That's harsh for people working Christmas Day

Sad

Although we're now Tier 4 so it won't matter here.

I wonder how many will actually change their plans. As it happens, my plan had always been to spend 2 weeks on the sofa with occasional walks Grin

Yes. Or for those who would have to travel a long way to see family. I imagine the roads will be busy Christmas Day

Akire · 19/12/2020 16:44

They are saying stay local so I imagine frowned upon take long journeys even if this will be to met up with one other household for the day. Plus it’s one day so you would have to travel there and back on the day it self which limits it again.

ChristmasTreeFairy5000 · 19/12/2020 16:46

Yup. We have family members working Xmas day. We're due to meet up on Boxing day. Will still be happening.

missyB1 · 19/12/2020 16:48

Yes Dh is NHS, working Christmas Day. We were due to visit our best friends on Boxing Day- not happening now obviously. They are also NHS. It’s shit Sad

ChristmasUserName2020 · 19/12/2020 17:00

It’s people like you that spread it @ChristmasTreeFairy5000

ValancyRedfern · 19/12/2020 17:03

Because the power of Boris means the virus doesn't spread on Christmas Day?!? Seeing her family on Boxing Day will be no worse than seeing them on Christmas Day.

Why do you say that? If mixing Christmas Day is ok, then why is covid more likely to spread if they mix Boxing Day only instead?
GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 19/12/2020 17:07

@missyB1 this is our dilemma, DB was coming for a few hours Christmas Eve.
We won’t be mixing at all apart from that.
Why is it ok to mix Christmas Day but not Christmas Eve? Sad

Bunnybigears · 19/12/2020 17:12

Covid doesn't know what day it is, surely they would have been better saying you can mix for 1 day, you pick which one.

nosswith · 19/12/2020 17:21

There will be retail staff having Boxing day off for once, possibly the only good thing I can take out of this.

ceeveebee · 19/12/2020 17:23

We have two children self isolating until Christmas Day due to a contact at school. We are having our Christmas day on Boxing Day. And we still will be, and we will be very low risk by then having been at home for 10 days.
They should have said “one day out of the 5 days”. Totally unfair on people who have to work Christmas Day.

Bollocks. Boxing Day is no more risky than Christmas Day
Kez0777 · 19/12/2020 17:27

We were meeting our Christmas bubble on the 23rd. I can't see what difference the 23rd or 25th makes to the virus 😔

It makes none at all. Such a shame they didn’t just say you can pick one of those 5 days instead of being so prescriptive of the 25th
Kez0777 · 19/12/2020 17:29

@Muddybuddy
That would have been too sensible for them to come up with that! People are going to break the rules because it makes absolutely no sense what so ever!

Plussizejumpsuit · 19/12/2020 17:29

Yeah I do feel for these people. Especially as they're basically in essetial roles. So it's a big thanks eh?!

We should have a summer do over of Christmas!

Diddlysquatty · 19/12/2020 17:31

Yes come on @ChristmasUserName2020 use your brain!
As long as none of those involved are seeing someone else on xmas day it makes no difference at all to the risk

Muddybuddy · 19/12/2020 17:31

Yep. It’s a complete farce really. All those people who are working on Christmas Day or could only meet family on Boxing Day are screwed now if they want to follow the rules, and all for a rule that makes no sense

goose1964 · 19/12/2020 17:32

DD is working(carer) Christmas eve and boxing day, neither of them, or us, drive so we were going to meet up on 27th for a day.Looks like that's out.

Exactly!! Its people like you @ChristmasUserName2020 that spread animosity and general rubbish!

ChristmasSomething · 19/12/2020 17:35

Also working here, wtf can’t they just say only 1 day is allowed of the Christmas 5 days instead?!
We were planning 27th.

theliverpoolone · 19/12/2020 17:37

It's also harsh on people who dont drive and would have been visiting someone on one of the other days, as there's no public transport on Christmas Day.

Countrygirl38 · 19/12/2020 17:38

I am working Christmas Day and all the other important days over Christmas and New Year. The only day I could go and see my parents has now had to be cancelled.

So it’s safe on Christmas day but you’ll spread it on Boxing Day 😂😂

Which I'm sure they will have been aware of as one way to reduce household mixing.
