It's a Christmas miracle!

My 5 y.o. & 3 y.o. Have been upstairs happily playing together now for 48 mins. I have managed to fold a load of washing and sit down and have a cup of tea in peace, with some realllly nice biscuits. Might try and sneak in an episode of masterchef. Ahhhhhh.

Perhaps you better check on them.

When mine did this years ago I thought how lovely it was that they were playing quietly, only to find that the 2yr old had taken the 4yr olds glasses and twisted them and broken the into 4 pieces 😂

Hope yours aren’t up to mischief 🎄🎅🏼

RosieLemonade · 23/12/2020 11:47

Same here. My DD who never ever plays alone has been happily playing all morning while I sort the house! Merry Christmas.

Sp1ke3 · 23/12/2020 11:49

Oh you poor innocent soul. You probably don’t have an upstairs anymore 🤣🤣

Belleende · 23/12/2020 11:52

Oh shit. I remember the last time this happened.

It's a Christmas miracle!

Is it too early for sherry?

Haha Grin, I am so happy for you and your folded washing OP, but yes last time I thought something like that, they’d given each other wonderful new haircuts that didn’t grow out for months...

SingingSands · 23/12/2020 11:56

That photo is brilliant OP 😂

It's Christmas, 2020. I'd ignore whatever they're up to and enjoy more biscuits!

Callybrid · 23/12/2020 11:56

As an aside - I considered beanbags for Xmas presents for the two in question - now a few years older - and am now heartily congratulating myself on deciding against that!

andawaywego · 23/12/2020 11:57

Last time my two were quiet they were playing with a tub of Sudocreme. Do you know how hard that is to get out of a carpet? The smell now fills me with a sense of dread.

DontWalkPastTheCastle · 23/12/2020 11:57

Don't put the tv on, that brings them running! They have tiny sensors that go off in their heads if you settle down.

I got 19 uninterrupted seconds of The Crown yesterday. 19.

Yes - I know how hard it is Grin And out of hair...

I also know how hard it is to get baby lotion out of carpets...
And paint...

I never left them alone for long - they were just really quick Grin

Beanbags are the devil's spawn. That happened just after we bought a shark vacuum cleaner on a mumsnet recommendation and it was and still is a piece of shit. I threatened to make them pick up the balls with chop sticks

FatGirlShrinking · 23/12/2020 12:16

Ah yes we've had the beanbag explosion. The answer is to hoover as much as you can, then wrap sticky tape wrong side out loosely around children's hands and set them loose on everywhere the hoover missed sticking up the rest of the balls. It takes them ages, during which time you can have a sit down to recover from their chaos.

JustanotherTuesday · 23/12/2020 12:28

When my oldest two were younger and playing quietly, the youngest one decided to take off his dirty nappy and they finger painted on the bedroom wall with the contents Shock I had just checked on them five minutes earlier.

Mine would sneak into the bathroom and ‘play’ with the taps, soap and shampoo

Shudder

YewandOak · 23/12/2020 12:40

I fond my eldest (now in her 30s) on the patio - eating a slug! Thought she'd gone too quiet! I was on the phone to the gp,panicking!

Phillipa12 · 23/12/2020 12:46

My 5 and 7 year old boys have been playing with a giant cardboard box for the last two hours.....admittedly there are no toys left in the playroom as they are all in said box with the boys but its quiet and I'm eating chocolate and making puddings.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 23/12/2020 12:47

Mine unwrapped the presents at her Grandmother's house. In the dark! She was 2.

Inastatus · 23/12/2020 12:50

Mine played hairdressers on the cat. It took ages for the big patch of fur to re-grow.

movingonup20 · 23/12/2020 12:55

The kids never did anything bad but the dog as a puppy unwrapped all his Christmas presents)but didn't eat them) go figure, he also once chewed the school shoes

That’s a great idea and one I will be using in future, I’m sure!

Sorry but hat actually made me laugh out loud, the poor cat! Our lot have invented a game that involves filling back packs, putting them on and walking repeatedly up and down stairs on an "adventure". It is perfect because: It doesn't involve me but I can see what they are doing It doesn't make a mess It is fairly quiet It is good exercise that will hopefully tire them out.

I have a lovely cup of tea Xmas Smile

Santaisironingwrappingpaper · 23/12/2020 13:03

Left ddx 2 and ds playing in dd's newly decorated room. I had decided it didn't need a enw carpet as most of the room was covered by furniture /toys /rug.
Ds decided a tin of white gloss on the carpet would add a final touch..
Had to re empty the whole room and buy carpet..

PearlescentIridescent · 23/12/2020 13:04

I had all 3 of mine (5, 3 and 11 months) pottering around earlier while doing washing and cleaning the oven, it is indeed a Christmas miracle! The under 1 was righ under my feet to be fair but at least he wasn't screaming Grin
