Just that? I've got one present ready (photobook) but would like something else. No idea what though!

Delurking AJ, sorry just saw your post,
I got it from a local store but this is the same one. It is very bright but not expensive. It flashes on and off as well, I thought in case of emergencies but that does sound a bit patronising if you knew my Mum she is not 'old' in many ways.

DappledThings · 21/12/2020 23:37

Toilet twinning

CrustyChrimbo · 21/12/2020 23:42

I got DM (73) a Bluetooth wireless speaker so she can play music from her iPhone.

MIL (70) is in a care home with dementia so she's getting a fluffy throw, chocolates, hand cream and some magazines. And a photo frame with us in it.

MonkeyPuddle · 21/12/2020 23:45

Goldenbear · 21/12/2020 23:48

The Victoria Wood biography is a good idea - think I will get for my Dad who is very difficult to buy for.

Macarena1990 · 21/12/2020 23:52

I've bought my mum (71) fur lined dr martens!

MonkeyPuddle · 21/12/2020 23:53

Oh I had bought her a box of ferrero rocher but I’m currently eating them while 7wo DD refuses to go to sleep.

Love51 · 22/12/2020 00:05

My dad is getting a strange book that is like an escape room based on the Sherlock Holmes stories. Bit of a gamble. 2 years ago I took him to a gig which went down so well I thought I could do it every year. Last year I was going to but he was really ill (hospitalised) and this year, well, no gigs. I also bought him a t shirt I think he will like. Mil isn't 70, but she's a cook whose favourite author is Jane Austen. She's getting a recipe book for meals mentioned in the books. Also a gamble! Fil is getting a book chosen by DH. My own mum is getting a biography of women who changed the world - she's getting into biographies at the moment. We discussed my mum and what she is passionate about and it's the blummin grandchildren, so I've done my parents a photo calendar with pictures of all the grandkids (and her, my dad, their kids and partners are all in their too). That isn't a gamble at all, DH has done photo calendars for me the past couple of years and she has been very admiring!
In the past, mum, mil and step mil have had gloves and scarfs but they have a lot of kids each and they can't need many more scarfs! Tickets to theatre and concerts has worked well previously but this year ain't helping!

Champagneforeveryone · 22/12/2020 00:59

We bought DM a weighted blanket. She sleeps very poorly and I certain it will eventually have an impact on her health. Plus she didn't want anything so it made sense to buy something potentially useful.

Shame I had to dispatch her to Waitrose to collect her own present though Hmm

Nordman · 22/12/2020 01:46

A fire pit for their garden. So they can spend time with friends outdoors during lockdown but not freeze.

Bluesheep8 · 22/12/2020 07:18

I made them up 2 hampers, one sweet and one savoury, with all their favourite treats in.
Perfume and skincare stuff for mum
Aftershave and a book for Dad

DipSwimSwoosh · 22/12/2020 08:00

Magazine subscription
Make your own lampshade kit
Picnic rug

mrsfeatherbottom · 22/12/2020 08:21

@Macarena1990

I've bought my mum (71) fur lined dr martens!
Love this! My 13 yo got mint green DMs for her birthday and my mum (77) is so jealous and would love a pair!
mammmamia · 22/12/2020 09:02

Some great ideas here

I’ve got my mum a personalised apron and a photo calendar for them both (they love these and request one every year).

MIL - got her a string of salt crystal lights that I know she will like plus a mug with photos of scenery on it that DD took for her (she will love this).
FIL - a cookbook he wants.
Photo calendar for them both.

Aunt and uncle - have struggled for last min gift I can send through the post and finally decided on those charity mugs from John Lewis and some nice tea.

StCharlotte · 22/12/2020 09:05

MIL is 89. I've bought her some books (because she's running low having been stuck indoors for so long) and a subscription to the People's Friend which I asked her about first. I also suggested Playgirl but she declined.

I genuinely think there is nothing else we could get her for the garden. She is a keen gardener but over the years she's had it all.

We normally get her an indoor plant arrangement but logistics this year mean we can't get hold of one or get it to her.

mnahmnah · 22/12/2020 09:07

I have bought DM an echo dot, a fitness tracker, a calendar and some bamboo socks

sonjadog · 22/12/2020 09:36

A felted wool mat thing to put on her garden chair and keep warm, and a shopping bag with pictures of one of her favourite places on the outside,.

cheeseismydownfall · 22/12/2020 09:41

Three 3 month subscriptions for flowers, chocolates and books, for January, February and March when everything is just going to be cold and grim. So she will get nine things scattered across the three months when she will need a bit of cheering up.
