I feel in need of some hygge. And it seems so long ago when life was all about the cosy socks.

What hyggelig things will you do this Christmas.

After the year we have ahd I am thinking of baileys coffee every morning, but might manage to resist.

But, more seriously I am going for Boxing day walk and picnic at the beach.

Bring it on.

@pinbinpin

ooh how do I make Bailey's coffee? the creamy one? have Nespresso and Baileys.
I just use baileys instead of milk! (Actually, i have never done this before, but i have some chocolate Baileys and thought this was a good use of it).

I am Swedish so out of principle we don’t do hygge, in memory of the ancient feud between our nations. But I see I’ve been beaten to “mys”. Wink

Im always lighting candles and have fairy lights. Living in a 250+ yr old cottage it needs it. I’m not into bland grey and modern.

I'm obsessed with being hyggeligt and it's why I prefer the winter to the summer. My old cottage is a teenage girl's dream, twinkling fairy lights everywhere. I always have candles burning, even in the bathroom. A large faux bear skin throw on the sofa (large velvet L shape for comfort Smile ) loads of cushions and soft cosy fabrics everywhere. Large rustic mugs, crockery that doesn't match set on a heavy old oak table, cashmere loungewear (I love luxurious hoodies and sweatpants with thick socks), music has to be hyggeligt so at the moment I love listening to The Choir of King's College singing carols. I find old and / or pretty books really add to the hygge vibe. An open fire and two lazy dogs aren't obligatory but they are definitely advisable Smile

Cosiness is what I strive for every day!

SAD lamp
Heated throw
Oodie style giant hoodie
Hot chocolate
Candles
Cushions
Comfy slippers
Pyjamas or lounge wear
Cat purring on my lap
Low lighting

Emma Bridgewater crockery is really homely and comforting.

How does Hygge work in the spring/summer? I associate it with being autumn/winter lifestyle?
Yes you can be hygge in the summer, dining outside with pastel fairy lights and lit mason jars, bunting, etc...striped linen fabrics, candy coloured clothing, picnics with lovely crockery, watching the sunrise, flowers, things that make you happy...

@sheldonsgreenwithenvy I am a Dane so hygge is definitely not a craze - it is in my blood!

@banivani I extend to you a hand of peace and goodwill between the nations...Xmas Wink God Jul!

In autumn and winter hygge is vital to my health and well being. In December I ramp it up even more (or actually slow it down more would really be more accurate to say).

It’s about making time, more than once a day, to just be. To sit, find a moment’s peace, be good to yourself and appreciate everything that is right in the world. A little snack, a hot drink, a glass of something nice...

We light a daily candle to count down the days ‘til Christmas. We have many candles in the living room, which I light as soon as the darkness sets in. We have fairy lights on the staircase. On the Sundays in Advent we light the candles in the advent candleholder to count down the weeks to Christmas.

You can also add bailey’s to hot chocolate!

I got into it when I was decorating my house and bought a couple of books about. Apart from the furry throws and candles, I didn't much like the "look" but I have bought into the spirit of it and the "rituals".

I genuinely think it's helped my DH who is getting very bored and a bit antsy with lockdown etc although he has no idea it's going on!

I have fairy lights round my noticeboard at work and a little house with fairy lights in it above my desk at home.

@SilverLiningSearching Its camping and eating outside on warm nights. Going exploring and taking picnics! Going to the beach and staying until sunset, having (small, responsible!) campfires and toasting marshmallows. Spending time with people you love and really taking the time- not thinking about the million and one things for the next day or when you get home.
