including Bobbi Brown and possibly Illamasqua are being discontinued, with only a couple of random shades left in stock anywhere.

Can anyone recommend a suitable alternative powder foundation? Especially if you have acne and you've found one works well for not making it worse.

I'm very grateful to anyone who can give suggestions!

The Charlotte Tilbury powder is brilliant! Think it's airbrush something or other. Quite expensive but gorgeous coverage without looking like powder!

Clinique double facepowder is a powder foundation.

However I've just discovered Trinny London BFF cream and it's flippin awesome.

DK123 · 25/12/2020 14:26

Thank you @missrks @chocolatesaltyxmaspudballs can you tell me if either of you are very pale? I was partly so pleased with the Nars one because it didn't look at all orangey/like a grubby mark on me, which happens with a lot of foundations as I've got very translucent with hints of blue showing through kinds of tones!

Style and Beauty S&B is a great place to post for this type of stuff. It’s one of the busier sections so less likely to get lost.

AuntyFungal · 25/12/2020 14:33

I use Laura Geller in porcelain (palest option).

I’m super pale and pasty with red bits around my nose. Coverage is buildable.
I don’t use liquid foundation (haven’t for a long time) - it doesn’t ‘sit’ right on my skin.

You can find it on QVC - it has a (60 day I think) money back at the mo.

I use Loreal mineral powder foundation, although my shade is getting harder to find! They have good deals on Look Fantastic

Bare minerals powder foundation is great
If you have acne - it's non-comedogenic which is super important. I went to a demonologist and it was the only foundation they recommended. It made a real difference to my skin Vs liquid foundation.

peardrops1 · 25/12/2020 14:43

I love the Bare Minerals powder foundation. Especially great if you have combo or oily skin.

delilahbucket · 25/12/2020 14:47

I use Bare Minerals. I'm really pale and always break out after using liquid foundation. It's got great coverage and I use with the powder concealer and primer.

DK123 · 25/12/2020 14:53

Thank you for the recommendations! Does Bare Minerals give a reasonably thick coverage or do you think you can build it up well to be?

I like Lily Lolo mineral foundation, keeps the oiliness at bay. It's pretty reasonably priced too.

Sparklfairy · 25/12/2020 14:55

Yes you can build up bare minerals to the coverage you want. It's amazing!

kitschplease · 25/12/2020 14:55

Kiko!

DK123 · 25/12/2020 14:59

Thank you for all the suggestions! I'm starting to feel a bit more confident about finding a suitable replacement for the Nars!

I have very similar skin to you by the sounds of it OP, and like PP I use Laura Geller in porcelain. Best foundation I've ever owned.

Moon12345 · 25/12/2020 15:11

I used to work for Bare Minerals - the powder foundation is their original cult product and amazing. You can build up the coverage to suit your needs - the more you “buff” onto skin the more coverage it will give. Only 5 ingredients if I remember correctly and as the name suggests - all minerals. We used to have lots and lots of feedback about it really helping women with acne-prone or sensitive skin. 30/35 shades last time I checked as well, so hopefully you’ll find one for you Smile

pepperpod28 · 25/12/2020 15:17

OP it's on the more expensive side but Fenty have just launched a powder foundation. Not tried it but their shade range is excellent.

DK123 · 25/12/2020 15:19

@pepperpod28 thank you! When I can check the colours carefully in an actual shop, I'll have a look! I'm a bit worried about wasting money by buying online and ending up with the wrong colour for anything I buy.

DK123 · 25/12/2020 15:20

@Moon12345 do you know if it's just the loose powder in a pot one that's really good, or if people liked the pressed powder in a compact one too?

OP posts:
DK123 · 25/12/2020 15:20

@CaptainCallisto that sounds really good, thank you! I will look it up!

I love Lily Lolo and would second the recommendation for that.

Vebrithien · 25/12/2020 15:28

The Body Shop also do a pressed powder foundation, in a couple of very pale shades. Not expensive, so worth a try?

Bingowin · 25/12/2020 15:37

Mac Studio Fix powder foundation is great. You can build it up too.

bebarkered · 25/12/2020 15:49

My 1st choice is Mally Flawless Finish Transforming Effect Foundation. Goes on like a powder, but, it's not a powder. It's amazing! 2nd choice Laura Geller Balance & Brighten, also goes on like a powder but it's not a powder. 3rd choice Bare Minerals powder. The Mally has the highest coverage. IMO, Laura Geller Balance & Brighten needs a concealer under, as does Bare Minerals x

TottiePlantagenet · 25/12/2020 16:03

I second MAC's Studio Fix powder foundation.

Use this findation.com/ to find the MAC equivalent colour to NARS.
