York. Beautiful place but I always get a really bad feeling there and am glad to leave

A camping site near lake Ullswater in Cumbia.
I couldn't breathe when there. Very oppressive and 'off'.

Also a small town in Northern England in the Pennines. Alston.
An air of depression that I couldn't wait to get away from and lifted as we drove away.

My dd had a meltdown on Dunwich beach, said it was the most horrible feeling ever. (we had to leave!)

My DS had a total freak out in Llangollen, said he didn't like the atmosphere. We were booked in to stay for a weekend... He was nervy and on edge the whole time...

Any part of Brighton in particular? (I live there and am trying to guess the creepy bits)

I'm not a fan of the beach at Cuckmere (near Beachy Head)

I haven't been for years so I'm probably being unfair! I do remember the lanes (is that right) as being really lovely...it was late 90s early 00s when last there. And at the time there was a big crustie/new age traveller/ ketamine scene... Anything to do with that just freaks me out. Partly due to my own history!! Similar here in Manchester with the free party scene of some years ago..

We went to Keswick for a break in August (before tiers and only 2 hours south from greater Manchester) and the locals were pretty stuffy and hostile. Put me off going back tbh, any UK based breaks will be peak District/Northumberland/Yorkshire based from now on...

I went mountain biking round the disused quarries in the town Royston Vasey was filmed in, I forget the name

It looked like a local town for local people

Round the back of big old hospitals, with boilers and incinerators and morgues and pipes and whatnot.

DS 1 gets spooked in Luton, inside the 30mph limit zone.

Zombies films and programmes. Just can't hack them.

Keswick feels like to me, too. I think it’s an air of “if you’re not spending money, fuck off” which you don’t tend to get elsewhere in the Lakes.

The basement of an office where I used to work. It made me feel so uncomfortable. The toilets were down there, so had to go down there. It creeped everyone out. I wonder if there was a source of infrasound down there.

Also the opposite of a creepy place - the town in which I live has a tiny gated graveyard with an old spiky tree that has a mistletoe bush growing on it. Always makes me happy when I go to look at it.

Glastonbury. The town and tor felt weird. The abbey ruins are beautiful but I could feel the history and the sadness.

I agree. There's parts of Brighton I can feel a bit creeped in.

I think seaside towns often get the kind of vibe.

Apparently as a baby I used to scream Woolwich Sainsbury's down every time my mum shopped there. Never any other shop.

Not had the pleasure for years to know if it still affects me.

More understandably the isolation cells at Auschwitz I had to leave immediately. Had the most awful sensation in there.

Bodmin jail.
Ds1 was the most placid baby and never cried. When we visited Bodmin jail while on holiday once he screamed and screamed until I took him out. I was glad to as it was giving me weird vibes.

Coming home from a three day conference late one night the SatNav directed me to drive down the A346 through Savernake. That gave me the creeps. I have never been there before or since and don't know the history of the area but it was definitely creepy. Something very dark there.

I get a creepy sick feeling about random people, the famous ones are Christopher Reeves, Oliver Reed and Michael Caine...they just give me the creeps for some odd reason.

I once went to an old workhouse as a parent helper on a school trip.
It was awful. The sadness was in the walls. Couldn’t wait to leave.
