I'm on the nay side.

I don't want one on my door because I'd be worried about rain getting in and creating damp. I also don't want to waste the fabric!

I don't think anything about those who do have them though.

Scr00gy · 20/12/2020 12:36

I thought they were supposed to be some kind of crucifix? Anyway, not a fan personally. Although I did see a red velvet off-centre one the other day which looked more like a bow and present. Maybe it's the material I don't like so much?

TheHamsterCatcher · 20/12/2020 12:38

@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants Yeah, low letterboxes are really annoying, not only from the point of view of causing back problems for posties, but they're more difficult to post through without damaging the letters/parcels.
A box in the middle might not look as good but they really are better for everyone!

The village pub has one and I think it looks quite pretty. It is a very lovely old building and it’s a smaller one than in the picture so it fits quite well, I think. We’ve stuck with a wreath on ours although it’s looking a bit tatty - I had planned to go to the wreath making workshop that the PTA runs this year, but it was a victim of 2020. Next year.

waltzingparrot · 20/12/2020 12:46

I drove through Ilford last year and all the shops had them. They all looked a bit grubby (presumably from car exhausts) and it was raining so they all looked a bit sad.

@WorraLiberty

Actually I'm up for anyone trying to spread a bit of Christmas cheer to people walking down the street.

This thread is a bit mean, as there'll no doubt be Mumsnetters who have these on their doors.

It's not fucking mean. Just a poll, wondering if I'm in the minority.

Calm down tinsel tits 🤣

I'm not keen on them either but some of the mean comments here are quite predictable.

namesnamesnamesnames · 20/12/2020 13:05

I really don't like them. Sorry.

Camomila · 20/12/2020 13:10

My parents neighbours have a gray one, my dad (foreign) thought someone had died!

So get a green or red one I'd say, though I think wreaths are much nicer personally.

shitinmyhandsandclap · 20/12/2020 13:17

Hideously tacky in my opinion, been around a few years here. Started off small and weren't too bad but now they're massive and OTT

Monkeypeas · 20/12/2020 13:24

I make them and install them (for want ifa better word) so I say yes and 🖕🏻To the op 😄

What shall we critique next?

Lights?! What is deemed tasteful to you, warm white only, bright white, multi coloured, blue, blue and white, flashing, static?

TokyoSushi · 20/12/2020 13:29

I have one and I'm proud! I have had lots of comments on how lovely it is, so there! 😂

Biggest laugh since I logged on.Grin
Orcadianrythyms · 20/12/2020 13:38

Nay, nay and thrice nay.

Runnerduck34 · 20/12/2020 13:41

Nay

rollinggreenhills · 20/12/2020 13:44

I've only clapped eyes on one in the whole area, and that was on the entrance door of a double glazing showroom.

Fizbosshoes · 20/12/2020 13:44

I'm not especially keen on that look but there must be a demand for it somewhere.
My first instincts are (when I have seen one IRL) it obscures the letter box so awkward for anyone delivering stuff...and also if you have no canopy or porch would they get all soggy and bedraggled if it was wet?

Witchend · 20/12/2020 13:48

What's next? Wrap your car up for Christmas.

Actually that might be quite funny...

Madbengalmum · 20/12/2020 14:00

No, maximum tack.

SilverOtter · 20/12/2020 14:00

I vote nay!

BearSoFair · 20/12/2020 14:03

I don't mind them, a few houses locally have them (first time I've seen them round here) but not sure it'd work with our crappy PVC door! Hadn't thought about how they block posties access either.

Gonkytonk · 20/12/2020 14:09

My friend makes a decent profit every Xmas doing these. I don’t have one on the front door but do have one on DD’s bedroom door to cheer her up. It’s like a grotto entrance Xmas Grin

Sgtmajormummy · 20/12/2020 14:16

I’ve regularly made one for our apartment door (so not exposed to the elements) our of that shiny metallic plastic gift wrap. Two strips horizontal and vertical and a 3D bow with artfully placed rings of sellotape. Maybe a large gift tag.

Cheap and effective.

MaddieElla · 20/12/2020 14:31

Nope. I did like them but every man and his dog has one now.

My wreath, however, is a thing of beauty.

52andblue · 20/12/2020 14:36

Not keen on red ones (makes me think of plague crosses).
Mind you, wreathes are funereal too, according to a recent thread.
Meh, each to their own. Not for me though.
